  1. Good question! My daughters - almost 8 and in 2nd grade and 4 and in an early education program for her speech (celiac related) are sensitive. I have started to have them pack cloth placemats that I wash - a clean one every day. They place their food on the pacemats (and their lunchboxes on the placemats). This seems to be doing the trick both for physical...
  2. Thank you for this heads up. My daughter's diet is restricted to quinoa, amaranth and tapioca so I have included a lot of Nu-World products. I will keep a closer eye on her behavior based on her consumption or maybe even toss all of my stuff??? Hate to do that!!!! Really appreciate your note!
  3. I read your latest post and I have to agree with the last writers - for his age, go with the chocolate cake and brownie, etc! Again, I am sooo sorry about this recent disappointment. Gluten free items are getting tastier and more available now - you will find a class tradition that will work for you!!! Best of luck!
  4. I am sorry to hear about your child's experience! My daughter's second grade class all enjoyed their Koala Krisp cereal treats and Jell-O jigglers today. I did cut them all out in heart shapes and arrange them on plates. No comments about being different food. There were two boys in her class that picked on the food for a little while during previous parties...
  5. I have a daughter on lots of calcium supplements since she is celiac and allergic to dairy. She is also allergic to nuts, seeds and other natural magnesium sources. Do any of you add magnesium to your kids calcium supplements? I am considering options and curious about any feedback you guys have....thanks!
  6. I was all gung hoe to start a R.O.C.K. chapter closer to us, got all the paperwork then we had job loss. If you are interested, R.O.C.K. looks very simple to start!! MIMommy, PM me if you don't mind so we can exchange info - I did join Tri-County but never made it to a meeting despite my interest because of the drive (and since let the membership lapse)....
  7. I have two Celiac daughters - 4 and almost 8 years old. We live near Clarkston but I go to the Troy Beaumont area for appt.s pretty regularly. Keep me posted if you find more. I also know one 1st grade little girl in Clarkston with Celiac.
  8. I grew concerned after reading Richard's comments on Log Cabin because I had read that they were gluten free at another location. That is what I have been using daily for my very, very celiac toddler. She has shown no signs of reaction (and she is very sensitive) I immediately wrote to Log Cabin telling them that my celiac daughter uses their product and...
  9. We recently found a big bag of Naked Nuggets for a reasonable price at Costco of all places. They are in the freezer section and they are good. They are not all breaded tasting and my children like them best fried - 2-3 minutes per side. I think the best taste is in Grapeseed Oil, but I tend to be a little picky (-; I also agree on making your own and freezing...
  10. When my girls get gluttened, I give them a dose of George's Aloe Vera juice immediately. It is amazing how quickly they recover. One has emotional responses and the other, physical. The aloe vera juice seems to work for both. I like George's brand because it tastes like water and you do not have to store it in the fridge. I have other medical issues and no...
  11. Happy New Year! My church is organizing an allergy free snack distribution/awareness group. I am researching individually wrapped snack ideas for youth - ideally gluten free and allergen free. Even if just gluten-free, I would welcome any suggestions that you have. Any ideas of easy, yummy snacks for little ones? Of course, I am digging online for options...
  12. If you are talking about the bag with purple writing that says pancakes and waffles, my girls also like the coffee cake that you can make from the mix (recipe is on the side of the bag). It was a hit, so I wrapped individual pieces and froze them for later use....
  13. Hi! I am a meddling little sister. I have been raising two celiac children and am adjusted to the gluten-free lifestyle. My sister is nearing 50 years old and just got diagnosed. We live accross the country from each other and she is overwhelmed. I can tell that she is not up to par and not handling information at top speed, not to mention shocked. I wish...
  14. The current "Living Without" magazine also has lots of yummy looking Christmas cookie recipes in it! I'm giving a bunch of them a try later this week!
  15. Both of my daughters are celiac and my husband and I were diagnosed "negative." We made the house gluten-free to avoid cross contamination. Each child now reacts severly when "glutened" - my 7 year old says that it hurts much more than it did before. We provide their own school supplies in a container with their names on it for their classrooms (they are...
  16. My nutritionist suggested George's aloe for me prior to my colectomy. It helped me a lot and I have been giving it to my two celiac daughters. They are very sensitive and do not react to the aloe. In fact, my one daughter was diagnosed with EE as well as celiac - her EE went into remission within 6 months while taking aloe (and observing a strict allergen...
  17. Thank you all for your help. I will be brave and try to make an alternate pumpkin pie this season. Purple, I went onto the site that you recommended and LOVED it! Wow! So many things to try!!!!
  18. Thank you all for your responses! The move did not go through, but I truly appreciate all of your support!
  19. I recently made a batch of pan bars using "1 2 3 Gluten Free" mix and my daughter LOVED them. The mix is quite expensive and I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for home made bars. They are like brownies but without chocolate. I used apricot sauce and the mix had a pumkin spice type flavor - she was in heaven. She is allergic to squash and ...
  20. My daughter was just turning 7 years old when diagnosed about 6 months ago. She complained of ringing in her ears prior to going gluten free and now talks about how nice it is not to have that annoying buzz in her ear(s) anymore. I never knew about it at the time - guess she just figured it was normal. She also said that her head used to hurt. Don't know...
  21. I am in Michigan and I only found fancy little bags of Target brand candy corn this year. It is flavored and colored differently than traditional candy corn - like mango with something and pink or lemonade and something and purple. I bought some because it was Target brand but it does say that it shares equipment with peanuts and other stuff. I am going to...
  22. Just curious - have any of you melted those store-bought chocolate chips (I think they are Enjoy-Life or Ener-G...I can't remember the brand) that are gluten-free and df into shapes? Before I waste any product, I wanted to see if there were already success stores. Thanks!
  23. I am so sorry to hear about your son's experience. I send my girls to school with a closed plastic conatiner of crayons, pencils, erasers, soap, markers, glue, scissors, etc. I wrote on the lid that hands must be washed well before opening the container to avoid cross contamination. Only my girls use their supplies. I included soap because the top of the...
  24. This will be the first year that my 7 year old and 3 year old go Trick-Or-Treating diagnosed as Celiac. I have told them that they will still go, but they are not to eat any candy that they collect before Mom and Dad go through it to make sure that it is safe for them. They seem fine with it - we'll see how it goes. I went online and ordered safe candy...
  25. My 7 year old daughter also responds to gluten via behavior. Fortunately, she saves her worst for us at home and not the school staff. She has had incidents with friends. She is a different person when she has gluten in her - as it sounds like your son is when he does. I went online and printed out several pages of info for the school teacher and principal...
