  1. hi, This is all so informative. As I said before I was one of those kids who lost emotional control at times. Now my daughter can be so cranky and moody. She is 7. Here brother was easily angered when littler then her, but grew out of it. I guess I thought she would to. I am awaiting her enterolab test. Her tTg antibody test came back negative. ...
  2. Hi, These are both subtypes of DQ1, however they can be called DQ5 and DQ6. The vast majority of genetically tested celiacs(realizing not all of them have been genetically tested) shows they have DQ2.5 or DQ8. However, a very few do not have these genes. Of these some have DQ5 and some have DQ6( I remember seeing this in cases in Mexico). DQ5 has...
  3. hi, you are having a reaction to gluten and casein. You have a small number of antibodies to the human tissue transglutaminase. It looks like you caught this early enough to not have a high number and no malabsorption according to this test. I would proceed gluten and casein free and see how it goes. I went gluten free and then casein free. Gluten effects...
  4. hi, you have my sympathy. Honestly, this reminds me of me at that age some. I would lose control. It was terrible. I knew I was being a brat but couldn't stop. Eventually it mellowed out. I also had depression, anxiety, D and vomiting, joint pain. Now I think I was gluten intolerant back then, but no one realized it. If it is a reaction, she can...
  5. What are symptoms of candida overgrowth? I know the female type, but what about other symptoms? Thanks

    ARCHIVED Positive Doctor Conversation

Our doctor called today about tests my hubby had done(not related to celiac). I haven't seen him in about 5 years. I usually see the lady PAs for my yearly exam. I told him I had gave up gluten several months ago. He sounded excited and said." You just may have sprue." I said there was no way I would go back to eating gluten just to test for it. He...
  7. hi, could you be more specific. one, are you gluten free now? It doesn't sound like you are. two, when you were gluten free, how long were you gluten free for? Was this before your diagnosis or after? three, You responded to the diet, why didn't you stick to it? The tests have false negatives, You have the gene. This does not mean you HAVE celiac...
  8. Hi. I have been a vegetarian for many years of my life. I don't handle meat well. I currently eat some fish and chicken because I don't digest nuts, think I may have a problem with soy. I mainly eat beans and soy for protein, but have tried to cut back on the soy. I don't eat meat everyday. And now I noticed salmon is hard for me to digest too....
  9. I went to the eye doctor shortly after going off gluten. He checked my eyes for autoimmune damage and said they looked good. I did have vision changes when having my gluten poisoned spells. I have not had that happen once since being off gluten. I hope my eyesight gets better. That would be great!
  10. with your dietary response and family history I would not risk developing any more damage. I don't know if I am just gluten intolerant or full blown celiac. But I do know I do not want to be full blown celiac and my life is better without it. No one has proven to me that gluten intolerant people without celiac don't have a higher risk to the same cancers...
  11. HI. I don't know when the best time to test is. I know that they recommend all 1st degree relatives get checked even if they don't have symptoms. My daughter has non classic symptoms and we are pursueing testing. There are some site with lists of symptoms that you may not be aware of mouth sores delayed growth irratability(hard to tell in a 3 yr...
  12. hi, I understand your need to know something more concrete. My daughter at 7 knows she wants some medical proof. I am sending out her enterolab samples today. Her tTg blood work was negative and the lab didn't check the anti-EMA or anti-gliadin antibodies. Annoying. It is harder with kids who haven't had enough damage done to be sick or are asymptomatic...
  13. A dr. told me years ago that "they" have found milk antibodies in babies who had never had milk. They were reacting to it in the breast milk. At the time I had started eating dairy after not having any for months while nursing. My son got congestion and swollen glands under his ear. I stopped dairy, it went away. I ate dairy, it came back. The dr. ...
  14. If you are gluten sensitive you should avoid gluten. Eventually it could pass the "threshold" of antibodies produced and cause full blown celiac. There is a threshold and sometimes people without the celiac genes pass it. But even if you don't, your reaction could just keep getting worse and worse. Good luck. I had rashes too that are from wheat. I...
  15. Hi, I think being a vegan for ethical reasons is fine, but would not recommend it for health reasons. Vitamin B12 is only found in animal products, so as a vegan you MUST take a supplement. Some celiacs are low in B12 from it not being absorbed, so that would be double trouble. Zinc is another one you have to watch out for since it is primarily in meat...
  16. The last 2 times I had plain canned Alaskan salmon I got indigestion. This is rare for me. Is it the fat content? Or something else. Anyone else have a problem with this?
  17. Try giving them up and see how you feel. There can be longterm consequences if you ignore the problem. If it is too much at once, just cut out one at a time. I would pick gluten myself. It causes me constipation too. good luck
  18. I agree with Ridgewalker: sometimes they only run one test instead of the whole panel just to humor you. That just happened to me. UGH!!! I even took in a copy of the tests I wanted ordered. The PA said that was the one they ran. IT WAS NOT. They only checked for tTg antibodies. I was not convinced. The test can show false negatives. My daughters...
  19. I am confused. Casein is the milk protein. ????? I agree with Riceguy. If she is having an "allergic " reaction to casein, then that may never go away. Lots of people are lactose intolerant for life too, not just because of celiac. But celiac can cause lactose intolerance. Your daughter reacted to casein, so that is not lactose. Not sure what your...
  20. Did you get the antibody test done too? Do your kids have symptoms? I have 3 kids. One shows no symptoms, one has one, maybe two symptoms, and one has several. I am testing the one with several. I don't want her to develop the problems I did.
  21. I was told at the doctor's office that dark circles under the eyes are a sign of allergies. My daughter has them, I have them, and my husband. I have gluten and casein intolerance. My hubby is lactose inolerance, pecan and walnut allergy, and maybe more. My daughter I believe is also gluten intolerant. I am awaiting enterolab results on her because she...
  22. This means you do not have the 2 recognized celiac disease genes. You have one gluten sensitivity gene. Gluten intolerance can be very awful too. Did you get any of the other tests or just the gene test. Just because you could develop an intolerance does not mean you have. Do you have symptoms? Are you gluten free or not?
  23. HI, good luck. I would suggest eating basic, whole foods. Avoid processed foods as much as possible for awhile. Also damaged villi have a very difficult time digesting dairy, so that should be avoided for several months. Happy healing.
  24. Hey BBarb, I have a a bag I pack with food. I bring lots of fruit-apples, oranges, bannanas, dried apricots, raisons. Also easy veggies-celery, carrotts. sometimes I bring a little container with peanut butter with presliced celery or apples. I can alot of food, so I bring applesauce or canned pears, juice. I sometimes have a gluten free tofu dog....
  25. hi, my first Adult symptom(had symptoms as a kid) was itching all over. It was terrible. I gave up wheat and it went away. I ate wheat again, but it never returned like that. Also overdosing on sugar(like at halloween) makes my thighs itch. Then at 25 my hands got rashes. They just kept getting bigger and bigger. It was awful, I could only use the...
