  1. I tested negative on the RA test (called RA sero-negative), but I certainly have it. I read, however, that those with psoriatic arthritis often test negative. My ESR was through the roof, and only went down after a year on Humira. Sadly the gluten free diet did nothing for my arthritis, psoriasis or ESR . Sorry to be the voice of gloom
  2. My sub prime loaves usually end up as croutons, bread crumbs or squirrel food, depending on their degree of subprimeness And yes, I too (actually on all my loaves) bake for another five minutes out of the pan because I love crustiness (must be why I have naturally curly hair )
  3. I avoid all vodkas, especially the potato brands Tanqueray gin, shaken, but agree - two olives (small ones) - dh calls it a martunus
  4. Interesting site on nightshade reactions. First time I have heard mention of my symptoms, which are, amongst others, erratic heart beat. I thought I was a freak
  5. How is your son doing with his concentration issues? Have you tried him on gluten free too??
  6. Me too! Read the Dragon Tattoo while in ICU - gave me summat to do besides flutter and no, I didn't mind the ending that much. Am halfway through The Girl Who Played with Fire, but like you, have been doing my duties!! on the QT. Ye gods, Rayshellle, boarders who don't pay board OR earn their keep Is this some kind of of charity you're operating,...
  7. Well I had already made the recipe subbing brown rice flour for the potato starch before I saw your post, halfrunner. It turned out pretty good, although I was really unsure about the amount water because the dough kept clinging to the paddle of my Kitchen Aid Mixer. And because our humidity is really low here - about 13% at that time - I added the whole...
  8. Welcome (again ) to the world of gluten intolerance. When we feel good we can often forget how badly we felt before. You have just been reminded. I think it's a good idea to make the move your day for removing gluten - nothing with gluten goes into your new apartment - ever!! Of course that doesn't mean you should go out and buy chicken fingers tonight ...
  9. I knew I had a problem with corn long before I realized about the gluten - also soy came before gluten But the soy and corn reactions have become worse.
  10. First of all, welcome to the forum. No, you are definitely not crazy; in fact it sounds like you are where you belong, and we consider this to be the "sane" asylum. If you are not celiac, you definitely sound gluten intolerant, which in most respects is the same thing except you don't show positive on the celiac testing. But that testing also has at...
  11. It's unfortunate that it takes quite a bit of trial and error with the lectin problem to get it sorted. I didn't realize I was nightshade intolerant until I decided not to eat them because of my psoriatic arthritis, since nightshades are known to be inflammatory. Once I eliminated them, just like gluten I started reacting more strongly to them. I had eliminated...
  12. Heck, I'd even taken 1989! Bottoms up!
  13. Coconut Aminos by Coconut Secret, contains Organic Coconut Sap aged and blended with Mineral Rich Seasalt, unquote. Made in the Philippines, sold by Whole Foods. Haven't tried it yet.
  14. I have the same problem in New Zealand, you know, the Commonwealth and all that stuff
  15. Going gluten free is not like flicking a light switch. The gluten has done damage to your body if you are celiac or gluten intolerant, and that damage has to heal before you feel 100% better. You should notice a gradual improvement as time goes by, significant improvement after 1-2 months, but depending on how much damage, full healing can take up to two...
  16. I am 2.5 years gluten (and now many other things) free with absolutely no testing of any kind. Well, wait, I did have a stool/saliva test about six months after going gluten-free, just to check for parasites, candida, etc. My body was telling me what it did not want me to eat, and I obey. I just was not listening well all those other years. You sound...
  17. I got all excited, halfrunner, when I saw "a recipe for Buckwheat Bread" and then I saw the potato starch . However, I am going to try making it with buckwheat and rice flour only and see what happens. My gluten-free bakery at home bakes batches of buckwheat bread for me omitting the potato starch and it is hard to tell the difference so dh says, although...
  18. I do this sometimes. I buy from a reliable bulk bin store and come home with a plastic bag of white powder, which I put in the pantry until the appropriate container becomes empty. But by that time, which is the appropriate container?? So I taste what's in the bag and then try white rice, or tapioca, or whatever.....Now I have learned and write in black...
  19. Twp years after dropping soy I had to toss all legumes, even including green beans and green peas. Bummer! Mind you, I had not been consuming many legumes other than the green beans and peas for quite a wile Your mileage may vary.
  20. OMG, what an absolutely precious pup. Do it, Em. T'is not disrespectful of Charles, more a token of how much you miss him.
  21. I, too, would be inclined to try avoiding soy for a while. I use TJ's hemp protein powder in my smoothies. There are other protein powders out there too that do not contain soy.
  22. Hey, SGWHiskers, Congratulations!! yourself.
  23. The one question that comes to mind is whether you have been tested for vitamin and mineral deficiencies, iron and thyroid. These are all problems for those of us who have had malabsorption problems for a long tiime. You need to check your levels of Vit D, B12, folate, K, potassium, zinc, calcium, ferritin, TSH and free T3 and T4 (thyroid) at the minimum...
  24. I will sometimes have trouble breathing after a glutening, but it is usually caused by bloating which creates pressure on the heart and lungs, espeically when lying down.
  25. Oh, doesn't that just get you!! I saw Americans flocking to McDonalds in Florence of all places. With all the great food in Tuscany, why would you do that??? And a saw a British couple insist on ordering fish and chips in a small sidewalk restaurant in Pisa that made the most fabuloso pizzas . But of course my husband's aunt, who used to travel a lot, used...
