    ARCHIVED Blood Tests Vs Biopsy

I would do without the corn chips for a while since corn is also one of the top allergens. For snacks you could try a handful of almonds, perhaps some rice crackers with hummus dip, but I personally wouldn't go much further than that to start. You want things with low allergic potential and easy to digest.

    ARCHIVED Blood Tests Vs Biopsy

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I have never had the testing myself, but I understand there are at least four tests that are usually performed. Perhaps you could post your test results and the ranges the lab gave so that the "experts" here could look at them. It is not unusual to have positive blood and negative biopsy; the biopsy is done as confirmation...
  3. Your gut may be healing but I don't think your fissures are, if that is what it is. You need medical attention. Edit: Sorry about the typo in the other post. Didn't edit properly!
  4. Your guy may be healing but I don't think your fissures are, if that is what it is. You need medical attention.
  5. Hi Mandy: I am sorry you are still having problems. Have you considered that you might have some other food intolerances that you are not aware of. Many of us do and only find out after eliminating gluten. I have had to eliminate not only lactose but corn, soy and nightshade family plants (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant). Some are also intolerant...
  6. I had a PCP like that once, for waaay too long, a really beautiful woman, an internist who graduated from Stanford; my Dh swears she slept her way through medical school (you know what I mean). She bought a thriving practice and finally had to abandon it and go work for Kaiser (no, this is not Kaiser bashing) because all her patients left her because she...
  7. I don't really know. I have been on and off and on and off them. Whenever I hit a bad patch, I take them again.
  8. Do you have a caring and knowledgeable PCP? It sounds like you should start there. Do you have hemorrhoids, perhaps? Whatever the cause, I think this is something you should discuss with your doctor.
  9. Are you supplementing with digesive enzymes?
  10. I just tell people that I cannot eat wheat or gluten. If they look at me funny, I lie (well, it's probably not a lie bit I don't know that one way or the other) and say I am celiac. Let them try and prove I am not. If we can't prove we are, they sure as heck can't prove we are not. Don't worry about it. Just get on with life. I guess when you have...
  11. I did testing through Diagnos-Techs which showed sensitivity to eggs and casein as well as the already known soy. I tried eliminating eggs and casein (I wa at that time eating only yogurt and cheese) and had never felt worse since going gluten free. I gave it a three-week trial and then went back to eggs, yogurt and cheese because I had never noticed intestinal...
  12. You could always try the diet without any testing, and see if it helps her, or would she be resistant?
  13. Most soy sauce is made from wheat except for Tamari, and I believe La Choy which is probably only available in the U.S. Otherwise soy is gluten free. I just happen to be really sensitive to soy.
  14. Many of us discover other sensitivities after we discontinue gluten. For me it was the soy that so many processed foods seem to contain to make up for the lack of gluten--cookies, crackers, breads. It is best at first to avoid these products, I found out, and eat very simply with plain unprocessed foods to give yourself a chance to heal. Then you can add...
  15. That's great news. I especially liked this part:
  16. That is precisely what I was trying to point out. I am not sure if this remark was directed at me, it wasn't clear, but I was certainly not condemning the entire medical profession; in fact I have two very caring doctors (both women incidentally) who are doing their best for me right now. And there have been others. All in all, I would say my experiences...
  17. The whole problem with this discussion is that there are absolutely no statistics I am aware of on the diagnosis of celiac disease, whether it be done: immediately upon presentation of an appropriate cluster of symptoms; by accident or surprise; after years of presenting these same symptoms to one or multiple health care providers, perhaps with the inclusion...
  18. I'm certainly glad you added that last sentence. I think maybe your doctor and HMO are atypical. I have very vivid recollections of my US HMO's, and not for the right reasons. I had been given a cortisone shot by one PCP of one HMO and had a horrible reaction (face swollen like a balloon, palpitations and insomnia). I tried to schedule an appointment...
  19. How typical! My PCP responded much the same way when I was complaining that I had trouble digesting food. She said, "Well, clearly, digestion iS taking place."

    ARCHIVED Vitamin D

I got tested because I asked for it, was told that my low, low normal was okay, then insisted on prescription, then was told by my rheumatologist that I needed to be taking more than once a month, that I "needed to fill up the tank" first before dropping back to monthly, otherwise I was just sustaining my low level.
  21. Well I don't think you are overreacting; I think you are being very prudent. Prudent also in keeping your five-year-old away from gluten. As you must be aware, there are many false negatives on the blood tests. Do you have a copy of his results that you could post here for the "experts" in reading tests (I am not one of them)?
  22. Oh you poor dear! I have not experienced the gluten craving, but best to take an extra big hanky with you tomorrow
  23. Hi: I am so sorry you are feeling so bad. It could be caused by your body adjusting to the lack of imodium and to the different foods. It is best at first to eat a very simple diet of chicken, fish, rice, veggies and fruit (even then cooked fruits are probably best) to give your gut time to heal and adjust. There is often a withdrawal from glulen which...
  24. Mysh: I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. The only good thing about it is that you have found out what sort of person he is before you got any more involved. He is only thinking of himself, not you. If he truly cared for you he would do anything he could to help you. It doesn't make it that much easier to deal with, it must be very...
