  1. As has been said before.... Where's the beef ?
  2. We love talking about this stuff, so don't apologize ! Use a clean new baking pan or cover the old one in foil for now- it's nearly impossible to get an old baking pan clean unless it's sandblasted... For bread baking without yeast, you can leaven gluten-free breads nicely with apple cider vinegar and baking soda. If dairy is a problem, leave it out...
  3. I see a gluten free bakery in your future.
  4. Almost all adults become somewhat lactose (milk sugar) intolerant after age 40. Earlier is another sign of celiac and gluten intolerance. You may be able to still tolerate gluten-free yogurt or hard aged cheeses, where the lactose is aged out. Diluted yogurt can be used on cereal. Watering down regular milk won't do a thing. Skim or milk powder...
  5. _____________ I consider it one of the basic four food groups ( meat, vegetable, fruit, and things that taste great but are fat) and was raised with it as an essential ingredient, so it's not that I don't like it or am impugning the brand, but it is definitely something I was reacting to, based on self trials. Sandwich with, gut bloating. Sandwich without...
  6. Look at the bright side, you've caught it before it did a lot of damage. If I could give my over age 50 body out as a loaner for other people to borrow for 24 hours to see what it is like, I bet I could have most of the OMG I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THIS peeps begging for a grocery shopping list. I am self diagnosed (after forcing a neurologist's office...
  7. So what are you going to do about it ? What kind of co- opt is this? Who's the manager? Who's the specific vendor who is making the falsely labeled product? Does the baker know how the products are treated at the display case? Is the sales clerk clueless ? Who issues them a license to sell products ? Who do you report them to for selling...
  8. You can try blogging about it, a lot of on line sites have opportunities for that. You also have to accept that the majority of people actually can eat the stuff and it doesn't bother them. Of the ones who can't eat the stuff and shouldn't be, a certain percentage just can't handle the thought of changing their diet, and will be in denial. They will...
  9. Wet wipes. Not just for babies.
  10. It is not USUALLY found in fruit juice, but it sometimes shows up in bottle fruit juice blends like smoothies, as a thickener. And some people will have a bit of trouble with commercial orange juice because sometimes they coat oranges with a coating to preserve them that has it in them- I stick to real oranges and peel the things. I was drinking a store...
  11. It is "supposed" to be gluten free but I seem to be one of the people who have reacted to it. I don't do well with modified food starches. I use regular mayonnaise instead that is labeled gluten free, and if I want to make it taste like Miracle Whip, I add some extra apple cider vinegar and some sweetener to it. Soybean oil does not normally contain...
  12. I am a bit confused about the cake pan, are you talking about the "Wilton Giant Cupcake Pan" that has 2 indentations, one for the bottom shaped like a cupcake and another half rounded one for the top ? The site I'm looking at says it makes a 7 1/4" x 7 1/2" cupcake and holds 10 cups of batter. What I would do with gluten free batter is to perhaps...
  13. Before I changed my diet I used a bread machine. Then I spent a few years nearly grainless. Then when I started expanding my diet slowly, I used a lot of almond meal, so I was grinding it myself anyway in the blender. I finally started scratch baking again. Started experimenting with all sorts of different gluten free flours. Used the oven...
  14. If you are in the Sacramento region, Steve's Pizza has a gluten free pizza that I've had several times now, that's very good. They have restaurants in Sac, Roseville, and Davis. There is also Mariposa Gluten Free Bakery in Oakland that sells good vegetarian gluten free pizza at lunchtime, besides their baked goods and bagels. The first time I looked...
  15. You didn't say how old you were. But you're probably not over 30 if you're that cavalier about it. I don't react overtly to gluten the way others do (but now that I'm 6+ years off, this is changing a bit, I can tell ) and I would have had a vastly different life if I had somehow been correctly diagnosed when I started having the other auto immune problems...
  16. I can't believe some people here are saying that other people, who are having a reaction to topical products, irregardless of how the reaction is occuring, are supposed to be unbelievable. Let me educate you. All reactions are real if they occur, and I don't think whether or not it was an allergy or an auto immune response is a deal breaker for the discussion...
  17. Oh, wow, I just read thru all 5 pages of comments on that. What a trip. There were definitely some people there that have taken trolling about auto immune diseases to new heights. On the other hand, the sheer number of people who at least knew what celiac and gluten intolerance was, or thought they knew , seemed to be much higher than a few years...
  18. I think it's my personality, but I don't have too much trouble as I just bring my own food and refuse politely to eat anybody else's, and my spouse will sometimes chirp up with "it's a food allergy." Now he knows and I know that it's not quite the same, but if I have to scare people into thinking I might have something like a blatant allergic reaction,...
  19. So even Betty Crocker can't get rice flour to work on the first try ?
  20. Sometimes other doctors or laypeople ask why I don't have a rheumatologist. That's why.
  21. Rondar2001 has a link up to a much better write up of this from a Canadian site. It sounds like the MPR writer or editor was not quite up to speed on the topic. Of course, the first sentence is a doozy, but it's an improvement. Open Original Shared Link It's the attack of the Wheat Protein Ninja. Run ! Run ! No, you goombah copy...
  22. The Canadians did a better job with that than Minnesota Public Radio. I'm going to put that link in the other post so Dr Murray doesn't get trashed.
  23. Oh, gee whiz, that is pathetic. There is possibility the reporter was so clueless that he or she misinterpreted, but oh, wow, that's bad. Uh, no, we don't know the environmental trigger for the disease. Not everybody with the genetics that they have found associated with it, so far, starts reacting to the wheat family. Wheat isn't making everyone...
  24. Arrowhead Mills makes peanut butter that is labeled gluten free on the jar. You have to stir it up and keep it in the refrigerator once opened. I use raw nuts, otherwise, I don't trust anybody to process the things. I live in a big almond and walnut growing area and buy the raw ones in big bags. Ditto sunflower seeds, I only use raw ones that are pre...
