  1. Thanks for the article, Lisa. I didn't know about the Flex Spending account and will check that out tomorrow.
  2. YEAH!!! I missed my paninis!
  3. I had a colonoscopy done a few days before my endoscopy. I remember when the doctor came to speak to me after the procedure that she said she had gone up as high as she could and had gotten a couple biopsies of my small intestine also. At the time, I was groggy and didn't think to ask why she had done that. But at my follow-up appointment after both...
  4. I am the only one that is gluten free in my family of 5 and we have a shared kitchen. I am probably not a good one to answer this question because I am not super sensitive and actually have no symptoms when I've been glutened. The only way I know that the diet is working for me is by my bloodwork which has been 'normal' for the past 10 months so I guess...
  5. I was retested at 1 month, 3 months and 9 months. My numbers had dropped at the 1 month and 3 month tests and were in the normal range at 9 months. I was tested again 6 months after that and they are still in the normal range. I am not supersensitive and get no symptoms when glutened. I have to rely on my bloodwork to know if I'm following the diet correctly...
  6. I took Librax for about one year thirty years ago. The dr. diagnosed me with colitis and I believe it was an anti-spasmodic or something along that line. It was supposed to relax my stomach and digestive system. I took it before each meal. I don't know if it really helped or not. I was going through a really bad time with diarrhea which I guess was the...
  7. I have a 'mixed' household, also. I'm the only one of 5 that is gluten free. I have my own drawer in the fridge with my condiments, my own counter in the kitchen that no one is allowed to put anything on so it's virtually crumb free and that's where I prepare my food. I keep my own toaster on there also. I cook all the dinners and except for the occassional...
  8. Thanks, Sue! A frosted layer cake sounds like heaven.
  9. MMMMMM....sounds delish! I was going to do the same thing this weekend.....try an old recipe with the new mix. Quick question.....was the cake much smaller? I think the new BC mixes are for one layer instead of two. Thanks!
  10. I use Dove to wash my face also. I just began using Garnier Fructis moisturizer. Their customer service line is extremely helpful. I have used Neutrogena moisturizer in the past with no problems. There used to be a Neutrogena Gluten Free list floating around that I believe is now obsolete. But if you call, they are also very cooperative.
  11. LOL....don't worry, guys! I've set everyone straight. I've even tried talking to her...you know, the old there's no such thing as being a little bit pregnant, same holds true for Celiac Disease speech. She was very gracious about it and said she understood, but it was too hard to follow the diet. I do notice that she walks the other way when she sees...
  12. Congratulations! That truly is great news. I do use the Calcitonin and will go back next year for my 2nd DEXA scan....very nervous about whether it made any difference. But I am very glad for you!!
  13. When I was first diagnosed and explained to my co-workers about being gluten free, they were very nice about being careful around me in the lunchroom and making sure there was something I could eat on special occasions. About 6 weeks later, another woman I work with said she also has Celiac Disease, but just a touch of it. Every Wednesday - Bagel Day -...
  14. I believe they don't publish a list anymore. You need to call the company to check on each individual product.
  15. I use Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner. When I called last September, their phone rep told me all of their shampoo/conditioners were gluten free.
  16. I had no weight loss. I, also, had no digestive symptoms. I was diagnosed because I had osteoporosis, anemia and was lactose intolerant. My doctor was savvy enough to put that all together and test for Celiac Disease. She thought I was bleeding internally because I was extremely anemic and after nothing showed up during my colonoscopy, she did an endoscopy...
  17. My husband and children have been absolutely wonderful about coping with my Celiac and the precautions we have to take around the house. None of them have it. And two out of my 3 sisters have been very understanding....especially since I talked one of them into being tested and she also has it. But my 3rd sister....the one I live closest to and spend holidays...
  18. If you are looking for flavored coffees, all of Green Mountain's are gluten free.
  19. That IS good news! I felt the same way when I got my greatly improved bloodwork back after 6 months...the diet really does work! Keep up the good work...you're a great mom!
  20. Right now I like Ener-G brand Light Tapioca bread, but I have to admit I haven't tried that many different kinds to compare.
  21. I agree with Joan's gluten-free Great Bakes....they are the best! I think you can order them on line and they have a store in Bellmore on Long Island.
  22. I've been using Fortical nasal spray for almost a year for my osteoporosis. I haven't been back for a bone scan, so I'm no sure if it's had any positive effects. I tried Boniva for a few months and had a bad reaction so the dr. decided to try this. From what I understand, it doesn't help to build bone density but just prevents you from losing any more...
  23. Sambuca at 20 West 72nd Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue is an excellent Italian restaurant. They have a separate gluten-free menu and are very aware of cross contamination. They even bring you your own piece of gluten free bread and have a gluten free brownie on the dessert menu. I just ate there last night and highly recommend it...
  24. Glad everything went well and you don't have to worry about that anymore!
  25. My house isn't gluten free either. I'm the only one in a family of 5 that has Celiac Disease. I will admit I was a little paranoid the first couple months after diagnosis, but it does become easier with time. I, too, have safeguards in the kitchen... my own drawer in the fridge with my condiments, my own counter in the kitchen that no one is allowed...
