  1. If you already have a preferred brand of flavored coffee (and as a fellow coffee lover, I'm sure you do ), give them a call and ask. Plain coffee beans are gluten-free, and I have never had an issue with them. I did get glutened once from flavored coffee-- I'm pretty sure it was barley malt or some such. That was one in many though, and I think it was the...
  2. We were at my my mom's last night and she and her husband don't turn on the air... ever. He wanted a blanket. Last night was milder than it has been, but the house was by NO means cold. It's just odd that he's always so cold. I'm thinking he needs to go. I just am unsure if the two are related. I emailed his teacher and asked how the bathroom situation...
  3. I thought I would pose this question here since you are some of the most knowledgable folks I know. My son's teacher emailed me a couple of weeks ago that he had been going to the bathroom a lot. So we talked about it, and a couple of days later when I asked him about it again, he said he went at the appropriate times. There are some days where I think...
  4. She'll be in 2 in September I suppose I should.
  5. We need to get together. I remember you from 2 years ago and I remember that you live close by. Seriously. Liz
  6. HAHA! Thankfully my husband understands... but now my 1 yr old daughter steals them from me. What to do?!?!
  7. Carol Fenster's recipe blend (which I'm pretty sure she created using Bette Hagman's ratios) is: 1 1/2 C sorghum flour 1 1/2 C potato starch 1 C tapioca starch Here's the recipe: (I think she does have it posted somewhere on one of her sites, but I'll save you the trouble.) 1 T yeast 2/3 C warm milk 2 1/2 t sugar (you don't have to put the sugar...
  8. Sylvia: Have you tried Carol Fenster's pizza crust recipe? It's our favorite. I've given it to kids, adults, anyone. No one knows the difference. (And you don't have to buy Jules' special flour )
  9. We had rosemary garlic (with lemon slice on top) roasted mutton shank, lobster tail, fresh garden peas sauteed with mushroom and garlic and little white wine, mashed red potatoes. Yes it sounds ridiculous... but it was GOOD!!! :D :D
  10. I have never had a problem with mixed drinks-- but I usually mix my own and don't use mixes. My husband and I killed the bottle of bourbon a couple of days ago. I only use agave tequila, but that's just cause I'm a purist with just about anything that I consume. When I get a drink out, it's usually a margarita. They're my fave. There is gluten-free...
  11. I also use Ener-G. I'm not sensitive to oats, so I use BRM with no problems. But I use Ener-G's potato and tapioca starch often. I am pretty sensitive to gluten and have never had an issue with it.
  12. This makes me so happy! Congrats!
  13. We had sea bass seared in butter with just a little salt, pepper and garlic. The hubs wanted potato chips and ketchup (which I generally find to be offensive) so I made a salad out of fresh cauliflower, green beans, cucumber and dill and mixed in a couple of tablespoons of yogurt, finished off with a little squeeze of lemon. Even my son ate it. It was...
  14. Definitely don't use them interchangeabley... more on the end of don't use rice flour instead of sweet rice flour. ICK!
  15. I'm allergic to egg whites. Eating eggs by themselves have made me sick since I can remember, but I had an allergy test done and that's what showed up. It is very hard to bake without eggs, BUT you can skip the egg in a pancake. I just tried it recently, and I didn't notice. Except I didn't feel gross after I ate them. I can handle eggs in baked...
  16. The only thing at Wendy's I will eat is a salad or the chili. So, if I have to go there, I'll get the baja salad or whatever the one is that comes with chili. I used to ask about their fries, and I don't think any of the Wendy's ever told me that their friers were NOT dedicated. But I noticed I felt like crap everytime I ate them, so they're gone. I also...
  17. That flank steak sounds YUM!! I just got a flank steak. The last one I got we stir fried and it was so good. But I am going to marinate it this time around. We had andouille sausage with red potatoes and corn on the cob. I got the produce from the farmer's market this morning and it was so good!
  18. I think we're doing some pork and lamb meatballs with red potatoes (probably mashed, but I'm not sure) and either the fresh peas or fresh snap beans that have been living in my fridge. I'm starving.
  19. In good ole' Raleigh, NC.
  20. I worked in retail management for a bit, until my oldest was about 18 mos old, then I quit and worked for my mom at her small business. After my second was born, I didn't go back. But we most definitely need two incomes, SO, I decided to bake gluten-free from home. And yes, I LOVE IT!!! I love working for myself, being able to drop off and pick up my son...
  21. TACO NIGHT!!!!!!! I've loved taco night since I was a kid! I've just added avocadoes and fresh pico de gallo.
  22. Your family doctor can order the test. Make sure they do a complete celiac panel. You would think by now I would have this info saved somewhere, but I don't. Lots of other people here can give you the complete list of tests that are involved in a celiac panel. I have never had any problem with my doctor running a test on me. I love my doctor though...
  23. Tonight I am working furiously, so I decided to do some stew lamb because it requires very little attention. I threw some crushed garlic, rosemary, an onion, and a little balsamic vinegar in there. We'll see how it turns out. I'm not sure what else to do with it, though I do have some fresh veggies that will probably do. Maybe some green beans...
  24. Hey gourmands! I have some spicy ground pork sausage that I need to use. Any suggestions? I know I had something in mind when I bought it, but can't for the life of me figure it out now! Oh, and it has to be quick, too! I won't be getting home tonight until after 8, so I want something hubs and I can cook quickly.
  25. If you eat that stuff that's made on shared equipment, you do run that risk... whether it's 1 in 10, in your case. But if you get that 1 in 10 product that makes you feel sick, to me, it's not worth it. I generally avoid foods that have a made on shared equipment disclaimer. I don't freak out as much as shared facility foods for myself, although I do try...
