  1. Good golly, Ms.Molly. Don't let the doubters get to you. We get enough of that nonsense from our doctors and families without starting to spout it ourselves Only you know how your body reacts to things; you live in it every day.
  2. This post confuses me greatly. It was and is my understanding that the over-the-counter Vit D is D2 and the prescription kind, the kind you need, is D3, cholecalciferol, which is what my doctor has prescribed for me. Maybe it's different where you're from.
  3. No migraines fir ne, not the nervous-symptom type of celiac. However, and strangely enough, developed tinnitus, in the right ear only, almost immediately after going gluten free, and continues to this day, 18 months later. It stops now and again, but not for long. My B12 and folate were both at the low end of normal, and when retested 9 mos. later B12...
  4. You got it right there. Every sane thing you do to move yourself towards a proper diagnosis is used against you as being "non-compliant, hysterical, hypochondriacal or just plain nuts, when we are probably the sanest patients they have seen in a while. However, I guess I was pretty dumb because I didn't self-diagnose until I was 67, and I first started...
  5. Welcome to the forum, Youdah, and welcome to the frustrations that so many of us have experienced. If it weren't for self-diagnosis a lot of us would have *no* diagnosis except IBS and fibromyalgia (with a few psychiatric categtories for "all in your head" thrown in). Your symptoms are pretty classic for all of us, but apparently not for the doctors. ...
  6. And, of course, they contain soy lecithin
  7. This is a big question mark for me, one I have to deal with every day. Here in NZ we have a standardized agreement with OZ, so if anything is marked gluten free, it has to test No Gluten if it comes from Oz or NZ. Low gluten according to the website can have up to 20 ppm. Then we have a lot of British products on the shelves because to use the typical...
  8. The initial test for celiac disease is a blood test, called the celiac panel, which consists of the following tests: Anti-gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Tissue Transglutamise (tTg) IgA Total Serum IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutamise (tTg) IgG Endomesial Antibody (EMA) IgA Your PCP can order this for you. The next step in the testing...
  9. I have had a bacterial overgrowth in my intestine caused by staph. aureus. It seems tol be somewhat better with the supplements I have been taking but I think it is still there. I would not consider taking additional antibiotics for it, which is the typical MD response. because I think they were partially responsible for it in the first place. I will get...
  10. A whole new world could be opening up for you. Good luck on finding the "new" you!
  11. I got glutened about 9:00 p.m. Diarrhea in the early hours of the morning and all next day, followed by gas and bloating for the next two days. This was my first food glutening; all the others have been meds and have only given bloating, gas and extreme nausea, no diarrhea. Don't know why the difference.
  12. How about deely boppers?
  13. I have copied and filed your nomato information and one of these days will try it, now thst I have adjusted to being tomato free . Thanks again.
  14. Nightshades are the family of plants that grow at night. Jimson weed is probably the most infamous, but the tomato is probably the most common, except for the potato. Then there are the peppers (except for black pepper) and eggplant. My favourite dish USED to be ratatouille I am one of them what has had to give 'em up. And it is hard, almost as hard...

    ARCHIVED Neuro Appt

I have found it is really hard to judge a new doc (in most cases--others just jump out as really bad) on a first visit. Any time they do not just blow you off has to be considered a positive But a second opinion as a basis of comparison can't hurt if you can afford it You can then compare if they are both coming from a standard neurological position...
  16. My MCV had also been elevated for years--I have had frequent blood tests because of my RA meds. Nobody was bothered by it. I finally looked it up and had them run B12 and folate (they were done once a year ago and were low normal at that time). B12 had dropped even further and folate was several points below. I told my PCP I needed B12 injections 'cos...
  17. Yep, sorry I didn't make that clear.
  18. Hi Lila: I am also about 18 months into my gluten-free life and I am in much the same situation as you. While my GI symptoms have cleared, the RA (negative tests) and psoriasis still continue pretty much unabated. I have just started injections of Humira to try to improve it since nothing else has helped. I would love to hear how you do on the Specific...
  19. Hi to you. I too am sorry to hear that you suffered so much through your childhood and do not have any happy memories of it. It does not seem fair when you see how others around you are enjoying themselves. It may help a little bit to know that even when you are comparatively healthy, childhood can still be something to be suffered through. We do not...
  20. I don't know why it's so hard for doctors to understand this; it's pretty basic really. How can one be happy and joyful when suffering in misery. They seem to understand this if someone has lost a limb or is paralyzed, but if they can't "see" your suffering, then it doesn't exist, it is all in your head. I wonder how many of us have had psychiatric help...
  21. The only suspicious-looking ingredients are: "natural worcestershire flavor [natural flavor (with organic tamari soy sauce powder (soybeans, rice flour, rice maltodextrin , salt, soy lecithin)" Although this should be all right because the soy sauce is tamari, anything with "natural flavor" is always something I am suspicious of. Have you ever reacted...
  22. I was self-diagnosed after I retired; used to be a legal assistant. Sure wish at least one of the doctors I consulted in my lifetime had had the presence of mind to consider celiac--would have saved much suffering and permanent after-effects.
  23. How long can you go without eating? Here is what I found when googling: The day before: # Pre-register by telephone. # Eat normally up until midnight. # You may drink clear liquids up until 4 hours prior to your arrival time. This includes black coffee (sugar is 0K), tea, and apple, grape, or cranberry juice). # You cannot drink milk or orange...
  24. It's always tricky when trying to maintain civil family relationships. Maybe you could give her some gluten-free items for her pantry--like chicken stock, flour, baking powder, gravy mix, etc., that she could use when preparing foods for you. That way neither of you would have to worry so much and no offense would be caused. I am assuming here (since...
  25. For the last six months I found myself wanting to cry if anyone looked at me or said a kind word; blamed it on frustration with my RA flare. But now the flare is gone but at the same time I went on Vit. D, B12, folate and B complex supplements. So still don't know if it was the flare going away or the supplements that did the trick.
