  1. If your neck is swollen a good test would be an ultrasound to locate the swelling. The swelling could be in the thyroid or something else perhaps.
  2. I take a calcium pill. There is calcium in some veggies also. Wiki has a list of them.
  3. That's real nice that they made a sub forum there Dave. I haven't done much in the way of pizza since going gluten-free a couple years ago. I might try it sometime if I can figure out a dairy free, soy free, tomato free, carrot free version. There are some threads on gluten-free pizza here also. Maybe a good way to spark some interest would be linking...

    ARCHIVED Help

Hey Judy, You are pretty new to gluten free. It can take some time to learn how to eat again, and to take care of yourself. Many people find a simple whole foods diet the best way to start. Bascic foods that you cook from scratch are good. Avoiding processed foods can help to eliminate hidden gluten ingredients and also lots of preservatives, food...
  5. It is certainly possible to have other intolerances besides gluten. The obvious question, if the headaches just started last week, has she changed her diet and added some trigger without realizing it? Maybe a new medication or vitamin pill? She also could have a virus or something like that. Soy and dairy are among the top allergens for the US. So they...
  6. Hi Swiummr, You certainly are having an interesting start to the year! That makes sense that an ear problem could cause nervousness or panicky feelings. I find feeling off balance very unsettling myself. I read something not long a ago where they said there are little grains in the inner ear that help somehow with motion detection/balance. They were...
  7. I add psyllium husks to my food. It can be added to about anything I think.
  8. You can get a genetic test done but it doesn't prove that you have celiac. Many people have the celiac genes but don't have the disease (autoimmune reaction) The reaction to the diet seems pretty clear though.
  9. Some people don't have GI symptoms at all. I think they call that latent or silent celiac. Then there's the people that get GI symptoms and often other symptoms too. I am one of them. Anyhow, you sound like a person who is going to have GI symptoms. When I first went gluten-free I thot it strange that people talked about crumbs and so on. But after...
  10. My guess is you are fairly new to the gluten-free diet. There's a heap a things to learn when you get started. I live alone except for Muffin the cat-head. But she is very picky and will only eat her certain foods and nothing else. So Friskie's Seafood Sensation it is gluten filled or not. She isn't about to adjust for me. She might attack my toes a...
  11. You know, one thing I think about, if I wasn't like this I might be like something else and it might not be a better something else. Celiac can be tough for sure, but at least we have a chance to get better with proper diet. After you have been at it a while the diet will probably seem easier to follow. At least it is for me after a little more than 2...

    ARCHIVED Ihop

I actually did something similar before gluten-free. I used to make omelets with Bisquick mix in them. It does make them fluff up more. I went to an IHOP a while back and asked the waiter if he had any gluten-free panckakes or waffles. He checked in the kitchen and came back and said "all their pancakes are gluten free"! Wow, very impressive. Totoally...

I had one with contrast. For me the contrast injection felt like a very warm wash over my body. Sort of like taking a strong shot of whiskey. Jsu twanted to mention it sa something else you might encoiunter. It wasn't a bad feeling at all, just warm. Kind of nice in a way.
  14. Hi Cgalley, Maybe an elimination diet would work for you. There are threads here that explain them. But basically you start with a few foods and then slowly add other foods to your diet. That way you can track when you start getting symptoms after a new food is introduced.

    ARCHIVED Being Obese

It could be you have healed and are absorbing more nutrients /calories than before going gluten-free. So you could have weight gain from that aspect also. some people suggest the body can go into hording mode when certain nutrients are lacking also.
  16. Happy New Year all you silliesacs! Phairilly chillie for some of yuse folks out there. We are struggling with the mid 30's here in DC today. Almost an inch of snow pummeled us just the other day too. Almost couldn't see the sidewalk in a few places where the drifts piled up. The birds don't like all this snow, but Muffin-cat won't even go outdoors...
  17. Hi-ya Swimmr, Still at eh? That's good. I eliminated mayo from my diet a few weeks ago. Darn stuff almost always has soy in it. I am sleeping better since then. There is a Hellman's chlolesterol free version that is soy free, but all their other kind's have soy oil. Even the olive oil and canola oil versions have soy. I made some peanut butter...
  18. Well you are just strange then aren't cha? Kidding. I have recently stopped using mayo, due to the soy in it. And I am now able to sleep sort of like a nurmal person. I slept for about 7 hours for 2 nights in a row and then got 3 hours last night. Altogether I consider that a great improvement. I don't know if it will keep up like that yet, but...
  19. Sauerkraut works for me. Psyllium husks are good, I put a little in my food. Like tonight I made some peanut butter cookies and put a teaspoon of pysillum husks in them. Flax seed meal is good too. Soy is a bad thing, best to avoid that stuff for sure.
  20. I feed Muffin the cat-head Friskies Seafood sensations, definitely gluten filled. But I use an old tin can to get the food out of the bag, and I always wash my hands right after getting her food out.
  21. You can do damage without feeling it. There are some people who have silent celiac and don't have obvious symptoms. But they still have damage going on.
  22. Sounds like a smart doctor there! He is right, if you eat it and it bothers you don't eat it. You might want to ask him to check your vitmain levels too, malabsorption can cause us to below on some of them. B, D K, and iron too for example.
  23. You could have other food intolerances also. Carrots are bad for me, and soy, and dairy. Some people have problems with nightshades, or eggs etc. Vitamin pills are a possible source of gluten, salad dressings, really about any processed food could have gluten added. Then there is cross contamination to think about, at a food manufacturer or in your...
  24. Here is a list of the to 8 food allergens in the US. You have most of these in your avoid list already, so you are ahead of the game there. Open Original Shared Link Milk Eggs Peanuts Tree nuts (such as almonds, cashews, walnuts) Fish (such as bass, cod, flounder) Shellfish (such as crab, lobster, shrimp) Soy Wheat
  25. I suggest you try some peppermint tea. It helps get the burps out. Also avoid any sugar for a while.
