  1. Food cravings are a part of being malnourished from the damage that celiac causes to the linings of the intestines, so you are not getting all your necessary vitamins and minerals. The caffeine cravings are from the fact that getting glutenned makes one sleepy, groggy, or brain- fogged and the caffeine is a handy antidote. This means if you stick to...
  2. Is this guy trying make sick patients, or cure them ?
  3. More likely something in that sauce. Take plain rice pasta, cooked, and toss with chopped fresh ripe tomatoes and evoo olive oil, and see what happens.
  4. The box of "Top Care" Ibuprofen tablets 200 mg says "gluten free" on the box, and lists cornstarch as the 2nd filler (inactive) ingredient. The bottle itself, of the one I have, does not list the ingredients and says look at the box for them. Which is why I keep it in the opened box. I was going to say don't assume in the Advil name brand all products...
  5. Have to watch out that the vitamin E is not made from wheat.... having better luck with those B complex vitamins and the calcium/mag. I feel sorry for all the undiagnosed, or never figured it out for themselves types of people, who are getting told to take anti depressants or neurotin for the neuropathy because the true cause is unknown, and they are...
  6. I have no idea if this would work, but could you try some ginger root on him ? You can also experiment with him drinking a lot of water to try to flush it out. He may not want to eat much of his regular food, humor him. Do not beat yourself up too much, just resolve to try to do better next time. Alas for almost all of us, we need to be trained...
  7. No, you won't taste the psyllium very much, but the mouth texture will be a bit different. It will stiffen up the loaf a bit, make it seem drier. You have to pre soak it first in a little bit of water, then add it to the recipe. What recipe are you using for this falling bread ? Do you have a link ? Is it a yeast risen recipe ? Some recipes just...
  8. I associate cookies with feeling sick so it's not that difficult to say "no." Parents have to buy the d*mned cookies and pass them off on somebody. Recently there were Girl Scouts pushing cookies at the lumber store AND the ski area this past week. I just say, sorry, no thanks, I can't eat them, and go on. Just bring your own treats to...
  9. Yeah, if they start putting cashews in one_more_flavor of the Larabars I am going to scream.
  10. At least the poor guy isn't getting told over and over again, IAIYH.
  11. Y'all need to eat what you can digest, but the easiest way to get "staying power" on a lower carbohydrate diet is to increase your consumption of high quality proteins and good fats, such as olive oil, coconut oil or coconut milk, eggs, nuts, hard cheeses if you can tolerate dairy, gluten free dark chocolate, avocados, mayonnaise, etc.
  12. Well, she could either be getting cross contaminated, or she has additional allergies or food intolerances, or it is a combination of both. Also, with these reactions, they are not "cut-and-dried" for all people, they don't start up and then stop immediately. They may take several days to get over. AND, this is the worst part, especially if you have...
  13. It is reading posts like this which let me know immediately that the poster must be in the USA, and that our medical system is still comprised of mostly complete...... idiots. Rule #1. MAKE them give you a written hard copy, on paper, of the test results, always. Even if you have to go to the doctor's office and demand them in person. Different labs...
  14. I bought a jar of generic vaseline this summer to use on one of the horses as a barrier to insects biting her on sensitive areas, and much to my surprise it was quite perfumey without this floral scent being mentioned on the label . I was a bit concerned, as she has allergies to some herbal oils and pasture weed plants, but fortunately she did not react...
  15. ((((lynnelise))))) While is is a shock to get a diagnosis with something off with one's brain, I am happy that at least you seem to have a neurologist who is trying to diagnose you in a timely matter.
  16. 1. Plan ahead for meals AND snacks. If there is enough gluten free yummy options around, "cheating" isn't an issue if nutritional needs and emotional needs are being met. Keep in mind some vitamin/mineral deficiencies, in the beginning, can cause cravings for carbohydrates and sugars. 2. Buy some lunchbox type containers such as a small picnic sized...
  17. Not necessarily, as strange as it may seem. The intestines are quite long and the damage is patchy.... they are looking for the atrophy in the haystack, so to speak. Plus, you can be reacting to different foods in addition to gluten - and some or all of this may go away after going gluten free, or sometimes one discovers additional intolerances. People...
  18. "Completely fine" people don't need Miralax daily, nor have frequent migraines..... you can get the skin next to the "eczema" biopsied to see if it is DH, which is also a way to get an official diagnosis.
  19. They won't report the results until next year, 2013, at the earliest ? Then they are going to "study" it ? Wonder how many years it will take them to say that ingesting unlabelled, undisclosed gluten routinely, has an effect on celiacs and gluten intolerants ? American Exceptionalism
  20. Bare minerals are gluten free. You apply it with a brush, wet or dry. Ecco Bella lipstick is gluten free.
  21. Look at the blog source of this article, (political) the other blogs they link to, and it's an election year. Notice how the FDA made some sounds about "studying" a gluten free labeling standard for the United States last year,( which they've been doing for years as the rest of the world leaves us behind ), took some comments, took some more comments...
  22. "Scientists" are not all claiming that these things (the low gluten hosts) are "safe." Somebody somewhere has made a decision that assumes this level of parts per million of gluten should not cause a reaction in the majority of gluten-free consumers. Big difference. The ultra -sensitives, as Skylark has pointed out, were tossed out of the study.
  23. Lay off the Diet Coke and get a small, inexpensive microwave. Microwaves turn off when the time setting is done. Put the microwave in your room, along with a small table or cart to hold bowls, etc. You can cook gluten free breads easily in the microwave in 1.5 to 2 minutes, in small ramekins. This is a no- brainer. You can use Pamela's gluten free...
  24. Oh, here we go again with this IAIYH ****.
  25. She knows people who have gone on a gluten free diet, and have actually gained weight. Oh, the horrors. Gee, lady, could it possibly be that they aren't malnourished anymore ?
