I used to be able to. Now I'm reacting to it too. I first started reacting when I got to U.S. and started eating Mexican food. Always figured it was the corn, never thought about gluten. Never ate much corn in NZ, just corn on the cob, non-GMO (we have managed to keep it that way still ), so back here it used to be I could always eat the corn and the...

Hi Kerouac, and welcome. Can you get a copy of your test results with the reference ranges and post them here so our "experts" can take a look at them? Often what doctors call "normal" or "borderline" or "chance" does not mean a lot. The results themselves are what count. You are in a rather large group of people who have celiac or gluten intolerance...

ARCHIVED What Should I Ask On My Next Dr. Visit?
mushroom replied to David in Seattle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Testing for vitamin and mineral deficiencies would help to determine whether you have leaky gut/poor absorption. Vitamins D, B12, folate, iron, zinc, magnesium, potassium. I do not see any specific stool testing for pancreatic sufficiency (the digestive enzymes). You do have increased fecal fat so maybe decreased lipase production. Have you tried digestive... -
I had a considerable period of time when I thought everything was fine and I was on top of things. And then about four months ago I started again with the intense bloating, vaso-vagal syncope, heart arrhythmias. It has happened a couple of times, at least, when I have consumed green beans or green peas which I had formerly considered safe foods for me...

I'm just tossing this out in the wind for what it's worth, but I am beginning to think that lectins are causing my residual problems. Corn is high in lectins and is also highly genetically modified. Lectins, if you start reading about them are nasty things that can interfere with a whole range of body systems and have some very unsavoury consequences, if...

ARCHIVED New Celiac 4 Yr Old - How Gluten Free Is Free?
mushroom replied to hbl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You will probably not really appreciate my answer, which is she has to be totally gluten free. You will have to learn along with your son and daughter-in-law what this really means. You will have to prepare her food on scrupulously clean counters and utensils. It is not acceptable to use plastic or wooden ones that are used for gluten, metal is okay. ... -

ARCHIVED Ok, Now I Am Wondering.....
mushroom replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is not actually surprising. The antibodies can leave the bloodstream quite quickly once you remove the gluten. If you tested positive, you were positive; most of us would give our eye teeth for a positive test, but we are "merely" gluten intolerant. As for the continuing low iron test, this is not at all surprising. It takes a long time for the small... -
ARCHIVED Need To Go On Antibiotics, But Am Afraid
mushroom replied to jasonD2's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Have you tested yourself with yogurt? Even though lactose intolerant I could do yogurt. That and probiotics are about all you can do to protect yourself against antibiotics, in my experience. I have a vague memory that if they give you flagyl there is something you can take, but can't remember what it is. Don't know what the treatment is for the parasites... -

mushroom replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi again. I can't remember if you have had all your nutrient levels checked and are taking supplements. When I was low in D, B12 and folate, I felt very tearful all the time. It's amazing what a difference the right supplements can make. Hope you get to feeling better soon, but it does take a while to come right. Take it easy on yourself. -
ARCHIVED Is This Really Celiac?
mushroom replied to Chrisco's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If you are gluten intolerant and not absorbing nutrients, you probably should have Vit. D, Ferritin, folate, calcium, magnesium. potassium, Vits. A, E & K checked too. All those can be deficient and lead to other problems like osteoporosis, fatigue, etc., ad nauseum. By the way, my PCP wanted to send me to a psychiatrist, too, and the only diagnoses... -

ARCHIVED Soy & Corn - What Are The Symptoms Of Intolerance?
mushroom replied to Evangeline's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
As with the symptoms of celiac, soy and corn intolerance symptoms vary from person to person. For me, I have a similar reaction (though not as violent) to corn as I do to gluten. Soy makes me itch. -
Hi, and welcome to the forum. I would say that you have found friends and fellow travelers. When you say you new doctor has tested you for antibodies, did you mean the celiac antibodies? I certainly hope so because if you are not celiac, I would judge that you are most probably gluten intolerant. It is a myth that you have to have experienced...

Yeah, I went to a Russian (Easter??) partay once. The food was overwhelming and impressive (and high in fat), but just as well we had so much food, because the wodka kept hopping out of the freezer for "toasts", bottoms up, drink the whole glass Seemed like every half hour there was another "toast" to somefing or other, and then sometime much later *I... -

In case you didn't "get" the recipe (I didn't at first) you are supposed to cut the corner off the bag and pipe the cream cheese/chocolate mixture onto the strawberries (I think??)
