ARCHIVED Maybe Celiac? Waiting On Test Results
lizard00 replied to aeryn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the site! I would never wish celiac on anyone, but sometime's it represents a huge closure to have an answer to what's causing so much disruption in your life. And it's pretty easily treatable. Anyway, I hope you find the cause to what's ailing you!! -
ARCHIVED Baking Business
lizard00 replied to lizard00's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A local market has just opened up that is geared toward local, organic produce and meats. I have already spoken with the owner and he's interested, but I have to go through the process. Here in NC, we are allowed to process baked goods in our home kitchen since it's considered low risk. I have to submit an application to the NC Dpt of Agr and they set up... -
ARCHIVED My Gluten-Free Pizza Story... Oy!
lizard00 replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was always a fan of Z Pizza, until the last time I ate there. I have been making my own pizza for quite some time now, but I just didn't feel like it this particular night. Long story short, I found the pizza to be pretty tasteless AND it make me sick for about a week. There is always a risk when you eat out, so I took the sickness for what it was. But... -
ARCHIVED Baking Business
lizard00 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm seriously toying with the idea of opening a business from my home in which I would make baked goods to sell to a local vendor or two. I have someone that I am hoping to meet with tomorrow and am wondering if you guys could help me narrow down a top 5 favorite/most requested list. Thanks Also, if you have any business name ideas throw them... -
Welcome to you both! Hope you find lots of valuable information here, I know I did. As for gluten-free baking, it is an animal all of its own. You'll get the hang of it, just keep working at it.

Yeah, it's probably a store issue with contamination or something along those lines. I eat at the one by my house waaay too much. To be honest, I don't LOVE Chick Fil A, but as far as fast food goes, it's generally a safe bet for me. And I'm pretty sensitive. I have eaten at some others though, and felt a lil funky afterwards. I'm pretty sure it's a gluten...

We have kept her gluten free until about a month ago. For the reasons that Tiffany said... it has been shown to reduce their chances by introducing it before a year. I don't cook foods with gluten in them, but she loves graham crackers, and she loves to feed herself. The downside being that there's graham cracker goo everywhere. Cheerios I can deal with,...

ARCHIVED Bic Soleil Disposable Razors
lizard00 replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Random indeed I can't use disposable razors because they break my legs out in a rash. I always figured it was cause it was cheap razor or something along those lines, never thought of it as an allergic reaction. Now you've made me ponder this great mystery. -
Have any of you limited or kept your children from eating gluten, not because it affected them, but because it was one of the only ways to keep your sanity? I'm finally trying my 10 month old on gluten, and she seems to be handling it fine, but I want to take her off of it just because I can't stand it being everywhere. I have been feeling kinda funky recently...

ARCHIVED Can Ab Workouts Aggravate Intestinal Inflammation?
lizard00 replied to bridgetm's topic in Sports and Fitness
They seem to bother me. I have to be pretty careful or I'll start to feel nauseous and it'll last for a couple hours afterwards. It did get better the longer I was off of gluten and felt like my insides weren't on fire, but if I get accidentally glutened, it's bad. -
ARCHIVED Total And Complete Exhaustion
lizard00 replied to snow white's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was exhausted, too. Took me about 6 months before I could make it through the day without needing a nap. The process of your body healing itself is a big one. Be patient, you didn't get sick overnight. I noticed big jumps in energy when i took B12 and then later when I started on vitamin D. I had my thyroid checked 2 or 3 times, it was always normal... -
ARCHIVED What's It Like 5 Years Out? Inspire And Encourage Us!
lizard00 replied to Chakra2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, I'm only half way to the 5 year mark. I've been gluten-free for 2 1/2 years now, and I can tell you that without a doubt, it got much easier for me. The first 6 months were definitely the hardest, especially because there is just so much information out there and so much in your life that has to be changed. But as I started to feel better, it... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Get Sick Of Foods Easily?
lizard00 replied to KevinG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. I get bored with food really fast. I think it has gotten worse since gluten-free, but not because it's a celiac thing. I started eating so many different things that I realized the variety of foods that I was missing out on before. Now I find I get really tired of foods quickly. Oh well...I just look at going to the grocery store as an adventure. I see... -

ARCHIVED Finger Foods For 8 Month Old
lizard00 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter just turned 8 months old, and she is grabbing at food and trying to feed herself, so I want to give her some finger foods. But she was on reflux medicine from the time she was 2 months old, has a couple of foods that she can't eat thus far, so we are very leary to give her gluten right now. It seems all of the finger foods are "whole grain goodness... -
ARCHIVED Eating Out
lizard00 replied to masterjen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Eating out is tricky, and you always have to remember that you are at the mercy of others. I have a couple places that I stick to, but in general, eating outside of those places is not high on my list. Even at that, I got seriously glutened from gluten-free pizza. The place takes a lot of precautions to make sure there is no contamination, so I'm not sure... -

ARCHIVED Red Robin - Mixed Results And The Reason Why
lizard00 replied to Eric-C's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've never had a problem with RR, but as Patti said, it's important to make sure they know what's up. I always wondered about the seasoning, too, because it looked safe. But, if they say to leave it off, I leave it off. Glad I did -
ARCHIVED Sleeping And Food Intolerances/allergies
lizard00 posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had my son tested for celiac about a 18 months ago or so, and it came back negative. At that time, there really wasn't anything going on. Within the past couple months he has developed super-duper dry skin, which nothing seems to help as of right now. (He's ALWAYS scratching.) We eliminated gluten for a small time, but didn't really notice anything. We... -
ARCHIVED Considering Becoming A Consultant
lizard00 replied to JNBunnie1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been toying with that idea, too. Let me know if you decide to go for it. I've put it on the backburner right now for other reasons, but I think there is a definite need. Around here anyway. -
ARCHIVED Raging, Inflammed Intestines
lizard00 replied to Link's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That was how I was in the beginning. I get the milder form of that now when I get glutened. I ate chicken, bananas, potatoes and maybe one or two more things for what seemed like two weeks. They were the only things that bothered me minimally. When they stopped, I started adding things little by little. To agree with another poster, find what doesn't bother...
