  1. Hello, and welcome to the board. Yes, some of the lucky ones (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) do not have severe symptoms to indicate that they should not eat gluten. Nevertheless, if you are celiac it is still doing its damage, witness your Hashimoto's and nutrient (B-12) deficiency, since it is a disease of malabsorption. Whether...
  2. Actually, according to Wiki - I know, not necessarily a world-leading authority but serves the purpose -. they are pseudocereal grains: Pseudocereal grains Starchy grains from broadleaf (dicot) plant families: amaranth (Amaranth family) quinoa (Goosefoot family) buckwheat (Smartweed family) Open Original Shared Link ...
  3. Yes, from past experience I would definitely go slow with introduction of new things. I just barged in, full-speed ahead, and then had to backtrack a lot and experiment to find out what was causing my rashes, itching, hives, etc., which only appeared once I was well rid of gluten, I might add.
  4. I's always afraid of Paula Deen's recipes
  5. I think it is always best to eliminate the whole product line and then experiment. I cut out "all" corn, meaning all obvious corn, but not the cornstarch that might be in meds, and allowed some cornstarch in baked goods, and was fine with that and with the occasional HFCS. Gradually I let in a little more and more starch, but when I tried something like...
  6. kiwi's indeed! I read a piece last week about abandoning the apostrophe altogether as a lost cause Mrs. Jones cat has lost it's hat, so its going to have a cold head. Might just as well. You can read it without them or with them wrong
  7. Yep - we is almost done with the 21st
  8. I think I will let someone else do that.
  9. No, just sub the gluten free flour. The gums are used for structure in things that have to rise and hold together.
  10. You did not mention the DGP; did he run that one also, as it is very specific for celiac?
  11. No, no, only 7 more hours and it will be the 22nd!!! Hanging in there Whose clock do they use, anyway???
  12. There should be a law that they have to test for celiac disease first before prescribing fertility treatments!
  13. Oh, do tell!!! I think we are about the same Hope you have a nonstop and don't have to go through LA or Vegas.
  14. Yes, the biopsy has always been considered the 'gold standard' of celiac diagnosis, but it sounds like you are in the early stages and the pathologist who read your slides was not totally convinced. Everything I have bolded is indicative of celiac disease. He is suggesting that your doctor run the celiac blood panel for confirmation of celiac. For...
  15. Welcome Cece! I see that you have been following to the best of your ability the gluten free diet for a year, and that you can now recognize when you have been glutened. Those little glutenings can keep the antibodies activated so should be avoided at alll costs. Unfortunately, milk products can contribute to the gut damage too and it is good that...
  16. If he's going to do the endoscopy anyway, regardless of the challenge, I would just let him do his thing and not bother about the gluten challenge. At least he can look for other things that might be causing you a problem and you won't be making yourself sicker in the process. I personally don't think a three-week challenge is long enough to make a difference...
  17. Mine too. I was thinking of her last night during one of my sleepless times. Hope she feels better soon.
  18. Yes, it is the same. When it comes to testing, most doctors look only for things that are outside range. They don't think of the ramifications of being at the bottom of the range.
  19. The inkwell was also an interesting vase - made very pretty carnations
  20. That means you should have the results in about an hour
  21. I would just comment that not much 'thought' went into the thought -- not to their face of course. Few people turn down chocolate, so you shouldn't have any problems getting rid of them. Make someone unexpectedly happy, like a security guard, a parking lot attendant, someone unexpecting Merry Christmas!
  22. When you are working with quotes from a post, the quoted material starts with the word 'quote' inside square brackets and ends with the same word with a backslash in front of it inside the square brackets, thusly: /quote. I can't do it here because it would come out as a quote and you wouldn't see the quote marks. But after you hit reply the board automatically...
  23. Welcome to the board, Newfiegirl. The tests are not infallible. There are known false negatives. And you were only given one of the tests. You really need to have a full celiac panel: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG...
  24. She was probably looking to rule out a duodenal ulcer from h. pylori, and considering differential diagnoses such as gastritis, gastroparesis, etc. I am no doctor, so do not know all the possibilities, but most testing is designed to rule out certain conditions (or in, if you find that condition )
  25. You will have to wait for the pathologist to examine the slides to determine if celiac disease is present. If the disease is severe it can sometimes be seen with the naked eye, but it normally needs microscopic viewing of the samples to find it. Inflammation is usually one of the first things to show up in celiac, but it can have many causes other than...
