ARCHIVED How Are You Preparing For The Economic Collapse?
ShayFL replied to GregC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Trickle down......The original poster talks about the Depression. Most of those folks didnt have the basics. equate that to today...i.e. power. I dont think I need to stockpile anything at this point. -
ARCHIVED Trying To Figure Things Out
ShayFL replied to Civet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually I am a Dr......just the Phd kind. A positive response to a gluten-free diet is not diagnostic of Celiac. But it does tell you that you are (at least) gluten intolerant. Either way, the cure is the same....a gluten-free diet. You need ACTUAL NUMBERS on those tests. Your doctor just saying "normal" is not sufficient. I was told my thyroid... -
ARCHIVED How Are You Preparing For The Economic Collapse?
ShayFL replied to GregC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Remember if the economy collapses you will not have electricity to cook those dried beans and rice. Are you good with a fire? Dont forget if the power is cut, there goes your stock of meats in the freezer. Better get a dehydrator and make some jerky. I have lived in FL my whole life and nearly every year a Hurricane is heading straight for me. I... -
Great...someone else to scold me when I step out of line. Have fun with it.

ARCHIVED Celiac And Irregular Menstrual Cycles
ShayFL replied to MissDigital's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My menstrual cycle got longer after going gluten-free. So, yes, it can do things to your hormones. BUT being with a man who has strong pheromones can stimulate you to ovulate (even when it isnt mid cycle or 14 days before your period). You could even ovulate twice. It is powerful stuff in men's sweat. There has been some research on it....... I... -
ARCHIVED Lots Of Gluten Vs A Tiny Bit Of Gluten
ShayFL replied to Matilda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Gluten fits nicely into opiate receptor sites in the brain. The more that get in, the better you feel (temporarily). -
ARCHIVED It's Official - Hershey's "chocolate" . . .
ShayFL replied to home-based-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I could eat candy/chocolate Hershey's would be at the bottom of my list.....I never liked any of their products. They all taste cheap and fake to me. Back when I could eat such yummies....I always had a taste for "gourmet" chocolates. Hubby used to tease that I was "high maintenance" on Valentine's Day. Guess I just liked the "real thing" afterall... -
First I will SECOND that if you are dx Celiac then you should NEVER take this product and knowingly eat gluten. NEVER. As for using it while eating out, it will not stop an auto-immune attack on your body. You might feel fine and safe, but the damage is being done silently. You only "cheat" your health when you "cheat". It is kind like the snake...

Im not a fan of carob. It DOES NOT taste the same. Plus it is a legume which I am avoiding at present. All is not lost though....I have found yummies I can enjoy. It is a neat thought though that something like chocolate can help people feel better. Just not me......

ARCHIVED I Was Doing So Well....what Happened
ShayFL replied to bakingbarb's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just bought these and they are gluten-free: Open Original Shared Link I am going to challenge corn soon with these. I have not eaten corn in quite a few years. Hoping gluten was the main issue and corn will be o.k. now. I have to work up to it though. They expire Feb 09....so I have time. -
ARCHIVED Eating Enough Post Diagnosis
ShayFL replied to Knightley's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have happily gained 5 pounds back! I added SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) cookies to my diet. You need almond flour (Bob's or my fav. is Digestivewellness.com). The cookies are super easy to make, yummy and high calorie plus good nutrition. There are a variety of kinds. I made spice cookies this morning. I also make almond/raspberry cookies... -
ARCHIVED Weird Snsations And Body Aches.....
ShayFL replied to GlutenGuy36's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Did they test your vit/mins? B12? Ferritin/Iron? Folic Acid? Calcium? Magnesium? Was your thyroid tested? Those symptoms could be low thyroid which is prevalent in Celiacs. TSH Free T4 Free T3 And both antibodies TSH should be under 3 per the new guidelines. But I was SEVERELY hypothyroid with a TSH of 2.8. Do scour for CC issues... -
ARCHIVED New To The Gfdf Lifestyle
ShayFL replied to lostmystic76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I will eat gluten-free products that are manufactured in a facility with wheat IF they say "good manufacturing practices used to prevent CC......" Personally my thinking is that products that are labeled gluten-free but do not specifically say that they are manufactured in a certified gluten free facility and do not have ANY other information are far more... -
ARCHIVED An Attempt At Gluten Free Dating
ShayFL replied to Erin Elaine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Im married. But I met my husband online (Match.com) 7 years ago. If I was dating again, I would place my ad with information about my dietary restrictions. Just put it out there up front. Dates would be "non-eating" events for "initial getting to know"....coffee....bowling....whatever you enjoy. Then pic-nics are a good idea. And of course cooking... -

ARCHIVED How Do I Make My Stools Firm?
ShayFL replied to one more mile's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When mine flares up I use witch hazel. I soak a cotton ball with each BM and press it on the spot for a bit after I very carefully wipe. -
ARCHIVED Help With Dd
ShayFL replied to nitu-752002's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If she is sensitive to corn it sure can. Try Hemp milk. It tastes good and has the nutrition she needs. It might be worthwhile to try 100% gluten free diet. But that means NO oats unless certified gluten-free (Bob's is one). No Wheat, Rye, Barley or Oats. -
ARCHIVED Another Neurology Question
ShayFL replied to eta5's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I use Jarrow B12 subs and Pure Encapsulation liquid (hold in my mouth for 3 minutes or so). Both gluten-free. -
Man....I love chocolate....but it doesnt love me. I can eat it and feel fine, but a day later SEVERE DEPRESSION. I quit eating it for a year or so and then try eating it again. The same result every time. I just ate some 3 weeks ago in chocolate chip cookies (gluten-free of course). And within 24 hours I was in the depression "pit". Rats!!

ARCHIVED Help With Daugters Test Results
ShayFL replied to momof7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes Celiacs can have blood in the stool. But it may be from another cause too. IgA is just a test to see if she produces that antibody. She does. So any other tests that are performed hat use IgA will be accurate for her. Some people are deficient in this antibody and therefore a lot of tests are useless for them. It has nothing to do with Celiac... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results For 4yo Ds.
ShayFL replied to thundersweet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think a gluten-free diet is worth trying to see if his skin clears up. -
ARCHIVED Another Neurology Question
ShayFL replied to eta5's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Im healing. Migraines gone. Neuropathy nearly gone. Vertigo better. Depression Gone. ALL neurological symptoms.....I am healing on a gluten-free diet. And so are many others on this board. That article was incorrect. -
If you can get your insurance to pay....by all means get the gene test. It is not diagnostic, but another piece to the puzzle. You might be more inclined to try the diet if you have the genes which could result in better health. In my case...NEG blood...refused biopsy...NEG genes....POS response to the diet.

ShayFL replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
That bread sounds interesting....might give it a go. www.digestivewellness.com makes the BEST almond flour. You can buy in bulk and freeze it. It will keep a long time.
