  1. Repeat after me: "New Zealand and Australia are two very different countries separated by 1700 miles of ocean. Australia is old world; New Zealand is new world. Their critters are totally different." In fact, used to be New Zealand didn't have many critters, especially not girnormous bats (although we do have some itty bitty ones somewheres). Someone let...
  2. I agree with WheatChef that it would be interesting to know what she was tested for and what the results were for those tests. The doctor may not have any familiarity with celiac disease. What was the "strong medicine" she was given and what was it for? Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, like celiac disease, and often occurs in conjunction with celiac...
  3. Only if she drives and takes the car. Otherwise she has to guard it or gather up the broken bits.
  4. The list looks pretty good. Everyone is different in what they tolerate; the things from your main list that I have had to eliminate are beets and beans. Can you snack on almonds? If so they would be an emergency tide-me-over when you needed something pronto. Of course, all the cruciferous vegetables are harder to digest; chard would perhaps be the...
  5. If I were you I would take him strictly off gluten for a good three month trial. At 12 he is old enough to understand that this is being done for his health and he would be better off without all those starches for his diabetes anyway, I believe. If at the end of three months you have not seen any noticeable improvement in mouth sores, behavior, whatever...
  6. Do they have tasty dishes without soy sauce?? I never try going there because I would have no idea what to order. I stay clear of most ethnic cuisines for this reason. They all seem to have soy or nightshades or citrus....
  7. Don't move to Kiwiland then. Kiwi may be our national bird, but sheeps are our national animal. Give up lamb and you'd starve It's much worse than Greece even As a kid I was quite bloodthirsty watching my dad slit their little throats (Oh, Ghianit, don't cry!), but I always knew that it was not our pet lambs because he always kept those in a separate flock...
  8. Wow, you are dealing with some pretty heavy stuff right now. My heart goes out to you. Stay strong and I hope that all works out well for you. [[[[HUGS]]]]
  9. I would definitely try to make my own. There are loads of pizza crust recipes on here, or buy one of the packaged mixes - many of them are reviewed on the forum also with recommendations for which are the best. I have found most purchased pizza bases to be disappointing. Roda was even talking yesterday about grilled pizza here: Sounded wonderful...
  10. Wait for your nutrient level testing results - they may well show you the way. I got very depressed when I was low in B12 and folate. Of course, having your thyroid checked is also a good idea.
  11. Hi, and welcome to the forum. All the bolded parts of your post are suggestive of celiac disease/gluten intolerance. It's hard to tell about the possible dermatitis herpetiformis but a dermatologist is certainly the person to discuss it with. To test for it, she should take a biopsy of the skin adjacent to the lesion, not of the actual lesion itself...
  12. I don't know if you get any of the New Zealand Healtheries products in Oz? They make a fine ground cornmeal: www.healtheries.co.nz
  13. Could it be the sugar hit that is responsible for the hyperactivity?
  14. I have never heard of a procedure to look at the lesion itself. Common practice is to look for the antibodies in the skin adjacent to the lesion. Of course, some doctors don't know this and biopsy the lesion itself thinking this is the way to do it As for doing both, this is the first I ever heard of it. Jestgar might know if there are any changes observable...
  15. I assume you mean, when you say NO Iga levels, that your total serum Iga was negative and therefore your are not making antibodies. Therefore the blood tests do not work for you. Your pathology findings, as you found out were equivocal - could be early celiac, or something else. If you have not been taking NSAIDS, and have no known infection, then most...
  16. What do you mean by "feel inflamed"? Hot, achy, painful, irritated....?? It could be a gluten reaction, I don't know. Nightshades are considered to be highly inflammatory foods so if you have been overdoing tomatoes, eggplant and potatoes..... Again, I don't know.

    ARCHIVED Itching

I would suspect another food intolerance is causing the itching. I itched like crazy when I quit eating gluten. Soy turned out to be the main problem, potatoes the secondary problem. Keep a food diary and found out what you are eating a lot of (I had no idea how much soy I was eating) and eliminate that. If that doesn't work, go through all the major food...
  18. Goodeffins, no! I don't need any help like that Now I'm off to bed with dreams that my closet will restore itself overnight into things that fit, that I wear, and all the other stuph will mysteriously disappear by the time I awake . And also with the hope that this b***dy rain will cease and desist, although I hear tell there will be snow on them...
  19. Well, don't look to me for advice. I purposely didn't put a huge closet in this house because I was going to "pare down" as it were. Well, I have pared down the clothes that I actually wear, but when it comes to getting rid of the ones that I don't I'm totally useless. "Well, I'm going to lose weight, so I will need that!" and unwilling to try that on in...
  20. I did not reply to this before because I did not have the vibration/seizure type sensation, but two mornings in a row I woke up totally unable to move - freaked me out!! I just thought, well, I'll go back to sleep and see what happens, and when I awoke again it was okay. I thought it might be connected to a combination of meds I was taking - a muscle...
  21. Love the way the babies all pile on top of each other... like they did in the womb I used to love it when we had a litter of kittens - used to breed Siamese. The little one eating in the top pic looks a bit like a a bluepoint heritage.
  22. I just told her to go outside and play and next thang I knew, she was out plussing every Tom, Dick and Harry
  23. I certainly was not advocating smoking!!! I quit because I have COPD....
