  1. Lin k to a Biocard posting:
  2. But is it soy free?? I've always wondered!
  3. Sweet rice flour is also called, strangely enough, glutinous rice flour or sticky rice flour, since it is made from the "sticky" variety of rice.
  4. There are posters on here, especially Canadians, who have used Biocard. But really all it tells you is you are making antibodies. They recommend that a doctor confirm the diagnosis. I don't know how sensitive it is, i.e., what levels of antibodies need to be present for a positive test. Even with medical blood testing, unless the antibodies reach a certain...
  5. Well, the first thing is to stop feeling like a hypochondriac. Doctors tend to do that to you - but you know your body and what you are describing sounds like something real. If you really cannot afford to have the blood test, or the full enterolab test, I wish you would just trust your instincts and eliminate the gluten and see what happens. Can...
  6. My guess is that that meant there was inflammation present, which is indicative also of early celiac damage. They really do want your villi to be totally flattened in order to say, "Yep, that's celiac."
  7. Your rash does sound like a typical DH pattern. They tend to be a deep red, with blisters that burst, both intensely itchy and hurting, and fade to a purple then white scar over time. It is such a shame they did not think of DH before, and did not tell you to continue eating gluten up until the biopsy (endoscopy and DH). It could have saved you much grief...
  8. It's like celiac disease - you didn't get there in a day, and it's going to take a while to get back where you'd like to be. You can't just snap your fingers, or wrinkle your nose like in "Bewitched" and Presto!, everything's hunky dory. Sounds like it's starting out well though And if he's open to your therapist's ideas, maybe he doesn't need one of his...
  9. Hi, Lecia, and welcome to the forum. I do feel for you, it is a frustrating position to be in, and I wish it were not so common When you say that the rash showed high esinophils, does that mean that they biopsied the rash itself, rather than adjacent to it as you would for DH? Perhaps you could post all your test results here (with the lab...
  10. I am one who never suffered from acne in my life before going gluten free. I had two break-outs, one on cheeks and one on my forehead, both times from supplements. The first was a B12 sublingual and I still haven't figured out what bothered me with that, and the second was an anthocyanin supplement. With the B12 it was overnight; with the anthocyanins...
  11. See, that's what happens when you have to take out the smileys - peeps are not quite sure whether you are really kidding. I was just playing it for laffs, being phlippant, t'is my mood today. I knew you would be a wonderphul mom - who was it, Harry Harlow?? did the study about motherless mothers, and how they is the best moms of all. Me, I was too afraid...
  12. They can also be attributed to celiac, as can your thyroid problems in the first place.
  13. Amen to that; thinking of you, T My "book" would nae be a pitcher book, since I've ne'er posted a picture (successfully ) in me life. T'would be full of dense, boring text and no one would ever bovver to read it What a poifect excuse it is, too. I must use dat one. I really loved Jess's kitty po-em. Only...
  14. Any time you have an inflamed small intestine you have an unhappy gut. Your doctor may be right; with a little more exposure to gluten you could well test positive. However, you must bear in mind that many people give false negative biopsy results, and your inflammation may not progress to the full celiac villous damage. I would be interested in knowing...
  15. We had a program here (I might have posted about this before, if so, sorry) called New Zealand's best Home Cook, and the winning contestant throughout the series baked mostly gluten free, and won the final with two gluten free cakes, a pear upside down cake, and a chocolate cake. Yeah for gluten free!
  16. Buy some Tinkyada pasta and surprise him!
  17. 'Fraid so, but not quite as bad as ciggies or that white powder stuff I speak as someone who didn't have a lot of problem with gluten, but almost d.i.e.d without the ciggies (but would have died with them!) Some people won't even quit ciggies to save their lives so, no, there may not be a lot of hope for your dad. unless you can make him see how much...
  18. My psosriasis has never bled and believe me I have scratched at it plenty. The closeup shows more discrete white bumps rather than scales. I think he should see a dermatologist for eval.

  20. There is a high degree of contamination with oats. Often they are harvested with the same equipment as wheat, stored in the same silos as wheat, and/or transported with the same equipment as wheat. But as was previously stated, even if the oats are certified gluten free and have been carefully handled, a certain percentage of celiacs will still react to...
  21. From what I have read and understand (no citations to back up this opinion) the gluten in wheat has been greatly hydbridized and concentrated. The "winter" wheat in particular, which makes the breadflour wheat, or hard wheat, has a much higher gluten content, which is why it is used for bread - to give it the elasticity and create the puffed up Wonder Bread...
  22. Hi, and welcome to the forum. Of all the tests performed, the ttg is the most specific for celiac disease. I would agree that you most probably have it. Not everyone has low nutrient levels; that is why it is always suggested that levels be checked before supplementation. Also, it takes a while to draw down all the B12 stores in the body. Even though...
  23. There is an extremely strong relationship between the two. You will find thousands of people on this forum with thyroid problems; I am one of them, although mine is fortunately minor. I had to talk my doctor into prescribing a low dose of thyroid medication for me because even though I tested normal, I was always freezing cold, wearing sweaters in the middle...
  24. DH is dermatitis herpetiformis, the skin manifestion of celiac disease.
