  1. Hi, and welcome. While I am not an expert on blood testing, your husband's doctor did not perform the full panel, which consists of: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Total Serum IgA The total serum IgA is performed as a check because if that is low it can invalidate...
  2. We all grieve the loss of gluten from our diets, and anger is a normal part of the grieving process as you know. You must just encourage her and be supportive. It really does take a while for the gut to heal, and until such time she will continue to experience setbacks and recurrence of symptoms sometimes. Perhaps gluten is sneaking in somewhere, she may...
  3. My hubby and I are doing our best to eliminate all lectins after reading your (or someone else's?) original post about lectins and after doing some online research. I was already soy free and nightshade free, and seem to have naturally gravitated (since going gluten free) to foods that do not contain lectins anyway, so it is not that difficult. Just meant...
  4. Pondering the question, I think it highly unllkely a lactose intolerance would "develop" after you eliminated gluten. Since the lactase for milk sugar digestion is produced at the tips of the villi, and your villi were flattened, I can't see how you could be digesting a lot of lactose beforehand. Maybe the villous problem was only very patchy, but even...
  5. Am not sufficiently familiar with US labeling laws to answer about dextrin; think it's okay. Mostly Canada seems to follow USA. As far as "processed in a facility that also handles" (whatever your particular intolerance may be, including wheat), this is something that we all have to experiment with for ourselves. Some of us are much more sensitive to...
  6. If you have had all your nutrient levels tested and are not deficient in anything, then it is probably just a waiting game, giving the gut time to heal. Rest is the best healer of all, up to a point, and you have not passed that point yet. On the other hand, if you have not checked for deficiencies, such as Vitamins B12, D, folate, K, and minerals such...
  7. For those newbies still experiencing bad gas, you are not alone. After two years, I am again fighting it. Like squirrelflight, I am avoiding lectins (was already soy and nightshade free), and I am again taking digestive enzymes, and I went to my doctor and talked about it, and she said since it was mainly happening at night when I was lying down, it could...
  8. I am confused: I thought I read the Betty Crocker mixes had soy??? Or maybe it was potato starch??? I just know I crossed them off
  9. I had bloating and gas pains and cramping from lactose, long before I was aware of any gluten problem. Try giving up lactose or all dairy and see if it makes a difference.
  10. If your friend's coworker truly has celiac disease, she is damaging her body in other ways than getting sick by eating gluten. Since it is an autoimmune response she is creating antibodies that may cause many other different kinds of negative effects on her body. Unfortunately, the folks who don't get immediate gastro symptoms from gluten can do enormous...
  11. The last time I had acute bronchitis my (substitute) doctor wanted me to take prednisone for it. I told him I don't do prednisone (am intolerant of it) but he insisted that if I went to the ER that's what they would give. I told him, well they may give it but I won't take it. It is gluten free, but I believe it can contain corn. It supposedly really calms...
  12. It would be helpful to know if you have any other symptoms other than the canker sores. What are your doctors doing for your duodenal ulcer? Yes, other food intolerances are a possibility; do you avoid anything other than gluten? And do you keep a food diary? Are you on any other medications? Methotrexate gave me apthous ulcers in the mouth.
  13. None of us need moosic; we all make our own!!!
  14. How did I miss that?? Well done!!
  15. I've had it in one ear only for over two years now, ever since I had six-week bout of coughing flu
  16. Yeah, she is amazing. Just on Thursday she was talking about buying her granddaughter's car she left behind when she went back to CA. I said, Maary, what would you do with it? She (defensively): I've got the money! I CAN DRIVE!!! Me, Yeah, I'm sure you can, but safely? legally? She: Welllll, I don't have a license--do you think they would give me...
  17. It might be time for a visit to an endocrinologist. You need to get all your systems back into "whack"
  18. I would call your local Celiac Society and ask for recommendations. Also, check out the Doctors thread here on the forum. Someone else may have asked this question for the Bay Area, or in the Cut the Chase thread may have recommended someone. Or you could pose your question in that thread under the title "Looking for Knowledgeable Celiac GI in Bay Area...
  19. Now you's just showing off a bit too much, Em Making the rest of us feel like simpletons....Wellll, if the cap fits, I guess.... Psoozzle, so glad you went and had a fab time like we said you would. My, how the other half lives....heated marble floors OUTSIDE indeed!! Ah, Miss Mary is a book in herself. Would fit right into Readers Disgust...
  20. Foods can be sneaky. You can have some one day and be absolutely fine with it. But eat it again the next day and your body says, Okay, that's too much. A little bit I can handle, but not that much. That's what makes this food intolerance thing so hard. You may have to say no to nightshades altogether for a while and see how you do, though believe me...
  21. I personally see it as just a basic issue of respect for others. I am sure they are not complaining just to make your life miserable, they are complaining because they find it offensive. I agree with the "eat cold fish at work" school, or save it for home; there are plenty of things you can find to take to work that will not be offensive. If you show them...
  22. Be sure to check all your medications and OTC supplements for gluten too. The meds will not tell you on the bottle, you will have to check online or with the pharmacist (or the manufacturer if you know it) for that information. Most supplements are labelling quite well now. Also check all your toiletries and personal care products; you will be amazed where...
  23. I can tolerate, interestingly enough, small quantities of corn starch in baking. But someone baked some mostly corn grain scones of some type and I had a little taste of one and about died. It's an enigma. Sometimes I wonder if it is combinations of foods but haven't been able to figure it out yet. Someone else used to make some soy free pretzels (can...
