ARCHIVED Help! Is It Celiac, Anyone Like Me?
mushroom replied to Bedbug's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Your first line says it all - these are all symptoms of gluten intolerance/celiac disease. You don't mention if you have ever been tested for celiac, but if you haven't you should be. Your son's celiac disease came via genes from either his mother or father (or both). That means that it is quite logical for one of you to express the disease. If you have been... -

Well, I have my own theories that not too many others seem to subscribe to that it is a lectin problem . Have been talking to veggienft on another forum, and listening to all his stuff about cytokine storms which sounds like eggzactly what happens when those nasty lectins invade But I have shut the gate and put triple locks on it and reinforced it with... -

Me too! It's like the legumes sit around planning a chance to get inside my body and create havoc, and once they make it in, all HAIL breaks loose!!! -
Thanks, RiceGuy, for providing this scary information. Certainly reinforces the removal of soy, corn and canola from my pantry.

Lisa, have you tried her on almond milk? Or Lactaid (lactose free) milk? What about yogurt? If she is just lactose intolerant these should be okay for her. On the other hand, if it is all dairy (casein), then I don't think even A2 would work. The almond milk (which is delicious) should work for her if you can get her to try it. Maybe first make it into a...

Thanks everyone, for your replies. I have given her the link to this forum page so she can see for herself what you all have to say. Apparently, the medical clinic has called to set up an appt. regarding the results. -
ARCHIVED Pre-Diagnosis
mushroom replied to Aries's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A positive result means that (in the blood) there were sufficient antibodies to meet the test threshold level (they have a normal range), and in the biopsy a positive means that damage to the small intestine was found indicative of celiac disease (usually atrophy of the villi). Even without a positive diagnosis you can still give the gluten free diet a... -
ARCHIVED Pre-Diagnosis
mushroom replied to Aries's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Misdiagnosis usually means that the person doing the testing didn't even think to test for celiac disease. The usual misdiagnosis for celiac is IBS which we here call "I'm Basically Stumped" because it's such a garbage can diagnosis. But WHY is the bowel irritable, Doctor? There is also an incidence of about 20% false negatives on the blood testing, and the... -

That's true. There's room in ANY kitchen for one. I saw them being used on Ready, Steady, Cook, a British program, and said I gotta have one of those. I have a Braun. It is a mini-processor (chops nuts and stuff like that), then you take the handle part off and attach the blending wand or a whisk. They are really cool. -
ARCHIVED Lactose Intolerance
mushroom replied to lucia's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you had a positive intestinal biopsy (villi damaged) then lactose intolerance is pretty much guaranteed until the villi heal - because the lactase to digest it is made at the tips of the villi. I was intolerant to milk, cream, ice cream, frozen yogurt, but could eat butter (most lactose removed - all butterfat (lol)), cheese, sour cream, yogurt (all the... -

It should work. Our cat chows down on her grass every day. but since she is a fluffy she really needs it or she gets FURRR balls. Gack!!! We even have two bowls and interchange them - when one gets a bit tatty (or unwatered). -
ARCHIVED Can Someone Comment On Thyroid Tests?

Hi all. This request made on behalf of a friend who is constantly cold, and who I suggested have her thyroid levels retested. She has been on low dose levothyroxine for a long time without retesting. These are her results: Free T4 15.3 (range 10.0 to 24.0) TSH 6.21 (range 0.40 to 4.00) High Free T3 1.9 (2.5 - 6.0) LowLow THYROID FUNCTION MASTER... -
ARCHIVED How To Know If You Have Leaky Gut?
mushroom replied to Lisa79's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Antibiotics will play havoc with your gut regardless of the use of probiotics, unfortunately. They can limit the damage, but in an already damaged gut it is hard to keep things in balance. Since it seems like you can do dairy, eat tons of yogurt (plain yogurt, not the sugared up kind), keep up the probiotics and wait and see. It could well be that once you... -

I'm so sorry about this situation. It is like your husband and your daughter are on one side of the valley, you on the other, and there is this wide river that divides you. I agree that it would be a wonderful father/daughter opportunity (I never had any one-on-one time with either of my parents), and it would be painful for you to have to sit there watching... -

I do not have personal experience with DH; hubby has it, and from his and the other pics I have seen, this does not look like DH. Does it leave scars ? Does it turn purple? Does it form pustules that break open? These are the general characteristics of DH. Probably not exclusively, but generally. -

ARCHIVED Does Milk Make Gluten Intolerance Worse?
mushroom replied to Glutenfreenoobie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You just have to make sure that raw milk has been tested for bovine tuberculosis. I agree - when we moved from milking our own cows on the farm, to city pasteurized milk, it was awful Once it was homogenized it was even worse. I wouldn't drink it. I get glutened if someone toasts gluten bread in my toaster - I will no longer permit it - not even my sister...
