  1. Thanks Loey! I slow down sometimes too. I have mostly been doing sketching here and there lately but haven't doing much painting. But now that's it's cooling down I will get my encaustics out and start having some fun with them. We have several artist members here. CoolClimates makes fabric art, and I think Ravenwoodglass makes glass art. So you fit right in with your jewel...

  2. That's good to hear you are doing better Roda. I do much better without many processed foods also.
  3. Hi loey, I went deep into the gluten-free world shortly after Thanksgiving 2007. Duhn duhn duh. Sorry, watching a silly spooky movie now. Anyway, my first 2 years were a rollercoaster ride of feeling better sometmes and worse more times. I was happy when I got to where I felt better for 5 days in a row. That was a neat trick. Anyway, I had lots to...
  4. I went to your web site and really liked your work. You're very talented. I especially like the the piece using pointillism. I'm a jewelry crafter and unfortunately my flare-up (and the state of disarray that moving has created) has stalled me. Maybe I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I know where some of my supplies are buried in the basement.

  5. Hi Loey, Welcome to our online world! This is a nice list for starters for sure. It doesn't hurt to double check things on the list though just in case things have changed since 2008. There are also safe food lists on the main site here, and lists of non-safe ingredients too. I think you will like it here. There are lots of helpful people and advice...
  6. Going gluten-free is the only treatment for celiac disease. But you should be aware that for many people the first months after going gluten-free are not especially smooth sailing on the digestive front. There can be ups and downs, back-slidings and advances. but a steady progression to healing is not the norm, IMHO. Your best path to heal is to stop...
  7. Celiac can show up at any point in life, youth, middle age or old age. So it's not odd that you would suddenly have symptoms after years of eating gluten without symptoms. You could ask your doctor for a copy of your test results and post them. Some people here are good at interpreting the results. I get the impression you were some what gluten lite before...
  8. Hey Glutenator, You posted about Vans' waffles. I had to quit those when I quit soy. Or rather soy quit me, something like that. So, although they seemed like a good thing, gluten-free and all that, for me they were not so fun. Celiacs here seem to get other food intolerances showing up fairly often. And the other food intolerances can cause plenty...
  9. You can adjust to the gluten-free lifestyle, just give it time. It gets easier after you have a few years experience. It doesn't go away though, so it is some thing you do have to be aware of from now on. But it doesn't have to be the main focus of you life once you get used to it.
  10. If you are eating many processed foods it is hard to avoid dairy. Lots of processed foods have casein or whey or lactose added, and may not even list is as a dairy ingredient. So life can be simpler by just not eating the processed foods. There are some processed foods that are safe for me, like Mission corn tortillas, Enjoy Life brown rice wraps, Enjoy...
  11. You can read about the digestive system on this link to Kimballs' Biology pages. Open Original Shared Link The Marsh scale is used to grade the amount of damage to the villi in celiac disease. I think yours sounds like high level damage, probably a level 4 on the Marsh scale. Isn't that encouraging? Ah well, we all start somewhere. Healing is...
  12. Hi BenVenit Peppers are nightshades and could be a problem for you. I don't eat peppers, tomatoes, potatoes or eggplants as they are all nightshades and do a number on me. Rice cakes you have to be careful of the brand. Lundberg rice cakes seem to work for people here, but Quaker not so much. I can't do carrots or turnips, not sure if they are...
  13. I usually get Planters brand nuts because they are clearly labeled. I haven't had any problems with their nuts that don't have gluten ingredients listed. Not all their nuts are gluten-free however, so you have to read the labels. Other nutz are kind of whacky and out there.
  14. I can tell you that I ate a lot more food before going gluten-free, and didn't gain weight. Now I eat less and put on weight. Sort of like a normal person now. You can get some liquid B-12 and try that, and some Vit D in gel capsules might help too. It's a good idea to get testing first so you can monitor your vitamin levels as you go.
  15. If you do go gluten-free now, then any testing for celiac from now on will be less reliable. Another celiac disease test they can do is an endoscopy, where they take tissue samples and look for villi degradation. If you want that done, you should stay on gluten until it is complete. But the benefit of a diagnosis is something you have to decide on. Either...
  16. Some people are able to eat dairy again after their villi heal. If you have lactose intolerance it can cause bloating and gas and D. There is another dairy problem called casein intolerance, and that is not as likely to go away. There are soy milk substitutes in many stores, although they are a poor choice IMHO. There are also hemp milk and almond milks...
  17. # Have gotten relief from Ataxia I wasn't sure what to answer on this one. I have had some balance problems but never had severe problems. So I didn't answer this one. Automatic F? Y Have gotten relief from Depression I definitely don't feel so depressed anymore. I even have a bit of my sense of humor back. Not sure that is a good thing...
  18. All good advice. Double checking your vitamin pills or eliminating them for a few days may help too. Some of the multi-vitamin pills have so many ingredients it's hard to know if one of them is bothering you except to not take them for a few days. Not that all vitamins are bad, but you have to be careful with them. I think it is best to get pills with...
  19. I went gluten-free before testing. I couldn't get an appointment for 3 months and didn't want to wait. My blood test came back negative but I already knew from my symptom resolutions that I was celiac. Plus anytime I got glutened my body reminded me in a hurry, and still does. I had black stool and red blood sometimes, painful bloating and outer-spacey...
  20. Hi Burdee, I have heard about mastic gum treatment for H. Pylori but haven't looked into it. If it worked for you then I think it is worth checking into. I had an ulcer a while back in my upper left stomach area. I used a somewhat unconventional treatment for it. I purposely laid on my left side for 10 or 15 minutes so the stomach acid would hit...
  21. Hi Burdee, I got relief from a few times with the HCL pills, but I certainly can understand that may not work for everyone. They did help me when I was getting bloated a lot too. It is good to hear they are helping you. They say that H. Pylori can lower stomach acid production. I guess it does that as a defense so it can thrive better.
  22. Hi Noni, I am not a big all fired up cook myself. I tend to just make a bunch of food on the weekend and eat that all week. I guess I don't care a whole lot about variety in my diet is all. I look for hamburger on sale, or chicken breast quarters on sale (with the skin and bones, much cheaper). And I buy large family size packages even though it is...

  24. I gots a trick! I gots a trick! It's a salad dressing trick. (and I hardly ever eat salads). Shake up your lemon juice or vinegar with some olive oil and Eyetalian spices and also either some psyillium husks or ground flax seed meal. The psyillium husks or flax seed meal will absorb moisture and make the dressing thicken and stay stable, instead...
  25. Oh no, no more Maceroni? And probably no more cheese too? Shoot, please stick around anyway, it is great having your input!
