  1. Hi Tigercat, I suggest you consider an elimination diet. You may have other food intolerances besides gluten and you will need to identify those if present. I had left side pain for years before going gluten-free, and then it slowly went away. Later I discovered I had problems with carrots, and coffee and tea, and then recently garbanzo beans. Dairy...
  2. Plain old water is a good alternative if you ask me.
  3. I had these for TG and had a reaction to them. Not sure it was gluten but something in them didn't sit right. Could just be I am not used to eating this kind of thing now, been a long time since I did.
  4. Hi Dan, I agree it is somewhat frustrating the amount of inertia the medical profession seems to have regarding celiac diagnosis. I think it may be improving some lately, but there is a long way to go on it. What seems really odd about it is that celaic is one of the easiest problems to deal with medically as far as making an improvement in people's...
  5. I think you mean Swimmrr? Swimmr has been doing the elim diet for a while now. I have done them also and they really helped me with finding problem foods.
  6. The Angus seasoning may not contain wheat now, but what about all the other foods they cook on the same grill? Looking at the nutrition info linked, there are quite a few foods that have wheat and could be cooked on the same grill surface. Flipped with the same spatula, maybe put on a wheat bun with the same spatula? I wouldn't eat there.
  7. I have read that about a third of the USA population has some of the genes for celiac. But only about 1% will actually develop celiac disease. Quite a discrepancy there so it seems they don't really know why some people develop the active disease but most don't. There is a video on the NFCA by a Mayo clinic doctor who says the rate celiac appears to...
  8. Maybe some milk of magnesia will get things moving again. Pepto Bismol can help with pain. I take DPP-4 also. Bananas and rice for low irritation foods.
  9. Sounds like a great TG Swimmr. Too much pie eh? What can you do with those darn mom's always making too much pie? You'd think they'd learn after a few decades. Silly willies! Probiotics sound like a good idea after the antibiotics regime. Maybe some extra fiber too like some psyilium or flax meal. I think the antibiotics can do quite a number...
  10. No big disaster for me. Muffin the meowser got some extra kitty treats. I made some Betty Crocker gluten-free brownies with walnuts and peanut butter, and a little flax seed meal and psyillium husks added for fiber. I had eaten some sunflower seeds I had in the fridge for a few months in the morning. Had a little reaction from those and didn't really...
  11. Hi Elle's Mom, You may have other intolerances besides gluten. You could try an elimination diet to find them. If you do make sure you eliminate your vitamins and meds as well. Also coffee, tea soda, and anything else you consume is suspect. Sometimes it ends up being a bit of a food detective work to find the problem. Another thing that helps is...
  12. Hi Miki-chan, I am a bit older than you but I hope you don't mind me chiming in. I am only half a century so not that big a difference right? I hang around here and read quite a bit. One thing that might be interesting to you is that several people have reported their other autoimmune disease symptoms were reduced after following the gluten free...
  13. There are some (12) Zpizza's in Virginia, but they are mostly around DC.. Zpizza has gluten-free and vegan cheese also. I did try theirs once quite a while ago. They put the pizza on an aluminum foil liner to keep it from getting cc'd on the oven rack. So the paddle never touchs the pizza, just the aluminum. Their's are more expensive than the regular...
  14. You can find various lists of associated autoimmune diseases by searching on "celiac associated condition" or "celiac related condition" You will find the lists of related illnesses does vary somewhat by site. This is a brief snippet from Columbia's celiac disease center info. Open Original Shared Link Autoimmune disorders Autoimmune...
  15. Hang around here and read, read, read! You can learn an awful lot about the gluten-free diet right here on this forum. What you need to do is get on the diet and heal your gut. Once your gut heals your ability to absorb nutrients/vitamins should improve. Some people get shots for vitamins at the beginning, since the malabsorption can keep you from getting...
  16. For a while I had episodes where I would start to fall over sitting at my computer. I would be working and suddenly catch myself falling over/blacking out. Later these got less severe and I would notice kind of a rushing noise in my ears and feel sort of weak. I think this was caused by periodic low blood pressure but not sure. Doctors didn't find anything...
  17. OK, I totally missed that you had the blood tests already. There are 4 or 5 different antibodies they can test. If you can get your test results and the reference ranges for each test and post them here, someone smarter than me will probably be able to tell you what they mean. They do say that celiac is sometimes triggered by stress. I think they say...
  18. Hi, I am a little confused about why they put you prednisone for a viral infection? Prednisone is an immune system inhibitor, so it seems like they wouldn't use that for a virus. They do use it for Crohn's sometimes, and other autoimmune diesases. I think you said your aunt has celiac right? That would mean the genes are presnt in at least some of...
  19. I eat the Chex and haven't had a problem. I am pretty darn sensitive to gluten too. It will be interesting to see how they respond to the off color Chex question. We have had threads before where people have discussed the transport of grains from the field to the grain silos. Then via truck to the manufacturer. If the same trucks are used and the same...
  20. Throwing up blood doesn't sound real normal to me. I think I ssw that in the Exorcist movie. Could be an ulcer? Probably ought to see a doc about it. If it is H pylori I think they have drugs for that now.
  21. Have you changed anything in your diet or vitamins/meds? I think the answer is yes from your posts. I made the mistake of getting a new multivitamin that was wheat, dairy, soy, yeast free from Vitamin Shoppee. I didn't read the ingredients close enough and after a while started getting various symptoms. I finally realized the ingredients included oat...
  22. Gotta laugh about the armpits problem Swimmr. I wouldn't worry about that too much unless hubby starts crying when he smells them. Just kidding! That's no fun at all. The neck I mean. I am getting over some back strain myself that has been bothering me a while. This stuff makes life interesting doesn't it? I don't do carrots anymore either...
  23. [i see you are pretty new to the site here. One of the things that is often reccoememnded is to do a simple whole foods diet. Avoiding processed foods will save you time reading labels and trying to feret out hidden gluten ingredients. I think it might be good for you to make your whole family gluten free, at least temporarily for about 6 months or so...
  24. Hi Sarah, I just signed your online petition to get Betty Crocker cake mixes sold in Canada. I am not in Canada myself, but I hope that isn't a problem. I did come real close to going there once though. :-) Us celiacs needs to stick together and support each other though so I am happy to sign it. I think you might get more response if you...
  25. I agree with Ravenwood on the challenge after being gluten-free. You will probably know by that time yourself without doing any challenge. I do wonder if you were having a dairy reaction though from the milkshake? It is common for celiacs to be lactose intolerant until our intestines heal. Just a thot.
