    ARCHIVED Itching

After I stopped eating gluten I began to itch like crazy with a red rash on my chest. I discovered that this was caused by soy. After quitting eating soy, I still had residual itching, the source of which I could not identify for a long time. I eventually discovered it was caused by potatoes. Much later I developed additional itching, which I developed because...
  2. I have seen a product that contained wheat stems.
  3. Don't forget the jumping up and down part
  4. Thanks Lisa. I just added a new lectin to my list this week. Had eaten a couple of crackers that I hadn't previously eaten and suffered a horrible night thrashing around in agony; finally staggered downstairs at 5:30 a.m. and typed into my computer quinoa (the crackers contained this) and lectins, and bingo, up popped the high-lectin response. This is...
  5. TVNZ Channel 1 showed an approx seven minute clip of an interview with a gastroenterologist using a seven-year-old girl as his patient example. Symptoms, diagnosis, biopsy, difficulty of diet, gluten-free foods, etc., etc. The one point when my mouth dropped open a bit was when he was asked how come he did the biopsy after a positive blood test? No gold standard...
  6. Yep, ya can tell those are SillYaks - the one on the right still looks a bit bloated Which one of us is that? Probly me
  7. Good question. We have had a couple of discussions on this. See, for example: The cholecalciferol seems to be the preferred choice.
  8. We commonly expect we will feel much, much better as soon as we get the gluten out of our system. Unfortunately, it is not quite that easy. Gluten has done a lot of damage which has to heal. In the meantime, your gut is extraordinarily sensitive to many things, things that it may not be sensitive to later. Lactose is the common problem because gluten has...
  9. You will probably get enough natural sodium from your foods anyway. Most of the extra salt we use is just for taste, not for necessity.
  10. That's what I did, then I switched to once a month, with tablet D every day. Levels are good now.
  11. It doesn't take much to ruin a great company!
  12. I have the perforated kind of baguette bread pan and have not been willing to risk having pimples on my bread, so I use a baking paper liner . It came in handy one day when I let the bread overrise a little and it started slopping over the sides - I just used the ends of the paper to lift it up and mold it back into shape:lol:
  13. This sounds like a good time to start a food and symptom diary to see if you can correlate how you feel with what you eat. You probably should start off eliminating some of the major known allergens; for celiacs when they are first healing this would be lactose - your ability to digest that will probably come back later. Other intolerances often associated...
  14. I believe, really, that almost everyone who has intestinal damage from gluten has a leaky gut. That is part of the healing process, and until that heals you can expect to have some symptomatology. The healing time for each person is individual and depends on the work they do to cure it Some people do just fine with probiotics, digestive enzymes, and nutrient...
  15. I am getting concerned about dairy lectins when I go to the U.S. next month (for 3 months), getting away from the grass-fed (mostly) cows and eating product from cows where you don't know what they have been eating. I am thinking of taking some EasiYo packages over with me and making my own yogurt from them, as I do here, since that is my main dairy consumption...
  16. Hi, and welcome. I guess through all these years of tests and scans and whatever, nobody ever thought to give you the celiac blood panel? Before you start the diet, it might be worth a try to get a blood draw and have the full celiac panel: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase...
  17. Good to see you Judeeee. Get rid of all those boxes pronto - they are so burdensome (says she who still (6 years later) has 2 boxes in the house next door safely stowed away under tons of other stupphh) - dat's how she knows what a burden they are
  18. Hi, FeelingAlone, and welcome to the forum. That's why we're here, so no one need ever feel alone This particular thread of the forum has not been active in several years. I would suggest that you start a thread of our own, introducing yourself and your concerns and issues and you will probably get a lot better response when people start getting to...
  19. You could do a rice-based cereal with almond milk, sliced almonds, and (not too much) fruit (berries are good, even frozen), with a herbal tea. Or make a shake with almond milk, berries and, and... I dunno, whatever you can dream up. There is a rice-based protein powder in the U.S., don't know if it exists down here. Or you can eat dinner or lunch for...
  20. The tell-tale is the long-lasting purple scar, and the pain. This definitely sounds like DH, and DH is celiac diseae. There are many false negatives on the blood testing. And your positive response to the gluten free diet reinforces this self-diagnosis, especially if you have had no more red bumps lately.
  21. Ah, how to describe a biscuit.... Kind of like a scone, only round - a baking powder bread roll??? In the southern parts of the U.S. usually served with gravy. Biscuits an' gravy, t'is almost a staple it seems. I think you probably have to be raised in the south to really appreciate them (and really know how to do them ) Now this is a forriner's take on...
  22. Hubby and I are both gluten free - gluten free household. He went gluten free because he decided it would be easier. He did do some gluten cheating here and there and I was getting some cc (bringing home sourdough french bread and double dipping). Then he developed DH, so that settled that issue .
  23. Hi, and welcome to the forum. Good to have a doctor on board Most of us start a gluten free diet out of exasperation at the inability to get anyone to take us seriously and order the right tests. And then once down this path there doesn't seem to be any place to turn around which does not involve ludicrous suffering. We know what's wrong, we know how...
  24. Patti, it was RobbWolf who talked quite a bit about legumes and lectins - quite interesting and very un-Psilly. That's the way I am today. Also interesting (to me) I had just bookmarked a page of his yesterday from another poster here.
