  1. The awareness is not there because there are still doctors like yours who think they can diagnose a celiac by looking at them Yes, gluten free for a month would probably give you a negative test. Right now it's either self-diagnosis of celiac or NCGI, or glutening yourself up for 2-3 months to have someone tell you what you already know, that you shouldn...
  2. This neat shot by an astronaut 400 km above earh shows our little corner of the world: Open Original Shared Link On the right lie the ruins of the city of Christchurch. Heading to your left you will see the harbour for the port "over the hill", and on the left side of the harbour, about mid-harbour, if you look really hard you will see an orange tile...
  3. I wish you the best of Irish luck, Mateto. Just to be clear, these are the tests you should ask for: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA
  4. Well, perhaps I should turn the question around and ask you, what do you expect of this doctor? What are you consulting him for? What is it that you wish him to do for you. As you stated upfront, you are not looking for a diagnosis because you have already determined what is causiing your problems. Do you want him to verify the diagnosis? Do you...
  5. 19. You don't have to get naked
  6. I do know that there are some anomalies in our intolerances. It took me so long to figure mine out because for me pizza wa always comfort food - I never wanted to eat Mexican because it killed me, but would always beg to go have pizza because I had no repercussions from it (then!!). You might try reading this article: Open Original Shared Link Some...
  7. With an IgA of 17 and a range of thirteen to adult 44 - 441, your son is IgA deficient (and even with Dr. Guandalini adjusting the range to less than 20, he is still under.) This means to me that his IgA testing is not valid and they need to do the IgG versions. His symptoms certainly sound spot on for celiac. Is there any way of getting retesting sooner...
  8. In the eye of the beholder??? Funny little stumpy toes, would have been good for a giggle
  9. For me, it would have to be a slice of Pain au Levain with freshly churned butter
  10. Some of you were. My pheet were not entered....
  11. So glad to hear that Ally came through with flying colours
  12. You can exclude rice from being a gluten problem for sure, because it does not contain gluten. Mini-wheat cereal is a different story. I have no explanation for your ability to tolerate that, unless you get a delayed reaction to it that you do not recognize as coming from it.
  13. I echo Skylark's post. Non-celiac gluten intolerance is a very real condition, with symptoms which can be as bad as or worse than celiac disease. The only difference is that you do not pass the tests, the problem with gluten is not an autoimmune reaction in the small intestine. Researchers are still trying to determine the mechanism, but it is very real...
  14. I agree with the other posters, you definitely need celiac testing. And yes, you could have psoriatic arthritis. My psoriasis started out with little round red patches that didn't even itch, just scaled over with a silver scale and dropped off, only to reappear a few weeks later nearby. Never knew what they were until after the arthritis hit, and then...
  15. Hello Aaron, and welcome. Yes, I would certainly ask to be tested for celiac disease. It may not be what you have but so many of the symptoms match that the diagnosis would seem to be a likely fit. By the way, you cannot tell using the naked eye in an endoscopy whether the celiac damage is present; that is why they take biopsies and view them under the...
  16. I would definitely talk to the restaurant manager or chef ahead of time, and arrange for them to prepare a plate of food especially for you (since there will be a big group I am sure it would be worth their while). You can discuss with them and get what you want and discuss how it should be prepared. A personal visit would probably be best so that you...
  17. Well, of the tests in the celiac panel, they did run the most predictive, and they did run both the IgA and IgG versions. The reason for the total serum IgA is because if you do not produce normal quantities of IgA all the IgA test results are invalidated and they have to do the IgG versions. Here, you have already had them. The first two tests, the Anti...

    ARCHIVED My Diagnosis

How frustrating! Oh no, I didn't test you for celiac because I don't think you have celiac, I think you are just bulimic or anorexic. Now really, wouldn't you know if you were bulimic? She must obviously just think you are looking for attention. Well, you are, but of the informed kind!!
  19. IIf the normal range for tTG is under 20, and yours is 20, then you are outside of the normal range. I am glad your doctor has referred you to a GI because many would be dismissive of something that is barely abnormal As Bubba's Mom says, I would ask the GI to run the full celiac panel Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial...
  20. I had never heard of red rice until recently. I have never seen it in the market and when I looked it up I find there are different kinds of red rice. Can you tell me what red rice you are using?
  21. Yes, do make sure you have a full list of your symptoms that match celiac disease. Doctors can be very good at making you forget what you want to say, and very dismissive. It's better to be able to hand them a list and say, this is why I want to be tested.
  22. Do get a hard copy of your test results - both blood and biopsy. Is the only celiac test done the tTG? This is certainly not a full panel, especially if they didn't even check your total serum IgA. It's a pity they didn't do the DGP which is more sensitive to early celiac. And your biopsy could still be positive. In early stages the changes are not visible...
  23. Well, nothing gets a message across quicker than a little reinforcement Could be one trial learning to avoid all temptation, in which case it may well be worth it. The next time she will make a better choice, perhaps?
