  1. Yeah, well that's what I did with a nephrologist when I was here last year and ended up in the ER with BP of 198/100 Had another nephrology consult in New Zealand and they concluded that what I was taking was probably the best way to go, but I am trying to think back about my potassium monitoring. Will have to send an email to my doc's nurse - those...
  2. Definitely budgetary decisions. But that dietician should be fired. One night when I called in my order I was told they were "all out of vegetables" My god, that should make up the bulk of the menu, but the only actual vegetable on the menu was "vegetable" available for order with dinner (that's what they were all out of) and a spinach salad and I can't...
  3. Open Original Shared Link Hmmm.....
  4. Didn't need to - I saw HIS thumbs too!
  5. I had always dreaded finding myself in this position, and it was even worse than I feared because my doc placed me on a cardiac diet to boot! My heart problems were so unrelated to fat and salt, but those things were eliminated, along with the gluten, soy, nightshades, corn, citrus etc. Needless to say, I had to order off the a la carte menu, which they...
  6. Yeah, I eat lots of chard, but I think it is the oxalates in spinach that do a number on me
  7. Well guys, believe it or not, my admitting physician was Dr. John Hung , and I think he must have changed his name to compensate for the tiny thumbs, like little matchsticks they were . A doc came wandering into my two-bed room yesterday morning (other bed empty) and poked his head around and said, "Are you Ms. Salcido??? (incredulously)" I said no...
  8. Good link, Jess; thanks! It's a pity I can't eat a lot of those high potassium foods, but most of the high ones that are on the list that I don't have to avoid are in my diet. I have been on a different diuretic for about a year and that seems to have thrown the potassium out of whack, although I think??? they have been checking it pretty regularly. Don't...
  9. Well, Kareng, don't be too quick to give the lake an undeserved bad rep - this was in Reno, at Renown Regional Medical Center where my doc practises The docs at Incline Hospital gave me potassium on the first occasion and I converted quite quickly, so they got it right. Interesting about the apple juice - will get some until the pharmacy gets their...
  10. I agree with the other posters. They have been a lifesaver for me. I have taken a variety of different preparations, and find they all work quite well, some better than others. I would suggest experimenting to see what works best for you. I usually try to buy the kind that you take one per day with your evening meal so that your digestive system can maximally...
  11. Well, it all turned out guys, that it was a lack of potassium after all, which is what I told them going in there. I told them about my prior a-fib and low potassium, and how I had been trying to penetrate the voice mail to get an "urgent" appointment with my PCP for an appt. and a prescription for potassium. Grrrrr -- I think I am going to tell my PCP that...
  12. I am aqlso intolerant of quinoa - horrible much, ghastly reactions
  13. Get yourself admitted to the hospital where they have to call in specialists for consultation. I just got home from doing this (well, actually I was admitted kicking and screaming ). I had already decided this summer to seek out a cardiologist, and the condition I was admitted for (atrial fibrillation) required the services of such a person. I was lucky...
  14. I'm in your camp too, Lisa. My bloating has never gone away and my diet is pretty restricted. However, I do bloat much worse when I eat the high-lectin-containing foods (soy, corn, nightshades, legumes, and for me at the moment citrus). And this bloating can be more extreme now that I am gluten free (although it did formerly cause me to faint from pressure...
  15. I use lots of olive oil, also grapeseed (high smoke point) and coconut oils, some avocado oil (salad dressings mostly)
  16. My baby brother was given growth hormone as a child. Besides being an extremely sickly child with eczema among other things he had the failure to thrive. I believe he was probably celiac but was never tested. Developed seizure disorder as an adult Never did grow a whole lot even with the hormone. Died of seizure related complications.
  17. My itchy skin turned out to be intolerances to both soy and potato starch.
  18. Nope, but I do know it is not Round Up or Malathion She was horrified that I used to use Redken products - now it's Tea Tree oil.
  19. Psoriatic arthritis here.
  20. Sue, I have just arrived back stateside and have not been Whole Foods shopping - I read it on here from another poster and just added it to my Whole Foods list. It is possible not all stores carry it. I would ask them.
  21. Ouch, Pads, what a bummer to be so scensitive to 'scents'. I once went for a consultation with someone who asked me not to wear perfume or deodorant of any kind, but I had not washed my hair and there was hairspray residual. She asked me to leave and we did the consult over the phone T'is no laughing matter. My sister is supersensitive to chemical sprays...
  22. The gel caps are normally vegetable derived; don't know about "plastic" capsules.
  23. Could you please put some gluten ffee breadcrumbs and sausage and onions on me instead of the mashed potatoes ?? Thank ya kindly
  24. New Zealand produces some very nice merino wool garments - good for the New Joisey winters (but not necessarily the summers) - all da Kiwis 'cept me wear wool; me, I'm a wash 'n wear gal Hate having my house look like a commercial laundry (being PC here).
  25. So you can eat all the nighshade family, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers. You can eat rice and other gluten free grains. You can eat rice pasta with pesto and olive oil, or with tomato sauce! (even with meat in it). You can have hemp milk with gluten free cereal and all the fruits you desire. You can eat nuts other than almonds, and seeds like pumpkin...
