  1. his total IgA is low but not deficient. He may be a poor producer of IgA. I am glad he is doing well
  2. meredith, my hubby has been a vegetarian-no fish, poultry, pork, beef-his entire life. His iron is great. But as a woman who has not reached menopause and is anemic, I do pay close attention to iron. I use Floravital, liquid supplement. And beets, spinach, other veggy sources. And cast iron pans only. The floravital got me through a full term pregnancy...
  3. I researched genes for many many hours. The alpha part of the celiac gene( A0501) can be found on some DQ7 genes. so having the DQ2.2 and the right DQ7 gene makes the full celiac gene. DQ2.2 has been proven in lab tests to induce gluten reaction, just not to the level of DQ2.5. Only rarely does it pass the threshold to cause villi damage.
  4. how long have you been gluten-free? I got heartburn easier from fattier food than when I ate gluten, but not often. For the first couple of months after going off gluten I got cramps, some bad. I didn't get them before, only mild uncomfortable feeling. There is a disorder that effects moisture producing linings called Sjorgens. I don't know if...
  5. The difference between celiac and cystic fibrosis is easy: With celiac you only need one gene. With cystic fibrosis you HAVE to have two copies of the gene, one from mom and one from dad.
  6. hi. deficiant IgA levels make testing unreliable on the IgA level. You can still test on the IgG antibodies with blood work. Enterolab tests for IgA antibodies. My daughter's total IgA level was low, but still in the normal realm. so the lab her blood work went to did not test for IgG antibodies. Her enterolab score was the highest negative possible...
  7. what tests are there to test for candida? my homeopath told me that my shoulder pain was related to gluten and sugar.
  8. I know it has been awhile, but I remembered answering this. Interestingly, I got my dd results back. She is DQ5 and DQ6. I was wondering, healthy girl, sorry if I am being nosy, but do you have any other health problems not fixed by being gluten intolerant and any other problems associated with gluten intolerance. I am wondering because my dd is...
  9. all information I have read so far says that once gluten intolerance causing celiac is triggered then it is never fully gone. I do find it interesting that bacteria could be responsible, but I doubt the study has gone on long enough to see if the gluten reaction does not come back eventually. I wonder if in more years these people "cured" by antibiotics...
  10. Thanks. I am going in Dec/Jan, so I still have awhile. Just making plans now. It is so reassuring to know that I will be somewhere so celiac friendly. I haven't gone far since going gluten free. The last time I went anywhere was only 90 minutes away and I got so unbelievably sick. Thanks for the help. We may end up staying at a moderate hotel. One...
  11. hi, I just wanted to add this Say someone has the genes for celiac. They become gluten intolerant and continue eating gluten unaware and in a few months or years they have damaged villi known as celiac disease. Say someone else doesn't have the genes for celiac. They become gluten intolerant and continue eating gluten unaware. Instead of a few months...
  12. the whole thing can be confusing. Do you know your genes? Most celiacs tested have the main 2 genes. Also who is to say the gluten intolerance won't cause celiac disease later or intestional cancers. I have not found any research on gluten intolerant people without celiac disease and without the main genes that followed them for years on a gluten diet...
  13. we are on a budget and are going during most expensive time of year. We will be staying at one of the all star hotels. Is one better than another or are they about the same. I know they have food courts. I can use the microwave in the food court, and get a frig for the room. I am nervous cause I always get sick on vacation for several years now. Hoping...
  14. When I first gave up wheat in 1995 it was because of internal itching ALL OVER. It was terrible. I thought I would go crazy. It went away in a week after giving up wheat. I stupidly went back to eating but never had as severe issues with internal itching.
  15. I get rashes on my hands. It is called Dyshidrosis, also termed Dyshidrotic Eczema, Pompholyx and Dyshidrotic Dermatitis. It only occurs on the hands and feet. Dh typically is on knees, back, arms, buttocks. Mine is absolutely related to wheat. Someone on her a while ago said hers was related to all her food intolrances, not just gluten. She also could...
  16. Someone on here said they had seen a balsamic vinegar that had gluten added. I think it was barley. Also the mustard and ketchup. Maybe you can't handle dairy well either
  17. Did they tell you what genes you do have?
  18. Hey Nora, Thanks for your input. About the alpha part of the genes(DQA1)...the DQ7 genes are where the alpha half of the half celiac gene is located. But only some of the DQ 7 genes has the corresponding alpha celiac gene. With the enterolab tests you only get the beta part not the alpha part. With the DQ7 genes with the celiac alpha part it is...
  19. A reward is a great idea. I think she would definately stick to it for something good. Thanks for the idea. She has been coming around to it slowly. At first she didn't want to go gluten free. Then one day her twin brother had had enough and told her she should just go gluten free cause she is so cranky!! She said ok. Things got better. I will definately...
  20. She wanted proof to stop eating gluten. I can control what she eats when I am around, but she comes home with bagels and such from school. I pack her lunch so I know that is gluten free. I think she has noticed a difference enough having very limited gluten the last month to do a gluten free diet and then challenge it. I just wanted a definate answer...
  21. I don't know much about this. My daughter's total IgA was 57 in a range of 41-368. This is not deficient, but is at the low levels of normal. does that matter? Any info is appreciated. They only ran the tTg IgA test and no others. I requested the others and told they would be run. ugh. so then after they told me she didn't have celiac I had...
  22. I got a copy of my dd total Iga levels. They are 57 out of a range of 41 to 368. That is not deficient, but seems low. I don't know really since she is seven though. Any opinions or information are welcome. Thanks.
  23. removing gluten helped the most, then dairy went and I got even better. When I had the Gluten dairy constipation certain foods worked to get things moving. It was no always fun, but was good to feel cleaned out. Kiwis, eggplant, gapes and cherries. I didn't eat just a serving, but lots. We live in the country and grow food. We get crops in and eat lots...
  24. I have sensitivities to some, but not all. As a kid I reacted to pink gas station soap by getting rashes at my wrists. I have had rashes from the pink dyed insulation but not the non formaldhyde white insulation. As a kid I couldn't breath around those cheap kid's perfumes. Fragrences still really bother me, but I do okay with essential oils. It is the...
  25. I am sorry. I get constipation from gluten, dairy, and maybe too much corn? Still figuring out corn. Hope it passes soon.
