Yep. No one told us when we were younger how tough we would have to be, or we would have trained harder (although I got some pretty good training along the way -- and one kind person who took me under her wing because she understood ) Funny how those people stand out in our lives -- that one person, and my 8th grade teacher probably saved my life. The... -

ARCHIVED 2Nd Opinion Help!
mushroom replied to runsuzannerun's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The first thing you need is a copy of the pathologist's report so you can find out the lab that read them initially. Then ask you doctor for a recommendation of someone else to give you a second opinion. We would be interested if you cared to post the report here on the forum too because inflammation is also the earliest sign of celiac damage. Have...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Doctor Said Anti-Gliadin Test Not Necessary!
mushroom replied to kerid's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From: Open Original Shared Link TTG false positivity has been described in patients with both type I diabetes and autoimmune hepatitis. Theoretically, it can also be falsely positive in other autoimmune disease. It is also known to occur with dairy intolerance in the absence of celiac disease. -

ARCHIVED 2Nd Opinion Help!
mushroom replied to runsuzannerun's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Was there a pathology report from a pathologist, or did the doctor 'read' the slides himself? I would ask that the slides by read by another pathologist, if you have seen the pictures and they look blunted to you. Once this has been done it would be best to consult an endocrinologist about your thyroid problems armed with this information. It is quite...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Doctor Said Anti-Gliadin Test Not Necessary!
mushroom replied to kerid's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those are the two tests that most doctors think are the only tests necessary; some will only order the IgA tTG. They order these on the premise that those are the tests which will pick up damage in the small intestine (the anti-tissue transglutaminase) and this is their definition of celiac disease, that there must be damage to the intestinal lining. The... -

If you want to have a shave biopsy of a suspected DH area, you really need a dermatologist, and one who knows something about celiac and DH, because the biopsy is not taken of the lesion but of the clear skin immediately adjacent to a lesion. So many doctors do not take the biopsy sample correctly beause they don't know any better.

Have you tried iodine elimination? A lot of DH'ers find it makes it a zillion times worse. And DH hangs around for a long time, unfortunately. - longer than GI antibodies, that's for sure. -
ARCHIVED Unsure About Getting Tested
mushroom replied to julissa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's nothing personal. Once the board has been spammed, there is a program that automatically removes the name of a spammer and substitutes that sentence. However, there is a board rule against bumping posts; please do not do that again. As to your question, there is food testing available through an allergist, but first you might try just the total... -
ARCHIVED Very Confused About 3 Yr Old
mushroom replied to Busybmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, ideally you should trial the diet for at least 3-6 months to evaluate its effect. What about celiac diagnosis does your doctor not understand? For years we have been told that biopsy trumps blood work, and now your doctor seems to be telling you that because his blood work was negative he is not celiac? There are known to be false negatives on blood... -

mushroom replied to eleanorj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello, and welcome to the board. Before you take him gluten free, there are a couple of things to consider. He is only 9, and has a lot of years of schooling ahead of him. Most schools, before they will make special provisions for him will require a formal diagnosis from a doctor (in writing) that he must be gluten free. It is for children, especially... -

There is no gluten in oilive oil, and there shouldn't be in pesto. Mouthwash probably not, but as always, check the label.
