  1. I am sorry for the loss of your friend Some people are very special and make such a difference in our lives. Hang in there, and don't let the grieving get you down too far. Family can be very thoughtless and inconsiderate. Try to be rational with them rather than angry, if you can. Print our your post here and give it to them, so that they can...
  2. I personally feel that we should be happy that they voluntarily let us know about the shared equipment (or facilities) ; since the equipment is thoroughly cleaned between runs, they are not obliged to. I worry more about the companies that change the ingredients without letting anyone know, just to keep you on your toes A market I buy from makes...
  3. Like Adalaide, I make the soup. I am lucky to have a gluten free bakery that makes a great bagel substitute - I probably prefer it to gluten bagels.
  4. And what a chore it is, eating all this CHEESE.
  5. The tests run were not all meaningless, gatita. The total IgA is important, and the tTG is commonly used as a 'screening' test in the (IMHO) mistaken belief that this test must be positive for you to have celiac disease. The pp is correct that the DGP has replaced the AGA testing because of its high degree of specificity for celiac disease but it is taking...
  6. Lisa, you are finally living in the right place for a heat-averse person! Saw this in OUR paper: "The National Weather Service is forecasting morning frost on San Diego beaches."
  7. Ultimate Gluten Free, I'm glad you clarified that you were talking about the AGA IgA and IgG test only. Certainly I concur that this test is not used much any more since it has been replaced by the DGP (IgA and IgG), a test which some doctors are unfortunately reluctant to run.
  8. A doctor who listens How great to find someone like that. So glad for you.
  9. The lab ranges for negative, weak positive, and positive, acknowledge that we all produce IgA antibodies. And in fact the total serum IgA measures that we produce sufficient amounts of IgA antibodies for the testing to be valid. It is the number of antibodies that determines whether or not one has celiac disease, not the actual presence of one or more antibodies...
  10. Four that I am beyond: can eat all dairy now; can eat things with corn starch in them now; can eat things with potato starch now; can eat things with soy lecithin now. Small but significant steps in what can be added back into the diet. Pamela's baking mix, anyone? Udi's bread? Chocolate?
  11. Sounds like a good start, Wendy
  12. That is so true!! That is because doctors only accepted that there is such a thing a year or two ago. Haven't had time yet to figure it out.
  13. These tests are what the American Medical Association requires, in conjunction with endoscopy and biopsy, (with positive results) in order to diagnose celiac disease. I have no idea what the FDA has to say about them and they are not over-the-counter as you seem to be implying. The only over-the-counter celiac testing I am aware of comes from the Canadian...
  14. See this, from an interview with Dr. Alessio Fasano: Zonulin, Intestinal Permeability and Autoimmune Disease When we think about the intestine, most of us imagine a long tube from mouth to anus. What we don’t often think about is that the cells in the intestinal wall have doors or channels in between them. These doors can open and close. Dr. Fasano m...
  15. That's the way our bathroom window was in Bavaria How'd that ice get on the inside??? of double windows?? Of course, we had three months when the temp never rose about 0 (F), and most of the time it was -30. Fountains were all frozen in mid air, trees had icicles all winter, and the lens on our camera froze when we went out to take pics of the Main...
  16. The links didn't work for me.
  17. I was prepared to pay the "No FaceBook" penalty, but thank you Vydorscope and Bunnie both!! Who can't relate to that !!! Hilarious.
  18. Leaky gut syndrome is caused (or can be caused) by gluten intolerance. Your gut normally has what is known as "tight junctions" which prevent undigested food getting into the blood stream. The food must be broken down by the digestive process into small enough fatty acid chains to make it through these tight junctions. When your intestinal lining is damaged...
  19. Did your daughter ever have any tests from the celiac panel? Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA It looks like they did run the Total Serum IgA (which is also known as Immunoglobulin) but I don't see any of the...
  20. It is really hard to say what it is, ken. So many of us have so many different skin reactions to things we eat. Did the doctor give you anything for the eczema, and if so has it helped? If it does not get any worse you might try to wait it out since at the moment it's just irritating. But you are at about the point where other intolerances often come...
  21. I was taking 50,000 once a week to begin with, with some daily 1,000's in between. My doctor said my tank was so empty that taking a regular dose would barely give me enough gas to get to the next gas station. So you have to fill the tank first, and you will not be absorbing all of that 50,000, but keep getting your level checked and when you are mid-range...
  22. I personally believe it is good to be exposed to a wide variety of healing treatments and methods. We are all free to accept or reject that which is or is not applicable to us. And we should all have the right to point out those treatments which we have tried which have failed, and also those treatments which do not appear to have any evidence to support...
  23. Our DOC (Dept. of Conservation) controls a lot of parkland, and thoughtfully 'maintains' shelter huts for trampers and backpackers to take cover from our sometimes wildly unpredictable and inclement weather (howling gales and major downpours in the last week at height of summer hols.) Someone with a sense of humor has been visiting the huts this summer,...
  24. Actually, Skaught lost the key after he locked the door last night, and had to break in to get the board back up
  25. Are you sure it is eczema and not dermatitis herpetiformis (DH)? DH is the skin form of celiac disease, It is normally intensely itchy and stinging, and tends to scar. It often is characterized by blisters or pustule like heads. DH can linger in the skin (and even appear) after the antibodies have departed from the blood stream per se. It takes a long...
