    ARCHIVED Ataxia

Hi Loey, There is a doctors section on the forum where you can search for info on doctors for your area. Also talk to your local celiac group about doctor recommendations.
  2. I get different reactions, but neither are pleasant. Soy is a standard rotation crop since it puts nitrogen in the soil. So there is always a chance of the last crop grown sprouting some volunteers. And then there is storage on the farm in large silos, using a conveyor belt, hauling by a truck to a collection center and storage, then selling and delivery...

    ARCHIVED Ataxia

Maybe it would be a good idea to lower the bed height closer to the floor for a while? Some bed frames have a couple different settings where you can hang the frame. Some people just put the mattress and springs right on the floor to lower the height too. I think that's pretty popular among students in fact. Maybe because they can't afford bedframes,...
  5. Hi, There is a strong link between gluten and brain affects. If you try searching for depression, pschizophrenia, bi-polar, ataxia etc and gluten you will find plenty of info on it. Lots of studies out there that show gluten affects the brain and causes various problems. There are also threads on this forum about people's symptoms getting better after...

I stopped in a place called Road Island Reds in Hyattsville yesterday for a quick bite with some artist friends and they set up a jazz session and then some poets got up and started spewing...
  7. Right GIG has a program called GFRAP Gluten Free Restaraunt Awareness program, or something like that. Search for GFRAP and you will find it. here it is: Open Original Shared Link
  8. They used to use wheat paste glue to put up wall paper. I am not sure if that is still used though. Some craft glues used wheat paste also, but some are acrylics now also. So you need to check labels. Children's play dough used to be made of wheat but I don't know if that is still done commercially. Most acrylic paints are liquid water solvent...
  9. Nightshades, potatoes and tomato are a common item in the recipes. I suppose that's already been tested though and not a problem.
  10. Somebody made funb of my mis-peeling of ideas as "idears" several paiges bak, so I am mift and havtint been bak. But I'm over tit now and half returnt. Tank you berry muck! 11. Nope, but all men think pretty much alike at certain times. Except those smart guys and them philogizers and such. Them ideas are pretty much male centric I suppose. But practical too! Haha, I don't know. SE Ohio? The hill country? Oops, 6'1", prolly too tall. I never heard of growing cactus from seeds...
  12. Hi MtAngel, Sounds like you just started the gluten-free diet in early Oct-2010? That's not a long time to reverse damage that may have been going on for years. But that doesn't mean you haven't started down the road to recovery either. A damaged gut can lead to malabsorption, poor vitamins/minerals/food absorption, which can lead to myriad other symptoms...
  13. Ahhh yes, it comes back when I am feeling well and get some sleep. That could be a bad thing... Hi RealMaverick (Paul), I agree that the whole foods diet can be a major change for some people. Heck, it was a big change for me. You have to work through things at your own pace of course. I had been a convenience food junkie for years...

  15. Dang, I thot the space shuttle was a winner. Actually a balloon ride sounds like a good time too. I saw where you had got rid of the craft supplies. I was just thinking a class was different than a kit, because she'd have an instructor and the environment/other kids might be stimulating. But if it doesn't work that's fine. My old work there was a...
  16. I think the answer to your question is yes, NCGI people can have a wide variety of symptoms, including nuerolgical symptoms. If you are eating out, it is best to check if the place has a gluten free menu before going. There is also the possibility of food poisoning, which your symptoms also sound like to me.
  17. Well, for starting out on the gluten-free diet: Don't eat any sugar. Don't eat any dairy. Don't pull little girls pigtails or dip them in the ink well. Unless it's Friday and you're bored. Don't eat any soy. Don't eat any processed foods. Try a pro-biotic once a week. Eat like a monk but limit the wine to normal people levels. Don...
  18. Regardless if the tests come back negative, it is best to go ahead and go gluten-free for 3 or 4 months. The tests are not 100% accurate/reliable, so a negative is not 100% reliable. Then there are also some people who never test positive but have severe symptoms. Tests are not as good a gauge of if you should be gluten-free as how your body reacts to...
  19. Love is the most important gift she can get, and I think you have that covered judging by your efforts to figure a good gift for her. I was thinking of an art class of some sort, painting or drawing or sculpture, if she likes to work with her hands. Some arts organizations have summer camps for kids to learn various arts, and the ones around here only last...
  20. Worth testing again is an good question. But I don't know the answer, only the individual can decide. There is not a lot of benefit to being diagnosed in the US. There may be more research studies willing to use her as a guinea pig in trials, but that is not a great reason to get diagnosed IMHO. In England I think they have a tax break for buying glutenfree...
  21. I don't know Janet, I had to wait 4 months to see a celiac specialist, just for an office visit. Of course by then I had gone gluten-free and already knew I had celiac or extreme gluten intolerance or something darn nasty and gluten related. Maybe this feller will pop in and tell us his results. Then again he last visited in 2008, so maybe not. What...
  22. It is not unusual to develop additional food intolerances after going gluten-free. That might explain the bloating that incited you to go see the doctor before the gluten challenge. I don't know why that happens, the additional intolerances. But it seems pretty common on this board. Sometimes it may be that they were always there but just were not noticed...
  23. They might be interested in the GFRAP program too. The GIG has the GFRAP program to train and certify restaurants to make/serve gluten-free food. I have no idea what the cost it for it. Open Original Shared Link
  24. You could stop the latte in the evening for a week and see what happens. I have not idea if this is it, but there is a whole hullabaloo about bedbugs around the the whole North-East this summer. Seems they are hard to get rid of but easy to get. Figures!
  25. I wrote a message to FFL asking them about the recall in Canada. Last time I wrote them it was several weeks before they responded. I think I am with Skylark on this one. They are on my soon to be non-edible list depending on thier response.
