  1. Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you are having a hard time. I think your idea to wear a mask is a really good one, I would also wear gloves, take a hot shower after work to get rid of any traces of gluten in your hair and on your skin, also wash your clothes straight away so that you don't have any contamination issues there. It sounds like a lot of trouble...
  2. Yep Yep My main symptoms were diarrhea followed by days of constipation. The diarrhea has gone away since going gluten-free but I still occasionally have a bit of a problem with slight constipation and bloating. It sounds a little silly but I eat lots of curry and that seems to help. lol. I also eat a lot of fresh vegetables and add flax seed to...
  3. Hi, I'm actually in Australia but I usually spend 3 or 4 months of every year working in the UK, I usually stay with family in Harpenden. If anyone can recommend gluten-free places to eat in and around London I would really appreciate it
  4. Grrrrr Aren't doctors meant to be smart?! If you have been gluten free for fourteen years of course your blood tests would be negative (even if you slip up every now and then). I had a similar issue when I went for a diagnosis, I had already been gluten lite for about six months when I went to get blood tests, of course the tests came back negative and...
  5. Here are a few that I have heard of: Grapefruit seed extract Garlic Olive leaf extract Aloe vera juice Coconut oil I have heard that some people cut out potato etc? I can understand giving up the fruit because of all the sugar, but Vegetables??? Is there any reason to cut out vegetables or carbs?
  6. Thanks for the advice What sort of symptoms can I expect with the die off? How will I know when it is ok to start adding fruit etc back in my diet?
  7. Hi, I suspected that I had celiac disease because I had all the symptoms and a family history. I went gluten lite (no bread or past but had not even considered food additives etc) for about six months before going to see a gastroenterologist who told me that I had to go back onto the gluten for one meal a day for a month. After a week I was so sick that...
  8. The soy milk thing frustrates me to no end - Lactose intolerance is really common amongst celiac patients yet almost all soy milks have gluten! And for no apparent reason. One of the most frustrating thing in all of this is when gluten shows up in something that has no need for it, such as soy milk, pasta sauce and sweets! It would be so easy to make all...
  9. Hi, I get lightheaded a lot, and I also get brainfog, they are most definitely different. Being lightheaded I have trouble walking up stairs and I kind of feel like I sway when in fact I am completely still. Brainfog is more the inability to concentrate. I get brainfog when I get glutened but the lightheaded feeling for me is more associated with the ear...
  10. Hi, I'm wanting to start the anti candida diet. I know that I should cut out sugars, mushrooms, vinegars and fruits but I'm unsure about what else I need to do. What do I need to keep out of my diet permanently and what can I add in (and after how long). I would really appreciate any advise from anyone who has tried this. Thanks
  11. Hi, I have actually thrown out the packet, but I had a brief scan and couldn't see anything that was wheat based or might contain gluten. It was just the usual stuff: soy, rice and tapioca flour etc.
  12. It so interesting that so many of us have had ear problems. I actually have scars on my ear drums from having so many ear infections. They started when I was around 2, as soon as one would clear up another one would start. I have had ringing in my ears since I was sixteen. I have not had an ear infection since going gluten lite around 8 months ago, but...
  13. I didn't notice it on the box, it had a pretty basic ingredients list, a couple of different gluten-free flours etc I think perhaps it is manufactured somewhere that also processes gluten products. Thanks for the heads up about the wheat starch, I'll look out for it
  14. Mystery solved! My fiance pointed out that I got sick the last time I ate the orange and poppyseed muffins. I don't have allergies to any of the ingredients on the box. The box states that they are gluten free but I get a gluten like reaction from them. Very disappointing...
  15. Hi, I am having a similar problem. I have been gluten-free for a couple of months. Most of my stomach symptoms have gone but I still feel a lot of fatigue. I also get a lot of stomach symptoms from dairy. I find that hard cheeses are ok but anything with a lot of lactose like milk, sour cream or soft cheeses make me sick. I would suggest you keep a food...
  16. I am vegetarian, gluten free and mostly lactose free (I stick to hard cheeses that contain very little lactose). I eat a lot of mexican food, bean tacos, bean buritos with corn tortillas, or egg based meals like vegetarian frittatas, omelets. Also asian food is good for this, vegetarian stir fries seasoned with sesame oil, arlic onion and ginger. There...
  17. Hi, Has any other Australians out there found that they are having a reaction to the gluten free 'orange and poppyseed muffins' available at safeway/woolworths? It is a packet mix that you make up yourself. I have tried them twice and had a gluten like reaction. I think the product is a safeway brand.
  18. You are kind of answering your own questions in your post. You are right about one thing, it is really hard. I am also going through a hard time, I am questioning my health, maybe I have an additional health issue? The main motivator for me is the increased risk of cancer celiac patients get from eating gluten, its something like 70% more likely. As for...
  19. Pretty much I went gluten lite for about six months before I had to go back onto gluten to get a biopsy. I was so so much sicker than I had ever been before. I have now been completely gluten free for a couple of months and even the tiniest amount (like a food additive or cross contamination) makes me sick within an hour or so. I guess as our bodies get...
  20. Hi, Everyone needs to decide for themselves if they want to o ahead with testing. You should keep in mind that there are other reasons for celiac type symptoms (eg lyme disease or bowl polyps/cancers). Another thing is that if you do decide to get tested, you should not get go gluten free beforehand as this will make the results inaccurate. You would...
  21. What is in the muesli? some seeds etc are hard to digest and can come out the same way. I have been gluten-free for a couple of months now and have been having a similar problem with a lot of my foods. In order to help with this I have been eating rice porridge for breakfast and soups or salads for my main meals. This is definitely helping. I know that...

    ARCHIVED Kissing

This sounds odd, but I think it depends on what type of kissing you are doing, lol If he has wiped his mouth and doesn't have and crumbs or anything then I think a peck or two is ok. But bushing teeth and mouthwash are a good idea before you attempt anything...ahem...more vigorous. This is my general rule of thumb good luck
  23. Hi, celiac disease symptoms are everything and nothing. A lot of people never know they have it until it results in cancer. For those of us who do get symptoms they can differ a great deal between patients, this is why celiac disease is often so hard to diagnose. When you go see the new doctor, give them all the information slowly and clearly, don't exaggerate...
  24. when you see the dermatologist ask them to do a biopsy of the effected area, not just a scraping but a proper biopsy. If you want a diagnosis you could consider getting a small intestine biopsy but you would need to go back onto the gluten (same for the blood tests, you would need to be on gluten for the antibodies to show up). I have an itchy, blistery...
  25. flax seed oil is really good for healing the gut, multivitamins will help you while you are still having trouble absorbing, other than that it is just a matter of sticking to gluten-free easy to digest foods. You might be able to find some herbal teas that help with your symptoms (eg: nettle tea if you have constipation) just make sure that they are gluten...
