  1. Searching for "autoimmune celiac" I get this hit: Open Original Shared Link What other health problems do people with celiac disease have? People with celiac disease tend to have other diseases in which the immune system attacks the body’s healthy cells and tissues. The connection between celiac disease and these diseases may be genetic. ...
  2. I imagine you are recording his symptoms every day and any changes right? You could consider sending those to the doc every week say on Wednesday so he/she knows how things are going. It might help them make their diagnosis sooner.
  3. You could also try taking some Betaine HCL once a week or every 2 weeks. If you do have low stomach acid it might clear up unfriendly bacteria in the stomach. I don't think it is good to take it every day myself IMHO. You could end up becoming dependent on it and that is not a good thing. Nobody wants to tell their parent they are hooked on acid after...
  4. If you have gotten into the gluten again (bad kid!) you might also benefit from some Pepto Bismol. Pepto can coat and sooth the innards and reduce irritation some.
  5. You would probably find some interesting info if you do a search on "goitrogen". Goitrogens (funny name huh?) inhibit the ability of the thyroid to uptake iodine. Soy is another known goitrogen. I used to take "Natural Sources" raw thryoid, and it helped me quite bit. I have weaned off it over time and after eliminating several other nasty trashy foods...
  6. You are welcome! Hang around, if we are full of anything it is free advice! Cheap at half the price.

    ARCHIVED Poll Time:

My mom's home made whole wheat bread. I could eat a whole loaf as fast she could get it out of the oven. She always made several at once. Or her home made cinnamon rolls. Or her chicken noodle soup, hand rolled noodles of course. Or her tuna cassarole. Or her lemon meringue or butterscotch pies Wow, she could have won contests with them. ...
  8. I'd suggest getting rid of the potatoes right off, and tomatoes, peppers, eggplants. They are all night shades and cause reactions in some of us. I know you are not eating those but want you to understand they are part of a group of potentially irritating foods. I can't eat carrots or celery either, but plenty of people can. Food intolerances can be...
  9. Welcome to the site! Since you are new I just want to be sure you understand that it is not just wheat we need to avoid, but also rye and barley, and oats are a problem for some of us. If you are celiac or gluten intolerant, you should be totally 100% gluten free. A little bit is not ok. Celiac is an auto-immune disease, which means your bodie's immune...
  10. It is not unusual to have an adjustment period after going gluten-free. It may help to take a pro-biotic once in a while. Also make sure your vitamin pills and medicines are gluten-free.
  11. Sleep, what do you need that for? I have had my share of sleep problems too. If I eat dairy I can't sleep. If I eat food colorings I can't sleep. If I watch scary movies I don't want to sleep. Lots of us have other food intolerances beyond gluten. You may need to experiment a while to find if any other food intolerances are affecting your...
  12. I used to be really dependent on coffee and tea to keep going. Basically had to "shoot up" with coffee every couple hours to keep from collapsing. When I quit coffee and tea I my energy level stabilized quite a bit. Then when I quit soy it really got a lot more even. I was thinking it was my thryoid also since I have a cyst and couple nodules. But...
  13. Uh-Oh, videos! Good catch! I know some of those out-doorsey videos have wheat fields in them! Geez just can't get a way. Just kidding. I hadn't thought of the possible book cc issue myself. Reminds me of the old joke about kicking her out for eatin' crackers in bed. It does seem possible though, if you think about used cook books for...
  14. Hi Jeanne, You might want to read up on Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Hashi's is an auto-immune disease where the anti-bodies attack the thyroid. There are tests for the thyroid anti-bodies but I don't know if they will be accurate if you are already gluten free. Women get Hashi's more than men from what I read. There are several people on this site that...
  15. I am pretty sure Nutella has soy in it. So nuts to Nutella! There, I said it! I feel better about not being able to eat it seeing as how you all don't really enjoy it at all. grrr... Just kidding! Sassin frassin Nutella nutz....
  16. Here is a blog post about casein intolerance. Open Original Shared Link here is a condition called called casein mediated enteropathy, where casein (a milk protein) causes an auto-immune reaction like celiac. Some of us (celiacs) on this board can't do dairy when new to the gluten-free diet, but then heal enough that our villi start producing lactase...
  17. Some wine makers use old barrel staves to add flavor to their chardonay wines. And some barrels are sealed with wheat paste. That is on the web, you can look it up or search for old threads here talking about it. Of course, that doesn't mean that gluten from the wheat paste or the barrel staves is in the wine.
  18. Just stick with the diet, and make sure you are really gluten free. It can take months to get better, as your body needs to settle down and stop making the anti-bodies to self that do the damage. The thing is, those antibodies don't turn off the instant you stop eating gluten. And if you get even a little bit of gluten, they kick back in until they have...
  19. I tend to think it could be caused by a low-level fever, possibly a food intolerance reaction. There are lots of things other than food intolerances that could cause night sweating I think, but it is a as good a place to start looking as any.

    ARCHIVED Discouraged

It was a full 2 years before I got to feeling really mostly right a majority of the time. But I had additional food intolerances crop up over that time that did quite a number on me too. It was kind of like the first week or so was a honeymoon period and then the marriage really got going. Oops, the recovery process that is. I'd been having strong...
  21. @LittleM Hey LittleM, anxiety can be caused by lots of things. Hyperthyroidism is one. Too much thyroid hormone running around your system can cause increased heat rate and excitability etc. Sometimes flushed, redness in the face, short temper, nervousness, heart palpitations, all are possible in any combination. There is a condition known as Hashimoto...
  22. Right, and the best and most important test is actual body response anyway. If he does better without gluten then there is no reason to feed it to him. Regardless of what any doctor or test says.
  23. @tehjrow Sorry tehjrow, that's a hard one to take. I got's 2 ex's myself. I talk to one on a fairly regular basis. She got re-married, to a stupid brain surgeon, why the heck would she want that? Silly 'ooman. But what the hey, life goes on and they are a happy family and I am happy for them. Took me a while to get over it though. We went to a mediator...
  24. Welcome to the site Wing! Lots of people actually have the symptoms for years before being diagnosed. That's actually one of the common grouches around here that the doctors are so clueless seeming and slow to suggest celiac or gluten intolerance. In my case I felt better within a few days but also still had months of learning to do (set backs) before...
  25. I don't know if doctors recommend avoiding soy, I wish they would. But it is a goitrogen and a well known one at that. So it isn't good for people's thyroid function. Of course it also has estrogen like chemicals in it which can wreak havoc with people bodies in other ways. And it is shown to impair the ability of intestinal cells to fully mature in rats...
