I would think if you are definitely gluten free that it must be an additional food intolerance. Think of what you have been eating a lot of since going gluten free, and that would be the likely culprit. After I quit gluten I itched intensely from soy (they put in so many gluten-free processed foods), then from potatoes, and then from citric acid (the last...

Sorry, but your doctor is ignorant about celiac. You need a new one who has a clue or two!! Ask your local celiac society for a recommendation, or post in the doctors thread "Looking for a doctor in (however far a geographic area you are willing to travel)" and you might get some recommendations from members here. There is also a thread there entitled...

ARCHIVED Soy And Celiac ?
mushroom replied to beksmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The three gluten-containing grains are wheat, RYE and barley. Most oats are also cross-contaminated unless they are certified gluten-free oats. If he mentioned to avoid soy, that is a separate intolerance that many celiacs have. I know I do. Did they test you for soy? Maybe they actually told you wheat, rye and barley. -

ARCHIVED Being Boarderline And Confused!
mushroom replied to beksmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My husband decided to go gluten free with me because he had a "borderline" response to the celiac test, and some bathroom issues. However, he certainly did not consider himself celiac and was doing it to accommodate me When we were back at Tahoe he indulged in some sourdough french bread, and then some beer, and continued to have a beer or two when... -
Now relax and take a deep breath! YOU CAN DO THIS!! Is it easy? No, it's pretty darned hard, especially for a busy mom trying to build a business. You don't say how old your children are so I presume they are not old enough to get on board and take the responsibility themselves. Do you have a partner to support you in this? Sometimes partners can...

ARCHIVED Pain In Legs
mushroom replied to ragidyann's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You probably need some additional supplements. You need to make sure you are getting calcium, zinc and magnesium to go with your low vitamin D, and the magnesium should also take care of your leg cramps. If your are having continual cramps that would leave residual aching in the calves. Why not give it a try?? -
Two suggestions: Contact the Celiac Society in your state and ask for a recommendation of a celiac knowledgable doctor, or post under the same doctors section you are in: Looking for a doctor in northern Uzbekistan (or wherever) and see what our members can come up with. If you find another way, please let us all know.

ARCHIVED Imitation Crab In Sushi
mushroom replied to Kathleen Elizabeth Strawn's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
For most people, the answers are yes, and yes. It need only be a measly crumb of gluten to set you off, unfortunately. I once get a very mild glutening (not the diarrhea kind) from a poorly washed coffee cup, and I'm not particularly sensitive. -

A Psoozle poop-in!! Looong time no see--too long! How're ya doing, mate? -
Hello, and welcome to the board. I believe when they do the dairy testing, they only check for casein intolerance (could be wrong? ). Anyways, if you have any intestinal damage (the non-specific "spots") you will most likely have destroyed/damaged the ability to digest lactose which is the milk sugar in dairy (the casein being the protein). Give it...

ARCHIVED Other Causes Of Damaged Villi?
mushroom replied to Laura9's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I developed an intolerance to citric acid 18 months after giving up gluten. Used a lot of lemons and juice, was eating lots of mandarins and bammo!! For me, it was itching. But potates and soy make me itch also. So yes, you do have to vary your diet. I am also an undiagnosed gluten intolerant (and soy, corn, nightshades). -
A lot of these medical "professionals" are so out of date as to be archaic, and really belong in a fossil museum. One could laugh at them if it were not for the harm that they do. So many people have been denied the opportunity of a correct diagnosis, instead of this IBS crapola, by their refusal to test. So the patients figure it out for themselves...

ARCHIVED Doctor Diagnosed Based On Weak Result. I Am Not Convinced This Is It.
mushroom replied to Jeffiner's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The biopsy is considered by doctors to be the "gold standard" for diagnosis, but don't forget that for a long while that was the only test there was, before the blood testing was developed. Of course the GI's want to do the biopsies because they make more money that way. But the biopsy does really not tell you reliably whether or not your symptoms will... -

ARCHIVED 90% Sure I Have It - Biopsy On Monday
mushroom replied to wendysmiling's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome, Wnedysmiling. Yes, from your list of symptoms, I am pretty certain that you have "it" too. Whether that "it" turns out to be confirmed celiac disease or "merely" gluten intolerance, I think that you should try the gluten free diet right away, because the solution is the same for both conditions. Many people test negative for celiac even with... -
ARCHIVED I Think My Dog Is Trying To Kill Me.....
mushroom replied to kaki-clam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What a stupid company. You would think if they didn't know what gluten was they would have at least looked it up Sorry you got sick. Your dog needs some training -
Go to the doctor's office and sign a form for release of medical records and request a copy of all your results. They are required by law to give them to you if you live in the US. And I believe most other countries will give you copies upon request. It is probable that you also have a sensitivity to lactose/casein, casein being the dairy protein. You...

I don't know if anyone can quantify your cancer risk, Jason. I certainly can't mine, but I live optimistically that it will pass me by. My maternal grandmother, my mother, my mother's sister, and both my sisters have had breast cancer. One sister tested positive for the BRCA1 gene, one tested negative, so I did not even bother to get tested since it doesn...

ARCHIVED Been Living This For Thirty Years
mushroom replied to Tom Riggins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wouldn't it be wonderful, Tom, if we could compile all the posts like yours (and there are hundreds and thousands of them) and send them to every doctor on the planet with an internet connection (as if they would read them, ha!) and let them see the suffering they have caused in this world through their ignorance. I am so sorry about the loss of your... -

Just a quick poop in, can't add any silliness, nuff cyber silliness going on. Hard to be psilly when consumed with rage after two days in cyberspace, no phone, burning the cellphone minutes talking to ISP provider, telco, CISCO (customer support in Phillipines and west coast USA), equipment seller, alarm company (yep, it set off the alarm at 5:00 a.m. ... -
ARCHIVED Does Bacon Have Gluten?
mushroom replied to Myooshka's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's one label I always have to very carefully check; some of ours does -
Granted BUT, what I am trying to say is that you have to look beyond NOW! It will not always be like this. Suck it up for a while, be very strict and careful with what you put in your mouth NOW! and you will get beyond this and able to resume your life. Think of it as a broken leg or broken back. Just because you can't see what is broken doesn't change...
