  1. Smoking held symptoms at bay for me until I quit at 29. Used to be able to eat anything until then - but suddenly, BINGO, problems all over the place
  2. Yeah, we used to add extra gluten to bread too, back in the days before it became evil
  3. Plus me Bunnie!! - I wanna be plussed again - feels so goooood!
  4. Your doctor can do a blood test called a celiac panel to check for gluten antibodies in your bloodstream. Normally, if this test shows a positive result you will be referred to a GI doc who will perform an endoscopy and take tissue samples from your small intestine to check for damage. Do be aware that you must continue to eat gluten until the testing...
  5. If she is double DQ8, it means she has two copies of the gene, that is she got one from you and one from her dad. The fact of having double celiac genes means nothing in relationship to her symptoms except that she has a great likelihood to have celiac disease. That she got one from each of you means that you and her dad have a predisposition to develop celiac...
  6. I am sorry to say that the necessity for avoiding gluten is the same whether or not you test positive for celiac disease. As you will have read on here (take Ravenwoodglass as an example), there are those who never do test positive for celiac disease but have all the symptoms and disastrous consequences just the same. If you are intolerant of gluten you are...
  7. I'm a Type A, and he sure didn't get it right for me
  8. There are plenty of good-tasting milks out there - rice (but not Rice Dream - it has gluten), almond, hemp. I would personally probably not do soy at this point until you find out if this is a problem too. Start off by putting it on his cereal and get him used to the taste.
  9. Browsing around, I found the following website, Nutri Notes, which to me gave a very succinct description of how we get leaky gut, what it causes, and what we can do about it. I cannot get this to work as a link, but if you cut and paste this into the URL box it works: Open Original Shared Link Okay, I think it does work now.
  10. O M G  Sure hope it was a round bottle, and not a square one... .
  11. I was doing an idle time scan of the brain for ideas for pizza saucing, (non-tomato) and came up with the idea of a tapenade. Didn't have any so made some from a recipe on da web, and it made a very tasty pizza. Also good for dipping with my rice crackers now that hummus is out By the way, "lemonade" chilli has become one of Clay's staples , and much...
  12. The celiac panel of blood tests normally is considered to be Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA Recently they have been doing a test called DGP (Deaminated Gliadin Peptides) also. It all depends on which doctor you go to what is considered "the normal panel...
  13. Unfortunately, most of the doctors out there in medical land are perfectly content to let the patient "live" with a diagnosis of IBS, if living is what you call it Most of their patients do not believe that IBS is a medical diagnosis - if my bowel is irritable doc, WHY is it irritable? What is making it irritable? It didn't just decide one day, I am...
  14. Hi, and welcome to the board. My best answer to your question goes like this: Preamble: Many of us have had vague (or slightly more than vague ) symptoms for 10, 20, 30 years or more. Have reported these to doctors and been told variously that: A/ it was all in our heads, B/ we had IBS, C/ that we had fibromyalgia, or go through the rest of the...
  15. Make him/her squirm
  16. I would try the sorghum since all the other flours you have are starches and the addition of the fava bean/sorghum would give more body and texture.
  17. My rise varies greatly by recipe. My french bread ends up twice the size, some almost twice the size, but never anything over twice the size. Some don't rise very much at all
  18. The reason I haven't done it, Lori, is that I couldn't imagine how I could do it You can't eat too many fruits, I get easily bored with vegetables, and too much meat (and I am I great meat eater) just puts me off. Without the carbs I am lost
  19. Most of our guys don't wear bras But they could probably use anuffer kind of cup considering the way these peeps play. And yep, definitely recreational reading or any other recreational kind of activity.....
  20. That kind of schedule is okay on a short-term basis, but as a way of life... no wonder you are stressed. Do you at least get to eat breakfast and do your homework on the ferry? Relax with a cocktail on the way home? Perhaps if you could cut back a bit on the exercise schedule, then you wouldn't have to work off all those cookies, ice cream and pretzels because...
  21. The only problem I have is how MANY flours I have . All the individual flours, a couple of pre-mixed personal blends, all those canisters.... Guar gum, xanthan gum, baking soda and powder, gelatin, ascrobic acid....Glad I have a big pantry Just freed up a canister because I am ditching quinoa - BAD reaction to some quinoa crackers. Although I never used...
  22. Most of my bread recipes (in fact, I think all that I regularly use) call for at least one teaspoon of cider vinegar. I think I would put it in even if the recipe didn't call for it
  23. Yeah, even lil ole New Zealand qualified for the Cup this time around, the last team to make it in, I think . Of course, we is holding high hopes for them , especiially since the vice-captain (do they akshually NEED a captain for that??) has fractured his shoulder last week But that's all right because they have screwed it back together with three screws...
