  1. I think you probably do have a ghost in your house Count me in the realm of believers, having lived in a 'ghostly' house myself. (twice, in fact - two of them) and no, it wasn't just me either what noticed it. How old is your house and do you know any of its history? What has happened in the house previously usually seems to account for the ghostly...
  2. I am so sorry you are feeling so down today, Shauna. And I do understand. Vent away! It is tempting sometimes to look back to the good (bad) ole days when we were blissfully (or not so blissfullly) killing ourselves with gluten and see them as not so bad after all, because usually the only bubble we were living in was one that was chained to a toilet...
  3. I also was taking 50,000 iu weekly, but am down to monthly now. D deficiency is unfortunately very common amongst celiacs. So is osteoporosis
  4. This was the major reason I had to vacate California - not the ivy but the oak!! We had an acre with quite a bit of woods and my kitty would wallow in it and then come and sit on my lap (me in shorts!). I became deathly allergic to it, would break out in systemic hives, and had so much prednisone over the years became intolerant of that too! Only stinging...
  5. In the event your bloodwork is positive your doctor may recommend an endoscopy with biopsy. If you can hang on eating gluten until then I would probably do it, having come this far, unless he can't get you in for another two or three months in which case the additional torture (and damage) is probably not worthwhile in my book.
  6. Have you tried dried breadcrumbs and egg? I make dried breadcrumbs out of my bread failures
  7. Pseriously, though, there is such a place on the Mendocino coast, and I had some phoolish phriends desperate enough to try it - they did not stay the whole night
  8. You have to be willing to listen to what your body is telling you, in addition to what your doctor is telling you. Your doctor can only tell you what his tests show (well, some are willing to think outside the body, but most stay within the testing box). You know what you live with every day and you know something is seriously wrong. From what you say it...
  9. Not a complete answer I know, but from a quick google search: hyper
  10. Probly the same thing as "Only a fool spends the night at a place call 'Fools Rush Inn'.
  11. Not unless they are gluten free beers, of which there are several including Redbridge.
  12. The only experience I have with seizures is with my brother. He developed them late in life, and we come from a suspected total celiac family, although none of us has been tested. My sister and I are gluten free and my sister's daughter is diagnosed celiac. My brother was born with eczema all over his body, always had multiple issues including failure to...
  13. I personally think Seattle is permanently set to the wash and wear cycle (on a cold water wash with maximum rinses)
  14. Obviously you are going to have to tailor your elimination diet to your own needs. You are right that the very basic suggestion is usually lamb, rice, applesauce. You could start with a mild white fish, rice and applesauce if you wanted to start that basic, but it is normally not necessary to go quite that far. Cooked carrots are generally well tolerated...
  15. But how do you keep the mildew from your armpits the rest of the year?
  16. Milk is comprised mainly of sugar (lactose) and protein (casein). You can be intolerant of lactose and not casein, because the part of your gut that digests the lactose is one of the first areas to be destroyed by gluten and takes a while to grow back. To test whether you are lactose or casein intolerant, try (on different days) having some butter or hard...
  17. Hello and welcome to the board. You don't have to be a diagnosed celiac in order to suffer terrible symptoms from gluten. Also, the testing is not totally reliable; there is about a 20% error rate on both the blood testing and biopsy. Some people who test negative initially eventually go on to test positive later. Others have been diagnosed based on...
  18. That;s what I do, only grass-fed; corn-fed beef destroys me
  19. Oh damn, what an absolutely revolting prospect I'm so sorry.
  20. Steady there, David; I think she's a cupboard lover P.S. I filed your recipe
  21. Bev, I just went back and read about Kurt. Gosh, that is scary sstuphh - hpe he is doing just fine now. Whaddya mean, it moved out of place today???? that does not sound like a good thing to be happening! How's it going to heal??? I think you need to tell the doc that it is not immobilized On a lighter note, glad to find I'm not the only...
  22. I am assuming he did either a CRP or an ESR blood test on you - both of those test for inflammation. Were those negative? I am sero-negative with psoriatic arthritis (which often tests sero-negative). And yes, there is a positive connection between RA and celiac. Your rheumatologist is more up-to-date than mine, who has not heard of this link....
  23. I believe that most joint problems that celiacs experience are relieved by the gluten free diet. I am not sure, but I believe most of these people are never tested for RA. some like me test sero-negative, some do have full-blown RA whose symptoms moderate (like Ravenwoodglass) but whose joints have already been damaged too much to fully recover. The common...
  24. First off, welcome to the forum. What testing have you had done for your DH? Did they do a biopsy of clear skin next to an active lesion? This is the most accurate way to diagnose DH and if it is positive, you don't need an endoscopic biopsy - you are a celiac. If they biopsy the lesion itself it will not show positive. Or did you have the blood tests...
  25. The lectins in corn may also rise up and bite you - again, very little research on lectins.
