  1. Have you considered the possibility of MS? (Multiple Sclerosis). MS and celiac disease are linked by some gene. Reading your post, it amazed me how many symptoms you described that falls into the MS category. I have recently just finished researching this as my dr. is sending me to a rheumatologist for continued joint stiffness/pain, and I thought I...
  2. Thanks for mentioning that Bruce. I use that list quite often and I guess I was starting to feel "too safe" with it. It always is a good reminder that we still need to read EVERYTHING!! Hope you didn't suffer any ill effects.... Karen
  3. Mine is also the same as celiac3270's and Kaiti's..... Maybe your screen needs to be reformatted in some way..... Just guessing, I know very little about computers!!!!! Karen
  4. Hi Gina, I just wanted to tell you that we are behind you to give you any support we can. I too was in the same boat as you, thinking the diagnosis had come too late.... I had continuing symptoms (chronic diarrhea, anemia, etc. etc.) for years and the gluten-free diet just wasn't getting it under control. The doctor mentioned to me the possibility...
  5. I find Delphi's list the most extensive..... Go to www.delphiforums.com click on the left hand side the category "Health & Wellness" the very first forum to come up is the celiac forum. Their lists are broken down into categories which makes it much simpler to look up a particular item. Karen
  6. I'm so glad you guys have found us here. There are a bunch of really great people here who are both very supportive and knowledgeable and are always willing to answer any questions you might have. Welcome to the forum! Karen
  7. Yes, I looked it up on the list at delphi forums. It is gluten free..... Enjoy! Karen
  8. Since I have found out there are gluten-free options at Swiss Chalet, I have eaten it twice in the last two weeks! Both times, I have had no problems afterward. Happy Eating! Karen
  9. It's quite interesting what our instincts to for us. Here is a story I will share: When I was a kid, my mom had a huge problem with getting me to eat. Nobody could figure out why I had such a poor appetite. Also, I was always anemic as a child. I can remember going for the weekly pin pricks in my finger. Anyway, the only thing my mom could get me...
  10. This sounds really interesting. This company just got a huge grant to continue studying a cure for celiac. Sounds like they think they are on the right track.... ............................... Alba Therapeutics reports breakthrough diabetes results Scientists at Alba Therapeutics Corporation and the University of Maryland School of Medicine have...
  11. Hi Stacie, Boy, have I been down that road.... Immodium, Lomotil (which I found out had gluten in it), everything under the sun the dr. gave me didn't work. I had permanent diarrhea for almost a decade! Sometimes 10 - 12 time a day. I also was not able to keep it in. I always had to stay close to the bathroom.... After years of this, my celiac...
  12. I have this list printed out and take it shopping with me. Someone just posted it over at delphi and reminded me that I may not have posted it here for the newbies. You will be amazed at how much stuff we can have!!!! Remember though, this is Kraft Canada, I can't guarantee that Kraft in the U.S. is the same....... Happy Shopping!!!! Here is the...
  13. I also use Jamieson vitamins.... Also, if you are wondering about over the counter medications, go to www.glutenfreedrugs.com they have a very good list of things that are gluten-free that you can take. You have to be very careful with over the counter meds. I made the mistake of thinking Gas-X chewables were gluten-free and I was eating them...
  14. I eat them all the time, I never get a reaction. I have read on more than one list that they are gluten-free.... Karen
  15. Well, Mister Readingracer!!!! I sure is a relief to hear from you!!!! I am glad you are home safely and it sounds like it's wasn't exactly a walk in the park, eh? Oh well, it will all be worth it once you start feeling so much better than you have in years!! God was watching out for you in regards to the doctors telling you that you were very lucky...
  16. I thought for sure celiac3270 would have visited here to give us an update. I am kinda worried now. I am sending more prayers his way that everything is okay..... Hugs, Karen
  17. Here is a website that is very interesting and I think would be very helpful to not only newbies, but those who are looking to get the right kind of information to get the correct tests done, etc. Open Original Shared Link Have a great day! Karen
  18. I agree, Dessa, It's not that we are trying to be armchair doctors here. We are all aware that the medical establishment by and large is quite unaware of celiac, thus the large number of population that remains undiagnosed. I don't agree with those who take the approach, "Well, I know what is wrong with you..... yada, yada..." but I see nothing wrong...
  19. Hi BamBam, This might be exactly what you are looking for....... Open Original Shared Link Have a great day! Karen
  20. Wow Stef, Sounds like you have a real sweety there..... That was incredibly considerate.... Hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day.... Hugs, Karen (who is hoping to at least get a card when hubby gets home......)
  21. I wouldn't worry about it too much, my first try was a total disaster also. I have since learned that with gluten free bread, it is imperative that you use quick rise yeast. Also, apparently the yeast must be room temperature. If you are looking for some good recipes, there is a lady named Mireille over in the delphiforums that has a vast array of recipes...
  22. celiac3270, I know you are probably already in bed getting a good rest for tomorrow but I wanted to wish you luck and send you healthy vibes..... You will do fine tomorrow and I will be thinking about you all day tomorrow!! A new world is opening up for you!!!! Good Luck!!!! Karen
  23. Wow, that sounds like a really complicated ranking system. Also, since there is no "exact science" way of choosing, sounds like luck has to be involved also.... I really wish you luck and hope you make it! It must be tough sometimes doing such a physical sport with celiac disease and the symptoms that go along with it. You must be one resilient cookie...
  24. That's a really useful tool, celiac3270. It will help newbies alot.... Did you ever try the chat section at Delphi? I'm not really into chat rooms, so I haven't tried it, just wondered if it works..... Again, I am so happy for you that you have found the source of your problems and now see a light at the end of the tunnel.... Life to about to change...
  25. Hi Stef: I hope you make the team..... I think it was probably Meadowvale, it's in the east part of the city, very close to where I used to live (until I moved just out of the city in January). If you don't mind me asking, I don't know what your specialty sport is.... I am trying to guess that maybe your name gives a clue..... is it kick boxing or karate...
