Well, springtime is a notorious allergy season for anything that blooms and produce pollens in spring. I would doubt that it would be wheat because harvest season is surely not upon you yet when wheat could be flying in the air. Do they grow wheat in the Shasta region? What else grows nearby you that could be producing allergens at this time of year??

I am wondering if you have ever had other allergies in your life, not just to foods but to pollens, cats, whatever??? Not saying that it is caused by anything like this but some people are more predisposed to a massive histamine response than others. It could be that you have built up an intolerance to something else, something that has never bothered you...

ARCHIVED Can I Be Gluten Intolerant And Not Have Celiac Disease?
mushroom replied to Pig Daddy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Dr. Rodney Ford, New Zealand's Mr. Celiac. believes that celiacs are a very small minority of those with gluten intolerance. I myself believe that you become celiac after you have been gluten intolerant and gluten eating for long enough (although there are the rarer celiacs who will never test positive no matter how long they eat gluten). -
ARCHIVED So What Exactly Is 'normal'?
mushroom replied to concernedmamma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is possible that the actual quantity of stool will diminish as his gut heals and he starts absorbing nutrients better. If most of what he is eating is passing through and no being taken in by the body, that could account for a larger mass of stool. Just a thought. -

Oh, I do feel for you. Having to go back on gluten after being gluten free is awful!!! I wonder if the doctors realize just what they are asking?? And how come they only want to test you AFTER you are gluten free, not before when you are complaining?? Okay, rhetorical question, sorry. But it makes me so mad. If the diagnosis is important to you, I guess...

Well, I think Connie took it a little too far, because of course that would exclude meat since I don't think too many of us go around butchering our own animals (although we may catch and fillet our fish ). But she had the idea correct; it is anything that man hasn't messed with and added stuff to that nature didn't put there in the first place. If you buy... -
ARCHIVED A Question From A Rookie
mushroom replied to conniebky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They were not related to blood sugar, Connie. They came (come) about because of such intense bloating placing pressure on the vagus nerve (they call it vasovagal syncrope). If I am unable to release the bloat I pass out. I used to think it was corn that caused it, now I find that it is caused by all lectins which are specific components of some proteins.... -
ARCHIVED Doc Tomorrow - Which Tests To Request?
mushroom replied to Chirpy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can count yourself lucky that your doctor actually ran the control test; many of them don't Just a slight correction to your wording - your other tests should be a true indicator of whether or not you have diagnosable celiac disease. It is still possible to test negative on the tests and be intolerant of gluten, unfortunately; even to be celiac... -

How many doctors did you go through Couldn't count How many tests did you have? NONE!! Just recommendations to see a psychiatrist. How frustrated were you? Very Did you think they'd never ever figure it out? Yes Was it a really bad roller coaster trip? Not really, pretty constant, except for the fainting in embarrassing... -
ARCHIVED Doc Tomorrow - Which Tests To Request?
mushroom replied to Chirpy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This looks like the total serum IGA test, which is run as a control for the other tests to see if you are an antibody maker (some people have very low antibody levels). Yours are in the normal range, so it means that the results of the other tests when they come back should be valid. If the total serum IGA is low, then it invalidates the other results. -

ARCHIVED Unsure Of What To Do..
mushroom replied to kannne's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The stool test can tell you a lot, so it might be worth a bit of suffering to have it done. Just lay off the foods that normally set you off, like the chicken skin - you really don't need that anyway, use herbs and spices to give it good flavor. Eat sparingly so you don't over load your system and give it easy to digest foods, no cruciferous vegetables, no... -

All of the above. Eat them any way you can get them, and as often as you can. Black, green, stuffed, unstuffed, machts nicht, just go for them. My favorites are kalamata, in a feta based salad. -

ARCHIVED If You Were Me, What Would You Do?
mushroom replied to mamarie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Since all your testing is complete, I would give the gluten free diet a strict three-month trial. Most doctors are under the impression that if you do not test positive for celiac disease, gluten will not harm you. They are wrong and misinformed. Non-celiac gluten intolerance can be just as damaging to the body as celiac disease. You have nothing to lose... -
ARCHIVED Yum, The Taste Of Real Food!
mushroom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Omg, I have just had an almost orgasmic experience with food Yesterday in the store I saw a new brand of yogurt (yoghurt), Clearwater's Cream Top Yoghurt, "using only organic milk from the family farm." It WAS expensive, but when I read the label I said, I've got to try this. It said "Totally natural, gluten free and non-homogenised" It also said that... -

Nah, it means she wants you to reassure her that her a** is not fat I think it would be right proper to call an Aussie dog "Kiwi". They would HATE it, and we do like to stir 'em up -

As I understand it, the antibodies are not found in the lesion itself, but in the skin adjacent to it. You would only be able to see the antibodies in a lab - what they were looking for was something else. I have heard of another doctor doing this and only doing the biopsy adjacent if he "saw" something from the lesion. -
I am allergic to paper tape - no idea what kind of adhesive they put on it. I once had a breast biopsy where the doc didn't suture me at all, just glued me back together with paper tape all over my breast (back before they started using surgical glue). It itched like the dickens and I eventually developed hives all over my body from that damned tape. Never...
