  1. Gluten free baking is a real learning experience; a lot of trial and error, hopefully most trial I would recommend that you start out with some of the baking mixes, like Pamela's, Gluten Free Pantry, whatever strikes your fancy. Most people seem to start with Pamelas. That way you get used to the texture of gluten free batters (they are really not doughs...
  2. You can still have Redbridge and other gluten free beers while watching American Idol; each person has to find out for themselves whether they can handle distilled spirits - most can, but it is better to wait until you've healed a bit. The Redbridge beer is brewed using sorghum I believe. Looks like you will need to make your own rice noodle soup; a big pot...
  3. Here's a blogspot for you: Open Original Shared Link You should also try googling gluten, dairy and nightshade free recipes as there are other sites there. I can do dairy so I am no expert on dairy free cooking but the websites you find on google should help.
  4. I am a great flax seed oil fan. Firstly, I despise fish oil, and secondly, the flax seed oil mixes readily into my morning yogurt and I don't even know it's there. I guess I have an aversion to fish oil from all that enforced cod liver oil as a kid I can notice the difference in my body when I am not taking the flax seed oil (and in my joints). I also use...
  5. Hello VOZDUK, and welcome. I have always consumed enough Gas-EX to warrant holding shares in the company (gelcaps, not tablets which have gluten). Also drinking lots of water to flush out the system. Apart from that it is mostly a case of suffering through it. In the meantime you may want to read up on how to keep gluten out of your diet. You could start...
  6. I have been one who wonders about my degree of sensitivity. So far I have traced all my bad reactions to lectins, and avoiding them seems to mean no symptoms. I would get reactions to Rx meds with gluten, but until yesterday (after 2-1/2 yrs) no reactions to foods that I was aware of, not even from restaurants. I was getting pretty blase Yesterday I...
  7. While I'm no bread machine expert (make all mine the old-fashioned way ) I do believe that the gluten free setting would make a difference, unless the machine you have has a setting for only one rise. Regular bread calls for two risings while gluten-free bread only rises once (no punch-down).
  8. This is one of those ones that I think you will have to experiment with for yourself. I can't eat corn-fed beef, I have to have grass-fed, free range organic when I am stateside. I also try to avoid corn-fed chicken as much as possible which is pretty hard to do over there, although I have not noticed the same extreme effects from chicken as from beef. I...
  9. I love sorghum and use it in all my flour mixes. I also use quite a bit of buckwheat.
  10. No, it is definitely not okay for you to eat regular, gluten-containing bread. Why don't you look for some Udi's bread? I haven't eaten any personally, but most folks here rave about it as a gluten free bread, and you can continue your peanut butter sandwiches for breakfast Do you think you could go back and find that Garden of Life probiotic and try...
  11. I don't see any gluten jumping out of that list.
  12. Hi, Tareesar, and welcome back -- so good to see you drop by. And what is this nonsense about no feet on the table??? Of course you can put your feet on the table, that's what this place is for. In fact, if you can nae do that here, I'm going home...... Good to have all the mods back on board - I had a bit of a busy day yesterday: Dat's okay, jus t...
  13. After I went back and reread your initial post, I see that you were handling breads and spaghetti quite well; it was the introduction of quinoa that precipitated the problem. I would definitely advise eliminating that and avoiding as many grains as you can except for rice and whatever else is in your basic bread recipe. Gluten free grains are known to be...
  14. I know, honey, I know!. It is so frustrating having to figure things out for yourself, especially when you are not feeling your best. Can you go back to a really, really basic diet, excluding any grains for now, especially the gluten substitute grains because a lot of us have problems when we start subbing in these different grains. Without having your...
  15. Don't hate being you Just accept that your body reacts differently from other peoples' and that what applies to them does not necessarily apply to you. I have had adverse reactions to things that were supposed to help me too. Like sublingual B12 - it made me break out in acne which I had never had in my life before. Another supplement I took gave me this...
  16. Yep, we Down Under folks have to be a lot more careful than statesiders
  17. Have they checked all his vitamin and mineral levels? because sometimes that bruising indicates deficiencies. I used to get it all over my hands and forearms before my testing and supplementation program.
  18. It would be a good start just to eliminate soy from the ingredients list; you can worry about the "processed on lines..." when you get home, I would think. Some are more sensitive than others to foods that are processed on shared lines - you will have to find out for yourself where you stand on this issue.
  19. The first question that comes to mind is how are you managing your gluten free eating with all that gluten around? Do you have your own dedicated gluten free areas of pantry and refrigerator, your own tub of spread, your own jars of PB and jams, or are you sharing them with others? Sharing is impossible because putting a gluteny knife in a jar will contaminate...
  20. Soy came after gluten for me too, I think because so many gluten free processed foods contain soy.
  21. For what it's worth, I have pretty much determined that my weird heart problems are caused by lectins in foods, including tachycardia, early and late beats, skipped beats, etc. As long as I avoid high-lectin containing foods (my intolerances are nightshades, legumes, soy, corn - gluten, of course - peanuts, and at one point citric acid) the symptoms go...
  22. Yes I have, and at about the same time. I was just really low, lethargic, depressed, not functioning well. But I also hadn't had my nutrient levels checked. I was low in D, B12, and folate. Once I got on a good supplementation program I perked right up. By all means get your levels checked, and include thyroid function too, as well as ferritin.
  23. And the dishwasher would play havoc with the wood anyway
  24. My reactions to corn are variable too. But since I never know how I will react I avoid it all (well, except for some cornstarch in baking, which doesn't seem to bother me at all )
  25. Aw, Pads, that is so sweet A true love match for sure Me, I need my space Clay used to be away a couple of nights a week pre-retirement, and that was just poifect for me. Since retirement this "togetherness" ALL THE TIME! gets a big much for me. Don't fence me in I go on strike! No housework, no cooking or dishes or laundry...
