I can say that I never once felt prejudiced against when I joined this forum almost a year ago. I came here totally clueless; I had stumbled across my gluten intolerance purely by accident. Everyone here was informative and helped me immensely. As another poster said, we all have to navigate around this diet; Celiac or not. This is an online support...

ARCHIVED Tired, Frustrated, Scared
lizard00 replied to Kit.DaMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome!!! I was thinking the same things as the previous poster. Dont' look at this as a "diet" in terms of a weight loss diet. Use the word diet in it's correct form: a compilation of what you normally eat. Your diet just has to change, that's all. See avoiding gluten as avoiding poison, rather than feeling like not having the cookie is depriving... -
ARCHIVED Grainless Baker Named Innovator Of Year
lizard00 replied to happygirl's topic in Publications & Publicity
That is very cool! Any help in raising Celiac awareness is great! Thanks for posting! -
ARCHIVED Need Advice--should I Proceed Or Give Up?
lizard00 replied to QueenOfPain's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just wanted to add my support. It's hard in the beginning, and trying to figure out what is good or not. This month is my one year of being gluten free (YAY!), and I've gotten glutened my fair share. Just the other day in fact: a salad from a local restaurant. I've eated it many times before, but that was time that got me. It's like roulette. For... -
Are we related? I was thinking the exact same thing. Those are my two main food groups, too. Thanks Shay. It's a cool site!

ARCHIVED gluten-free Pizza In Raleigh!
lizard00 replied to lizard00's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Glenwood Ave. Right as you start getting toward Glenwood South, which is downtown; Five Points. Have you heard of Nofo or 3rd Place? They're right next door to 3rd Place and Nofo is right behind it. If you can get to Glenwood Ave. and go toward downtown, you're set. -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
lizard00 replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hey guys! Hope you don't mind someone else dropping in! Just wondering, is Agave nectar on the ok list?? I'm thinking of trying the SCD to see if I notice any improvement. We're not big sugar fans around here anyway, but we use that when we do have to have it. Thanks! Liz -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Pizza In Raleigh!
lizard00 replied to lizard00's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Not yet. I just heard about it last night. But they are voted the best pizza in Raleigh. I'm sure it's good. I hope to try it soon. It's in the downtown area. -
All of you out there in Raleighwood or surrounding, FINALLY a restuarant around here has gotten with the program. Lilly's pizza at five points has just started serving gluten-free pizza. I think right now they are only making a few crusts a week, but if enough folks around here pull together, maybe we can get them to make more. One small victory...

ARCHIVED When To Seek A Second Opnion?
lizard00 replied to GF-Canadian's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I totally echo what Laura said. Go find someone else, because it is possible to have Celiac without the two genes. Personally, I would run far and fast from any doctor who told me not to worry about damage done to my body. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free, Dairy Free, Favorite Things, Shopping Online
lizard00 replied to artselegance's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had that feeling, too. It was not a good day when I realized I couldn't eat cheese... Anyway, then I realized that a lot of my food was already DF. I'm a bit health conscious, so I didn't eat tons of it anyway. I missed my yogurt and cheese, and that was about it. So, for yogurt I have found So Delicious coconut milk yogurt. It's a little expensive... -
ARCHIVED Wheat Intorence And Gluten Intolorence Are They The Same Thing?
lizard00 replied to kezee's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you're ONLY wheat intolerant, then yes, you can eat barley, rye and oats. Have you been diagnosed intolerant or did you stumble across is as many of us did? I would still suggest you do certified gluten-free oats as they may otherwise be contaminted with wheat. It's important for you to know which, as it will dictate how strict you must be with your... -

ARCHIVED 18 Month Old Tests Results Are Back
lizard00 replied to Avasmom12's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
IgG is another antibody that is involved in an immune response, more generalized antibody. IgA is made by the intestinal immune system... in case you were wondering the difference. -

ARCHIVED 18 Month Old Tests Results Are Back
lizard00 replied to Avasmom12's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My IgA is very low. My GI told me I would never test positive with the standard order bloodwork. (most docs don't test for IgG unless you specifically ask) He ran the gene test on me, discovered I was double DQ2 which put me in the highest risk bracket. That with the fact that I drastically improved on the diet gave him enough to diagnose me. Testing in... -
ARCHIVED When Blood Results Are Negative But Still Have Symptoms
lizard00 replied to TracyB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did they test your total IgA serum? That would be a good number to have, if you have it. If you could post your results here, we can help you. -
ARCHIVED Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
lizard00 replied to RissaRoo's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Mine were like a little cake too. I had to bake mine for about 15-16 min I think, but that's just a little longer than what the recipe said. Even that, after they cooled they seemed to get just a tad dry, not enough to make them not taste good, but I wondered if I over baked them. Either way, they were yum!! -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet
lizard00 replied to sophiejay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks artgirl! My intention in referring you to the thread was to jump in and ask... sorry, sometimes I think great thoughts in my head and can't quite get them across. Sorry for the confusion -
I can't eat oranges much either. Partly because I really don't care much for citrus in general, but I find that the things I don't much care for usually are the things that don't agree with me.

Well, today is the day that I started officially blogging. It's kind of strange putting yourself out there like that... My hope is that one day I'll be able to put all of my knowledge to work for those who don't have the resources to find out how to live better. This includes Celiac, but certainly is not limited to it. I mean, any sort of GI disorder...

ARCHIVED Hello From Wisconsin
lizard00 replied to tiplernorth's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Um... yeah. I don't live in Wisconsin, have never lived in Wisconsin nor do I have any plans to. (I REALLY don't like cold weather ) But, I wanted to say welcome! It's nice to have you here -
ARCHIVED Complex Migraines + Gluten Intolerance = Celiacs?
lizard00 replied to foodlens's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Same with me. Daily headaches, migraines depending on how much gluten I ate. (ex.... pasta, dessert, cereal, bread... all in the same day) Some days I wondered how I could hold my head up. I rarely get headaches any more, except on a glutening or with the seasonal change, like right now. But nothing like that ones before. I hope this helps, and I hope... -
ARCHIVED So Sorry To "trouble" You.. Ugh!
lizard00 replied to mysecretcurse's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've never made hummus with tahini. Mostly cuz I never have it and forget to get it when I'm out. But, it always is fabulous. I've started recently making it with white kidney beans, cumin, garlic powder, lemon juice, salt and olive oil. Added some fresh cilantro last time and it was soooo good. MMmmm... I LOVE hummus! -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet
lizard00 replied to sophiejay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi and welcome! By now, you may have already seen this thread: Open Original Shared Link It's usually pretty active and offers support to those doing the SCD. It's the post above yours. I'm sure others will jump in though. Feel free to ask away!! Someone usually knows the answer.
