  1. I'd suspect the tomato sauce. I don't eat tomatoes much myself. But a few times recently I bought some Nature's Promise brand tomato sauce and had a reaction both times I used it. There is nothing in the ingredients that should be a problem, but I reacted anyway. I thought I might be growing intolerant to tomatoes, so I bought some whole tomatoes and...
  2. Yes, you can have celiac and not have GI symptoms. They call it silent celiac. Silent doesn't mean that your body isn't being damaged by celiac, just that you don't notice obvious GI symptoms.
  3. You might try eliminating sugar and sugary foods for a while also. Many fruits have lots of sugar and could cause gas because of that.
  4. Raw carrots and peanut butter, or raw celery and peanut butter. There you go cured! Sometimes the carrots do taste better peeled though, if there is lots of dirt on them still. Veggies are good for you, just eat them! Boy that was easy straightened her right out! :-) How about stew? You can make stew in a pressure cooker pretty quick. I like to...
  5. I think I have stayed about the same, but I am less swelled up and puffy so it may be a little weight loss actually. My face, ankles, feet used to be swelled up before gluten-free.
  6. Great, sounds like it will be a good meeting!
  7. I sometimes make gaucamole and salmon. 2 or 3 large avacadoes couple tabelspoons of mayo lemon juice salt pepper 1 can of salmon minus the skin and bones Maybe some chopped onion or olives way too much garlic powder Stir but don't overdo the mixing. It's good to have some avacdoe chunks Tostitos chips to eat it
  8. Well you got me, what the hay is that supposed to be? Here is pdf slide show that talks about some of it. May be helpful to you. The way I read it, the reactive gastritis is damage of some sort caused by chemical action, drugs, medicines, acid, hard partying, autoimmune disease, etc. The GERD is just that, and one site I saw says it is very common...
  9. Well you sound to have some of the common GI problems. Lactose intolerance can cause gas, the big D and C, and bloating, pain discomfort, less ice cream enjoyment etc... So it could just be that, or since lactose intolerance often goes with celiac, it could be that also, or both. Psoriasis seems to be somewhat common with celiac as well. And of course...
  10. Coulds be, yes it coulds be non-tropical sprue, or celiac. If it is that's not so bad news really. Celiac is certainly something you can adjust to living with, although it may take some time. I hope you get a sold test results either way. Unfortunately, some of the blood tests are not 100% on the negative results. Positive results are more a sure thing...
  11. Ok, that is interesting. I kind of had the impression the Enterolab testing was apt to show more intolerances also. I don't think I have seen many people post about negative results, but maybe that is because they just don't post about them, or I miss the posts... I never did the hydrogen breath test myself, but I didn't really need to. Anytime...
  12. Yeah, definitely don't give up. Many of us have gone years looking for a diagnosis. There have been a few people posting about gallbladder problems, that cause them a lot of pain. Maybe try a search on gallbladder? I seem to remember people saying they had intermittent pain with it.
  13. Hi, Celiacs have lots of different symptoms and reactions. So one person can react totally different from another person. We are not all the same. It seems unusual for the symptoms to only occur once a year. You could ask your doctor to do the blood antibody tests. It sounds to me like a gastroenterologist might be good person to talk to about...
  14. If you had soy sauce that came with the Chinese food it probably had gluten in it. Soy is not so good for people, so not a bad idea to avoid it, IMHO.
  15. Hi Fritz, Yes, it does seem complicated at first. That's why it is helpful to simplify your diet to begin. Eating foods you cook yourself at home from whole ingredients, like potatoes, rice, peas, beans, carrots etc, with some chicken or other meat. Not eating pre-packaged meals and boxed foods can save a lot of time on reading ingredients lists. Whole...
  16. Hi Fritz, Do I have to worry that my gelatin capsules might have glutin in them? You need to check the ingredients on medicines. Probably your gelatin capsules are ok, but this is a general statement and is only good for generalities. In your specific case, you will need to check the item you are using. You could contact the manufacturer and see...
  17. Sure sounds like a gluten issue Becci. In celiac, the reaction is to wheat, rye, and barley proteins. If you are really curious, you could get some barley and eat it to see if you react. And maybe try some rye later too. And some wheat germ perhaps later. Then again, I'd have to be real curious before I would try that at this point, since I know how...
  18. Hey now, we had some pretty good grub in the Air Force, oh, 29 years ago or so. Most of the time I could tell exactly what I was eating just by looking at it! But they didn't let us grow beards or provide free fishing trips so what can you do? I read that they have to biopsy around the edge of the DH blisters t get a good result. But DH is DH ...
  19. Hi MKat, Welcome to our gluten-free world! Yes, the antibody blood test depend on the antibodies being present. After you stop eating gluten, the antibody production ramps down and the blood tests won't show them. So the usual plan is to keep eating gluten and get the blood drawn for the tests before going gluten-free. I have thyroid nodules and...
  20. I used to have swelling ankles and feet a lot. It turned out I had an allergy to something in wines, and after I stopped drinking them rotten grape juices my ankles and feet stopped swelling up all the time. I've never had an ANA test so no help there. I think I read they aren't real specific indicators though. Kind of not a very reliable test for any...
  21. There is a Wegmans' grocery store in Fairfax also, but you need a car or cab to go there. If you can catch a ride to a metro stop, you go to a lot of areas in and around DC for not too much money. They have a day pass for $11.80 good for all day. Transportation links Open Original Shared Link Metro Map Open Original Shared Link Metro's site...
  22. Hi Gaingus, The way I have read it, DH is an indicator of celiac disease, and nothing else. So, if you were diagnosed with DH, that would mean you have celiac also. That is regardless of GI symptoms or villi damage, DH still means celiac.
  23. Hi Becci, Those could be celiac symptoms. Sounds like it to me anyway. If you can stick to the diet for a couple months, you should see an improvement if it is celiac. But you need to be strictly 100$ gluten-free for it to work. Most people can do this by sticking to whole foods. Take a look around, there are quite a few threads about starting the...
  24. Another thing to maybe try is corn tortillas. I use the Mission brand corn tortillas sometimes.and they work ok for small roll ups. I like Kinickkinick bread and Whole Foods has pretty good bread also. Not that I eat bread very often though.
  25. Hi Jackie, There is a list of tests about 1/2 way down this page on the CSA website. Open Original Shared Link You can also find articles about testing on the homepage of celiac.com.
