Good gracious, yes!! This board is littered with bodies bearing negative biopsies. A lot of them have negative blood work as well. Sweet potatoes and yams are a staple of my diet. Unlike GottaSki, I am not totally grain free. I do eat alternative breads made with rice flour, tapioca, sorghum, buckwheat, arrowroot, teff. Legumes are a good source of protein. Some of us do not tolerate them but it has nothing to do with gluten. I had to cut them from my diet because of the lectins contained in their outer skins which interfere with my autonomic nervous system and give me atrial fibrillation. Damage to the gut is pretty severe if it can be seen with the naked eye. Wait for your biopsy results to come back and see what the pathologist has to say and then if necessary we can start speculating on your tTG. -

Not a stupid question. Milk is made up of milk sugars (lactose), protein (casein) and fat. You need different enzymes to digest the different parts of the milk. The milk enzyme is made in the part of the small intestine that is destroyed by gluten so the lactose part is not digestible until you heal your gut. The casein is digested by a different enzyme... -

Yes, if there is a gluten free section, who's complainin? You're in and out. I just don't have the time to look at every price tag in the store or read the packaging of every product. And I sure don't have the energy to walk the whole supermarket at Walmart and end up with ONE product I only complain when you have to be a sleuth to find the stuff. -

Why don't you do a trial of totally dairy free? It could be coming from the casein or the lactose. Maybe not even gluten??? I don't know if you have trialled gluten without dairy? That could be a possibility. -

I know whereof she speaks. After hearing of everyone shopping at Walmart I thought, Wow, they must have changed!. Well, not in Nevada they haven't. They have gluten free Chex in with the other cereals and apart from that it is almost impossible to find a labelled gluten free product. Certainly not easy enough to make it worth the effort. -
Yeah, potatoes are a big hive producer for me. I believe it's the lectins they contain. I trialled potatoes again, a small bite three days in a row, last week and ended up with atrial afibrillation so I guess they are a permanent no-no for me, along with all the other nightshades. Just might trial some tomato this summer just for verification

You don't have to worry about gluten in salmon, but if you want to worry about salmon anyway you can worry that the FDA is close to approving genetically modified farmed salmon so that it will grow to size in half the time in fish farms in Panama!!! And here, silly old me thought that salmon was a cold water fish. This must be a fish of a different kettle -

Yes, I would think you could safely eat these. They have not been injected with any gluten-containing broth and have not been rubbed with any gluten-containing spice mixtures, i.e., nothing has been added to them is what they are saying. So unless they were cc'd by the abbatoir where they were slaughtered (not likely for gluten at least) they should be... -

Hi Steph: The answers are Yes! Yes! and Yes!!! You are right on the normal curve of post-gluten recovery. Such a relief to get rid of the gluten, feel terrific, and then the body says, "Wait a minute, I was addicted to that stuff, I think I need it!!! Gimme, gimme, gimme" and you are in withdrawal, grumpy, and out of sorts and, as you say, detoxing... -

Lisa, that sounds awfully like the traditional Kiwi Christmas dinner (although turkeys are becoming more popular, and thus cheaper). That's what hubs wanted (the lamb that is) - note to self, make more mint sauce - but of course I won't have the potatoes. I will do roast veg - red onions, squash, sweet potato, parsnip - and asparagus is in full swing here... -

As incredible as it seems, some companies/people feel the urge to put gluten in guacamole. I was surprised myself when a know gluten freer asked if my guacamole was gluten free. I said yes (before I was eating gluten free) and he said "How do you know?" I said because I made it myself. He then decided to eat it. When in doubt, ask, or don't eat it.
