  1. Ok, I had such a bad night last night, I spent most of the night with my head in the toilet trying to vomit (lovely mental image I know) and I'm still all gurgley down there today. I was definitely gluten free all yesterday. The only new things that I had in my diet were: 1. gluten free orange and poppy seed muffins with Philadelphia cheese/icing...
  2. I have the exact same reaction to strawberries and some other things, but this is only the case when they are raw, strawberry jams or bits of strawberries in muffins etc are fine, I don't get this reaction from them.
  3. Hi, This is tricky. I don't work in the food industry, but I have been glutened by not being too careful around gluten products. Last time it happened I was playing with my nieces and their playdoh (made from wheat flour). I must have rubbed my mouth or something because I was pretty sick. Having said that, I make my fiance's sandwiches to take to work...
  4. No, I really should have. They usually get it right when we eat in and deal directly with the chef or manager. They are pretty new to offering gluten-free food and I think that most of their staff don't even know what gluten is. LOL I might just stick to 'crown pizza and rib' in reservoir which is still pretty close to where we are. They are a little more...
  5. I was wondering when somebody was going to reply! Thanks for all the info
  6. Hi, I have also been very skinny my whole life, I was just under a hundred pounds when I was diagnosed and have found that I have gained about ten pounds since going gluten free. My doctor says that this is pretty normal because celiacs who go gluten-free are finally starting to absorb their food properly. You are probably feeling hungry all the time because...
  7. Hi, I'm glad you are having such success with this product. However, you should be careful about staying on it too long or dosing yourself with too much as your body will get used to having this help and will not want to function without it. Perhaps you could slowly reduce your dosage, or only use it if you are having stomach problems.
  8. Hi, 37 is the average body temp for healthy people (eg: if a bunch of healthy people are herded together and their temperatures taken the average would be 37), this is only a guide, it doesn't mean that if you are slightly above or slightly below that there is something wrong with you. My body temperature is usually 36.7 and that is just what is normal for...
  9. Hi, I agree with what 'rice guy' has already said. There are also a few things that you can do to speed up healing. Try adding flax seed oil to your diet, taking multivitamins (I find the soluble ones easier on the gut), eating whole foods, and of course staying gluten free. I found that a lot of the alternative flours hard to digest, so I mostly stay...
  10. WARNING!!!! I thought I would share my latest gluten free disappointment with you guys I regularly eat the gluten free pizza's at casa bella restaurant in northland, they taste just the same as the regular pizza. However, I ordered a take away pizza yesterday for lunch and was at first told that they do not do gluten free pizza, after arguing with...
  11. Hi, Well done for starting such a heated debate I have also had problems with balsamic vinegar. I know it is meant to be gluten free, but I have reacted to it several times even having chosen ones that are meant to be 100% balsamic. I have no idea why, perhaps it is another allergy that I am unaware of. I usually just ask for lemon juice and olive oil...
  12. Hi, Its not that I don't trust the information on this site, actually I have found it really helpful. I think the problem is more geograffic. I have not looked at the articles on this site regarding oats, however I live in Australia and we have an organization called 'the celiac society of australia' that provide a lot of up to date, australia based resources...
  13. I guess the main problem is when gluten in a personal product such as soap comes into contact with your hands which you then use to handle your food or chew your nails etc. I am not one for paranoia, and have only replaced hand soap and lipsticks, but I would not totally dismiss the skin product issue as it can certainly play a part, particularly if people...
  14. I sometimes add honey and flax seed oil. I've also added diced apple before I microwave it, the apple bits get all soft and yummy I guess you could add just about anything though. I also like basco honey rings, or I make eggs. I found breakfast one of the most challening meals to replace as I used to love vegimite on toast. gluten-free vege spread...
  15. Yes it does get easier. Eating gluten free has become second nature for me. I still feel a bit frustrated not being able to eat out at many places or at other peoples houses, but this is a small frustration compared to how much better I feel without the gluten in my diet. It takes a while to adjust to the alternative foods, mainly because you will still be...
  16. Hi, I'm starting to think that I'm allergic to soy. I recently stayed for a few days with my brother and his family, they use soy milk that uses barley as a thickener therefore I could not have any for the time I was there. I found that I had much more energy off the soy. Not really sure about neurological vs stomach symptoms, for me it was an energy thing...
  17. Hi, I use Tamari which is a wheat free soy sauce available at most health food stores. Other soy is fine unless you have an additional allergy, eg. tofu is ok as long as you check with the company about any flavors or additives. I have had a similar experience with nutritionalists, mostly they aren't very informed. Good luck going gluten free, its...
  18. Hi, I usually take in a salad, gluten-free pasta or potato salad if you need something more filling. Also I carry around gluten free snack bars with me everywhere I go incase I get hungry and tempted. You could try having your usual lunch but using gluten free bread, but to be honest, most gluten-free breads taste like a kitchen sponge. You could try...
  19. Yep, I have a problem with bandaids. I get red and itchy and have on occasion developed a huge puss filled blister if I leave it on too long. I find that I react even to the 'sensitive skin' ones. The worst reaction I had was when a doctor used those steri strip things instead of stiches for a wound, I had blisters that took weeks to heal. eewwwwwwwwww
  20. Hi and welcome! Check out a post on this forum called 'lunchbox ideas' - 'missy's mum' has some really fun meals for kids, I tried a couple on my nieces (Jenny is 2yo and Lucy is 4yo) recently and they really loved them, even Lucy who is notorious for being difficult at the dinner table. Good Luck
  21. OMG I am so excited!!! Just came from coles where I bought gluten free ice-cream!!! 'purechill organic ice-cream' is labeled as gluten-free: comes in vanilla, chocolate, blueberry, rasberry and mango. Tried the blueberry and it is really good, creamy and delicious. is around $7 for a one litre tub.
  22. Hi, Thanks 'gfp' for the information. I am only recently gluten free and I'm usually in England for a few months every year. I just assumed that because of the large population, the UK would have a lot more gluten-free options and be a haven for celiacs. apparently I was wrong!
  23. Hi, Its always tough with these things because the symptoms of a tummy bug can be eerily close to the symptoms of being glutened. One thing you could do is contact the place that you ate and talk to the chef about the ingredients. I find that its always a good idea to ask the staff about gluten free dishes whenever I eat out, and if they don't have anything...
  24. Hi, I have never used coconut oil in cooking but I have used it in a lot of organic personal care products like shampoo, conditioner, soap etc and I have had good results with these things. However, after reading the other posts I'm thinking about trying it in my cooking as well.
  25. Hi, It sounds likely that you have celiac disease, even if the biopsy is negative I would still try the gluten free diet for a while to see how you feel, as the biopsy is not always accurate (lots and lots of intestine and only a few samples taken). Anyway, I'm in Australia and I think that we might get a lot of the same products as in New Zealand, so...
