What is happening to you, Jason, is not forever or for the rest of your life, so stay out of that hole You are having to jump over a hurdle on life's path, and once you get over it you will be fine. Most of these problems are only temporary until you heal, although some intolerances like soy may remain. Only time and healing, and some patience, will...

ARCHIVED Blood Testing - How Long Must You Be Back On G?
mushroom replied to LJ-Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The generally recommended time for a valid test is 6-8 weeks. As you have discovered, many doctors do not know this. To recommend giving it up completely before testing is almost beyond belief. If gluten is the problem, once you remove it from the body the body stops making the antibodies to attack it, and those antibodies are what the test measures. ... -

ARCHIVED Can I Have Fructose Intolerance Too?
mushroom replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The only thing I would add is that this is a very individual journey you are taking. No one can take it for you or even travel the same path, because we all react so totally differently to different things. You alone will have to experiment and discover for yourself what YOUR body likes and dislikes, and this may change over time. You have to be in tune... -
ARCHIVED Why So Many Flours?
mushroom replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
You will find as you start baking that gluten free flours and doughs have a completely different texture and consistency than gluten flours. It is possible to bake an item with just one flour, but the flours tend to work best in combination, using at least one of the starches (tapioca, potato, corn, arrowroot), either brown or white rice flour, and one or... -

Clay says he doesn't think the deaf talk much about sex, they just do it... a lot!!! Beats conversation!!! With extreme apologies to the hard of hearing, of which he is one Now, I wouldn't say that applies to us cos I hear quite well, and he likes to talk and talk and..... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Know If I Really Have Celiac?
mushroom replied to chrismilne's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't think the two weeks back on gluten, followed by two more weeks off gluten, would be sufficient to reactivate sufficient antibodies to measure on the blood test. Just the two weeks off, alone, would be enough to invalidate it and two weeks on not long enough. I would have expected the results to be negative myself. They say you need to be eating... -

I know I am a page or so late, but HAIL TO KWEEN GIANKNIT lONG MAY YE REIGN, although not for 92 pages Poeter was a very benign king, in fact most of the time we hardly knew he was there, and little bowing and scraping was required. You should definitely continue eating gluten. You will mess up the test results if you do not eat gluten. -

ARCHIVED Ibs Or Celiac?
mushroom replied to Rjravenw40's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the board, Raven. It is a fiction many doctors still believe, that you must be undernourished to be celiac/gluten intolerant. Just as many are overweight because their bodies are desperately storing any nutrients they can find because of malnourishment from not absorbing the beneficial nutrients. Were you initially given the celiac test which... -

A recent (self) survey of my equipment (which I believe to be different from Peter's ) was most unsatisfactory. Nothing I have a pair of seems to match. Did the egg divide wrongly?? You know those people where you cover one half of their face and then the other, and they look like two different people?? Can't do that with myself coz I can only see... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Pancreatic Enzyme Deficiencies?
mushroom replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I go on and off digestive enzymes. I'm back on them right now, with lactaid, as I'm trying out lactose again. They don't give me constipation; I take them because I'm having the big D and gas. I was diagnosed with insufficient pancreatic enzymes and took them for almost a year, consistently. Then was able to wean from them, but now I'm taking them consistently... -

Sorry to hear you are still having problems, Jason. Can I ask a quick question?? Without going back through all your topics and posts, because I honestly can't remember. Have you gone out to get a second, or third, opinion on your condition?? Is it perhaps time you went to one of the major celiac centers for a consultation in the hopes of getting further...

ARCHIVED Could I Have Celiac'S Disease?
mushroom replied to Jamie Michael's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Shannon, I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the conventional wisdom says that for a test to be valid, i.e., a good chance of giving a positive result if you are celiac, that you need to be eating gluten for at least six weeks before the test, and eating the equivalent of at least four slices of bread a day. For you, this would no doubt be the equivalent... -
ARCHIVED Supplements I Should Be Taking?
mushroom replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Your doc really should check you for deficiencies. The most important, in my mind, to know about are Vit.D, B12, folate, ferritin, calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc. You are right that your damaged gut may not be able to properly absorb the supplements in tablet form at the moment. It is generally recommended here that you take a B12 methylcobalamine... -

Here are some ideas from google. One of them you will have to substitute for the 1/2 cup rice flour; maybe tapioca, or half tapioca half buckwheat. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
