That's interesting that your doc thinks the rosecea might react to foods. Congrats on getting a diagnosis. It's nice to have a name for things we experience.

How many years have you been trying to live a gluten-free life? Coming up on 2 years How often or many times do you think you've been hit with wheat? Lots of gluten, although I don't mean just wheat. Some vitamin pills got me with oat grass in them for a while. Various other CC issues usually when trying something new and quickly wishing I hadn't....

ARCHIVED Lactose Test? Absorption Vs. Genetic Marking Test
GFinDC replied to pufffee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can't give you much info, I never did an official doctor test for lactose intolerance. I think I read about a test called a hydrogen breath test a while back. I have plenty of symptoms of lactose intolerance, so I don't need a doctor to tell me about it. It's not like there is anything they can do about it after all. You might also have casein intolerance... -
ARCHIVED Another Newbie... Wondering!
GFinDC replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, You could have celiac, or something else. Your doctor can draw a little blood and have it sent to a lab for the celiac test panel. It's important to keep eating gluten prior to the blood draw though. If you are already on a low gluten or no gluten diet when the blood is drawn the tests are more likely to be inaccurate. Usually what I see recommended... -
ARCHIVED Your Fisrt Gluten After Being So Careful
GFinDC replied to tmbarke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nope, I don't have Hashimoto's at least that I know. I do have a thyroid cyst and a couple thyroid nodules though. There are several people around the board with Hashi's. They say Hashi's can cause your thyroid levels to swing back and forth between too low and too high. I am just a little hypo from thyroid problems. A little goes a long way with the... -
ARCHIVED Raw Apple Cider Vinegar Helps!
GFinDC replied to cvll's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't do the vinegar by itself but I do put lemon juice in my food often. Lemon juice goes well in rice dishes and with vegetables. I figure they are both acidic so why not? Vinegar can be used in foods also. Rice vinegar is nice. I don't know of any reason you would get more benefit by taking it (vinegar or lemon juice) separately from your food,... -
ARCHIVED Craving A Candy Bar!
GFinDC replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I sometimes get Goya chocolate bars at the local Giant food store. They are dairy free but they do have soy lecithin in them. Ingredients are sugar, chocolate liquor, vanillin, soy lecithin, salt. They come in a large bar with a bright yellow paper wrapper. I couldn't find an exact product page link for them. Goya suggests using them for hot chocolate... -
ARCHIVED Being Very Careful, But Still Feel Like I Got Glutened!
GFinDC replied to haleym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The peanut M+M's probably have dairy in them, if that bothers you. It bothers me. Not that the you eat them, but the dairy bothers me. :-) Many of us celiac types have problems with dairy. I know I have a dairy reaction that gets worse if I eat it for a few days running. Natural flavors scare me. There is a list of companies that will disclose... -
ARCHIVED Your Fisrt Gluten After Being So Careful
GFinDC replied to tmbarke's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I wonder if you have considered Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Hashi's is an autoimmune reaction against the thyroid that people with celiac sometimes get. The effect can alternate between hyperthyroid and hypothyroid symptoms. Swelling in the throat could be a symptom of Hashi's is why I ask. Plus feeling hyper could be another possible link. Anyhow, it's... -

Hi Jason, Have your doctors checked you for Chrohn's Disease? It might be worth asking them about it if they haven't. -
ARCHIVED What Are The Best Prepared Foods And Where Can You Get Them
GFinDC replied to KathyBHI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like the glutino fiber bread best. It's usually kept in the freezer at WF. I don't do pasta often but I do like the Tinkyada for that. Van's waffles are probably good for sandwiches adn also Mission corn tortillas. The corn tortillas are much softer and easier to roll up if you pre-heat them just a little. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerant Dh Thinking Of Going Back To Gluten
GFinDC replied to halfrunner's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Does he keep a food journal? It might help him see what affects his diet has on him if he writes down what he was eating each day and how he felt, or onay issues he had health wise. It wouldn't be bad idea to start a journal now while he is on the sauce and then if he did another gluten-free test he could compare. Hmmm, maybe you could keep a journal... -
I have found eating a lot of sauerkraut helps with C. If you just eat a whole can of it without rinsing it off first. It is probably all the salt that does the trick. They say it has lots of good bacteria in it also, but I usually cook it so that isn't the reason it helps me.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Bread
GFinDC replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Aura, you might be thinking about the Glutino Harvest Corn bread? It's in a yellow bag and reminds me of white bread. I prefer the Glutino flax and fiber breads myself. Got more chew to them. They have them in my local Whole Foods in the freezer. If you like bread with texture it's good stuff. It's a bigger loaf than the other breads I've tried also... -
Hi Dermotron, I have been lactose intolerant for, oh say 14 years now. I started taking calcium pills a few years back. I take a cal-mag-zinc pill one day and a cal-mag-D pill the next day, in alteration. I do miss days here and there, but generally try to keep on them. I am in kind of a sweet spot right now as of the last week and a half, been sleeping...

ARCHIVED Lactose Free How Long Before I Feel Better?
GFinDC replied to pufffee's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I suggest you stay off dairy for at least a month. You would need to read labels and avoid things with casein, lactose, whey and milk. The reason I say a month is that when you make a big change in your diet, your gut basteria adjust to the changed food supply. Which can cause symptoms in itself. This is just my opinion though. Watch out for meds and... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Or Non-allergic Pasta Intolerance?
GFinDC replied to ExPastaQueen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the site exPastaQueen. Talking to your doc is good advice Pastaqueen. You might want to try a search on this forum for gastroparesis also. There are several people here who have had that condition. Actually there are a whole host of related conditions to celiac disease. One of them is an autoimmune diesease of the stomach lining, although... -
Hi Deb, I don't have any personal experience with the bed bugs, but when I had a woofie dog I looked up ways to kill fleas. One thing I found was some websites that say diatomaceous earth can work. The site I read said to sprinkle it in your carpet (for fleas). Some of the sites say it works for bed bugs also. It is supposed to be bad for bugs but...

I am sorry to hear your trip wasn't great Jason. Other people with celiac seem to be able to travel, although some us do run into problems also. It's always harder when you don't speak the language. Now that you are back home you can get back in gear though, get back on track, and get to feeling better. I hope you feel better soon! Did you get to...

ARCHIVED Please Help!
GFinDC replied to arkoflove's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Ark, Sounds like it could be an allergic reaction to the soy. I am not sure if you would react in your gut also. I think if you are having a negative reaction of any kind to a food it is probably a bad idea to continue eating it. It seems to me the reactions tend to get stronger with further exposure. Soy is a risky thing for us IMHO. -
ARCHIVED Bleeding From The Behind ?
GFinDC replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for the input Jo-ann and Tiffany. I suppose this might not be a common thing for celiacs then. I was thinking it was kind of a normal reaction of a celiac. When I saw Dr. Fassano (just one time), and told him about bleeding and black stool pre-gluten-free, ( black stool being another sign of bleeding), he didn't seem surprised by it. The stuff... -
ARCHIVED Bleeding From The Behind ?
GFinDC replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
In my case yes, I do get bleeding sometimes, if I have a glutening incident anyway. Also sometimes little patches of almost transparent paper thin tissue show up in the bowl. I think that is the villous lining of the intestines coming out. Sort of like a thin layer of skin. Far as I know I don't have Chrohn's although one of my younger brother's did have... -
well, welcome to the celiac world! I see you have Hashimoto's thyroidits? That should be a tip off to your doctor to test you for celiac anyway. Hashimoto's is one the associated conditions with celiac. There are other associated autoimmune conditions too. Which just means that people with celiac, an autoimmune disease, sometimes develop other autoimmune...

ARCHIVED Morning Fatigue And Fog How Do You Cope?
GFinDC replied to cyoshimit's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have any great solutions for you. I have had trouble sleeping for years and am just starting to feel like I am getting over it some. I try to eat a little protein in the morning also. Sometimes just a boiled egg with salt sprinkled on it. I also quit drinking coffee and tea some month ago. I was bouncing back and forth between being alert and... -
ARCHIVED "organic Barley Grass"
GFinDC replied to elle's mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I made the mistake of taking a multi-vitamin with oat straw or oat grass, something like that in it. The pills didn't bother me noticeably at first, but seemed to build up to a stronger reaction over time. Not good stuff. I figure it was a very small amount of gluten, and oat gluten which didn't use to bother me. But it did get the better of me when taken...
