ARCHIVED What Do You Do During Dinner At A Wedding?
flagbabyds replied to Merika's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Bring your own food and eat it while everyone is eating the buffett. At my cousin's wedding she was very nice and instead of having cake, they had chocolate covered stawberries which was my dinner. And you should eat in the car between the churchh and the reception bcause then you can have an energy bar and such and not look rude eating an energy bar in the... -
ARCHIVED Could My Daughter Have Celiac? Constant Hunger
flagbabyds replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Your daughter for sure has to be tested because if she doesn't she will get deathly ill and really start being sick all the time. I would also suggest that you go to a ped GI doctor becasue they know what they are doing and if the doctor says I don't know, then just outright ask for the celiac pannel to be done. YOu could also ask her regular doctor to order... -
ARCHIVED What's The Biopsy Like?
flagbabyds replied to Kailynsmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is one of the best surgeryies you can have because there is really no pain and really no big recovery. All of mine I have just been a little sleepy afterwards because of the anesthesia but it get better the next day because they surgery is so short they don't need to use much of it. You might have a sore throat for a couple of hours to like 2 days, but... -

flagbabyds replied to melly's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi and Welcome My name is Molly and I just turned 15. When I first came to this board I was for sure the youngest and couldn't relate to anyone really. That was like 3 years ago or so, I really don't know. I was diagnosed when I was 20 months old and don't remember what gluten foods taste like becasue I was so little. I don't know if I have the best tasting... -

ARCHIVED Butter Or Margerine
flagbabyds replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We also use the Earth Balance. The whipped is better than the plain I think. -
Lots and Lots of protein. Now I am in the underweight range after my surgery, but my surgeon has put me on a high protein no chew diet. I have already gained 2/14 of the lbs I lost, so maybe you can get the Boost drinks or EnSure or Atkins because those have a lot of protein. Even though you have had you thyroid checked out before you should definitly...

flagbabyds replied to KaitiUSA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I found that these are all different thicknesses and when I would cook them, some would be pink inside, so I stopped having them and I have Ians instead (well, not right now, they don't stand a chance in the blender...) and they are about the same I think, I will have the Wellshire Kids ones occassionally but really cook them to make sure they are al cooked... -
I was tested and everything came back positive but the blood test so they said I didn't have it.

ARCHIVED Tortillas
flagbabyds replied to Kasey'sMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For corn tortillas that actually taste good I use Mission and they say gluten-free on the bag, so I like to support them for doing that anyway. To make it softer I put a sprinkle of water on it then put it in a paper towel and heat it in the microwave for about 10 seconds, and it is soft and you can use it for a wrap or anything. -
I went there last summer and was fine. I had the ice cream which was in little Boston batting helmets which is really cute, and my mom said she checked the ingredients with the workers. You should be able to get the popcorn. How I snuck food in was a brought a purse and a thermus full of an Amys meal. Then I bought and sweatshirt and wrapped the thermus in...

IT basicallly means that you get a cup out and just fill it with about equal parts of the 3 florus. If you don't want to do that you can do 1/3 cup of each. My mom just said equal parts because she isn't very precise with how much flours she uses.

ARCHIVED Libby's Vienna Sausage
flagbabyds posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know if they are gluten-free? I found them in my cupboard and I think they are but I am not 100% sure. Thanks -
I agree that gluten is hard to digest for all people, not just celiacs, but because wheat is so much cheaper, it is still widley used. If you want to do whole grain and gluten-free you can still do that just use healthier flours and not the starchy ones.

ARCHIVED Celiac Plus No Dairy
flagbabyds replied to karenwinslow1's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
FOr breakfast you could try FlaxJacks which are oancake things, I think that they are dairy free but I am not sure. I just used up the bag and threw it out. For snacks you can get plain Frito-Lay products w/ no milk/cheese/stuff, and look on their gluten-free list and find out which are good, they also have a lactose free list. hmmmmmm... Fruits are always... -

ARCHIVED Oats
flagbabyds replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I actually eat oats, and am perfectly fine with them. They don't make me sick, and I had a biopsy after 3 months of eating it every morning, and it was completely normal. I use Irish oats. -
I eat there but I get the items that are already gluten-free just to make sure that they are gluten-free and then tell them about contamination and stuff.

ARCHIVED How Did This Happen So Quickly?
flagbabyds replied to anniej55's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It's over! I know that celiac is so minor compared to all the other disorders that we could have. I was starving to death when I was a baby and they gave me like 5 weeks to live, they had no idea what was wrog w/ me. Hey I am still here! YOu just seem like you have a very trying attitude unlike some people I know who don't really care and think that it... -
As a celiac who has had the disease since before I can remember I really understand what you are going through. Especially your daughter. She will be thankful that she was diagnosed wehen she was little later on in life. I know my other celiac friends who were diagnosed later in life have cravings, but I don't remember what anything gluten-full tastes like...

ARCHIVED How Did This Happen So Quickly?
flagbabyds replied to anniej55's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You have the best attitude about this diet I have ever seen on this board the first time they come on. And if you start out like this, it will only get 1,000 times better. The food has improved so much since I was diagnosed. I was a baby and that was 14 yrs. ago or so. The food was hard and crumbly and had no taste. And I was a little kid and hated all of... -
ARCHIVED Get A Physical! What A Eye Opener.
flagbabyds replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Make sure that you have your own toaster because you can't clean the little things inside the toaseter. Yes make sure that all of your produts are gluten-free, everything. I don't even touch gluten because I am scared I will get a reaction even if I wash my hands. SO make sure to scrub your hands right after you make toast or cook with gluten foods. Make...
