  1. yes, reactions can take anywhere from minutes to days to appear, depending on how much gluten was ingested, the concentration of the gluten, and the severity of your condition (not that you can really have non-serious coeliac its just a question of the amount of time its been active)
  2. glad to hear that you are finnaly getting somewhere, the thing you to be careful of is hidden gluten in colourings, preservatives and flavour inhancers, ive found a lot of foods that dont have gluten in the allergy lists but do contain modified startches and things like that, so be careful and good luck. labeling on foods can be confusing so it might...
  3. welcome to the forum! i knew there were "bone heads" in the UK but i didnt realise it was that bad here...(i live in Wales).. in fact my GI is really good... only took him a few months and im one of the difficult cases keep going you are doing brilliantly, there is a lot of controversy about oats, my dietitian has told me to keep away from them...
  4. Its understandable to feel depressed at first, and its certainly not pathetic, when i was told there was even a possibility of having it i felt like crying. Freinds just dont get us, they keep saying "oh well its not serious" and "if people can become vegetarian then you can become gluten-free" but its NOT our choice, so dont worry if they dont take...
  5. im in a simular situation, my biopsy was completely normal, but my GI decided to try the deit anyway, and its working, but i still get some symptoms.(tiredness) if i cheat i get rarely sick, and you may get a more servere reaction next time than you did last time. So i never cheat. IMO, if you only get a mild reaction then the only thing stopping you...
  6. hey all im Nikky, im 15 and i live in the UK. I have 2 sisters and one brother, they are all older than me which is a bit of a pain. I have long brown hair, blue eyes and im tall and slim. I appear shy to people who dont know me but you'll soon see that im actually really talkative. I like going out with my freinds, listening to music and watching T.V. ...
  7. if you accidentally eat gluten, it doesnt set you completely back to the begining but it does do some damage, and frequent ingestion of gluten even if it is accidental will put you at risk of complications like anemia, but making a mistake once in a while shouldnt effect you too much as long as you go back to the gluten free diet and cut out the gluten-containing...
  8. darn is right, we all make mistakes at first but with time all of this will become second nature, ive been gluten free for 2 months and already im used to the new diet so keep going i was almost completely asymptomatic, when i did get a reaction it was very mild, so the only way i know ive made a mistake is if i re-read the label... which i have done...
  9. nice to meet you, im sure you'll find loads of helpful people on here thankyou everyone that has replied, all your information and advice has been really apreciated
  10. maybe the resturant isnt as carefull as they should be, or your somehow getting crosscontamination at home. ive read that symptoms can turn on and off, so you may eat gluten one week and feel perfectly fine and then eat gluten the next week and get sick, the important thing to remember with that is even though you arent feeling ill, the damage to your...

    ARCHIVED Info For My Doc?

happy to help i hope you get help for your daughter soon
  12. because she is so young the tests may not be positive but the blood work is worth a try, or you could keep her gluten free then challenge it when the results will be more reliable and my appetite (at age 15) went from non existant to uncontrollable, although it is calming down now to a more normal level the appatite soars because the body is making...
  13. dont worry your not the only one, ive come across a lot of gluten free food that has a strange after taste, i think its something to do with the alternatives they use, i have also been noticing salt more. normal food that is naturally gluten-free tastes the same to me though, maybe your just noticing how things taste more now that you feel well enough...

  15. i actually had my liver function tested nothing showd up.. im inclined to think that i have anemia again or that the hypercalcemia is effecting me more than we thought ... but both of those seem unlikely seeing as the symptoms are different to the ones i used to get with anemia
  16. thankyou, i'll run it all past my pearents and i'll talk to my GI about getting checked for deficiencies and other intolerances, luckily it wont cost me anything because of where i live thankyou both for all your advice

  19. sorry if this has been discussed before, i started the gluten-free diet 2 months ago and it seemed to be going well, but recently ive been feeling tired and just generally unwell, im also getting the same kind of pain i had when i was frequently eating gluten and as i type this i keep getting a tingling sensation in my left hand i know that i havent...

  24. its suprising and sad how many doctors are practically completely clueless, i was lucky enough to get a good GP and GI both of whom know what they are doing, i had a false negative biopsy but my consultant decided to ignore that and go with the blood results keep going with the diet and dont worry about the doctor
  25. i was going by the UK NHS ranges, i didnt realise that it varies with age either
