Vicky...you had a POS biopsy....the gold standard for Celiac AND you have a Celiac gene. You are Celiac, whether you believe so or not. It isnt latent. And I assume some sort of symptoms got you to the GI doctor. You say you are improved. Do you want those symptoms to come back? Are a return of symptoms not enough to convince you? Will you be one of...

Make sure the bread mix is gluten-free. Most yeasts should be gluten-free, but read the label and call/email the company if you have to. It is worth it.

ARCHIVED Picked Up Some Neem, Will Let You Know How It Goes.
ShayFL replied to Pyro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I took the Neem for about 4 weeks then stopped. I have some leftover. I thought I might use them incase I ever get a stomach bug. I am glad that the Neem helped you (even if a little). I can still get some bloat too if I eat something weird (I tried hemp protein the other day and bloated up). But eating my regular normal diet now does not cause me... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Here Intolerant To Alot More Than Gluten?
ShayFL replied to OneScrewLoose's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yes, many of us have multiple intolerances. I can eat a little bit of nightshade now (chili spice and red pepper). Before I could not. As I get better, I will add more back in. -
ARCHIVED Sleep Number Bed = Toxic Mold
ShayFL replied to CarlaB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I will add that Carla put this thread in the right spot as well.....Related Disorders & Research. Consider this Richard. Auto-immune diseases are often triggered by trauma, stress, infection, etc. It is VERY POSSIBLE that one of these beds infested with TOXIC mold triggered someone's Celiac. So that new Celiac comes in here looking for help because... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results, Autoimmune Illness Questions
ShayFL replied to meg2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It was a short trial, but is suggestive of gluten issues. Could be Celiac, intolerance or allergy. You would need to stay off for a few months. Or continue to eat it like crazy and get all of the tests. -

ARCHIVED Sleep Number Bed = Toxic Mold
ShayFL replied to CarlaB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Im guessing not Carla. Yeah, I found that post pathetic. The beds should have been recalled. How lame to go surfing the net for blogs with information about their defective beds and posting in a way that says we did nothing wrong, but we will make it right. -
ARCHIVED Pregnant And Newly Diagnosed With Celiac
ShayFL replied to dcrobinett's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Make sweet potatoes your friend. They taste good. Full of nutrition and are so easy on the tummy. Same for pumpkin. Make a gluten-free pumpkin pie....yummy!! And once your little one is born dont give into temptation then either. If you breastfeed, some Mom's report that their infants get sick (failure to thrive, loose bowels, etc.) when they nursed... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results, Autoimmune Illness Questions
ShayFL replied to meg2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may discover the hard way that "cheating" doesnt make a vacation or holiday more fun....it ruins it. I dont cheat. I am not Celiac. I dont want vertigo and a migraine for Christmas. -
ARCHIVED Pregnant And Newly Diagnosed With Celiac
ShayFL replied to dcrobinett's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Please do not eat gluten. You have Celiac disease. You would be hurting yourself and no one in here can tell you if it will hurt your baby. We cannot possibly know. Why would you risk it? And, yes, miscarriage is related to Celiac. Please resist your cravings. Please. For you and your baby. Learn to make gluten-free yummies at home for... -
ARCHIVED Dr. Says There Is No Genetic Test?
ShayFL replied to CRym's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is time for a NEW DOCTOR.......Pronto!!! Before he kills you!! My 12 y.o. daughter knows more about Celiac now than that clown. If you can afford it, Enterolab and Kimball labs do genetic testing for Celiac. I used both. You dont need a doctor for them. Also, if you have been gluten-free for awhile a biopsy will likely be negative as well.... -
ARCHIVED Really Sad... Testing Update
ShayFL replied to jayhawkmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A caution on Eat Right 4 Your Type. I am A+ and supposed to eat tons of SOY, most beans and whole grain including wheat. I tried that diet and got sicker and sicker. I do not tolerate beans or grains. And soy gives me vertigo. No thanks! I do much better eating a natural whole foods diet excluding many of the things D'Adamo would have me eating. ... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free 6 Months (but Something Still Wrong)
ShayFL replied to KristaleeJane's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This thread has some good advice. Not everyone agrees on the exact same thing in this thread. But it can help you do your own research and go with what feels right for you. And GET YOUR DOCTOR TO TEST YOUR THYROID. TSH should be under 3 according to the most recent guidelines. Get a copy of your labs to make sure the lab isnt using the old ranges... -
ARCHIVED Gastritis And Gluten Intolerance
ShayFL replied to DinaB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many on here have other intolerances and true allergies to foods to boot. I do not have any IgE allergies. But I cut out a lot of foods right after I went gluten-free. I have been able to add back in some things I missed as of the last few weeks. I did a specific supplement program to speed healing as well. Google PepZin GI. Consider Biotin and SeaCure... -
ARCHIVED Isn't Baking Soda And Powder Gluten Free?
ShayFL replied to Bellamia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I always assume that any manufacturer could put gluten in their product. So......I ALWAYS READ. Even if it says gluten free, I check the ingredients. It has become habit. I dont eat hardly any processed foods anymore. So it is really just my spices, baking supplies and hemp milk I give the once over. -

ARCHIVED Need Enterolab Help - Test Was Negative? Newbie.
ShayFL replied to luciddream928's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Naturopaths are often good people who mean well and do help a lot of folks. But like anyone else, they can be wrong. Go with your intuition. It is there for a reason. -
ARCHIVED Isn't Baking Soda And Powder Gluten Free?
ShayFL replied to Bellamia's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, it is a marketing tactic. Gluten Free is becoming more main stream and people are actively looking for gluten free items. So by putting that on their product, they hope to get the sale from the manufacturers who do not label as gluten free. Eventually they will all say that. -

ARCHIVED Now They Want To Test My 11 Year Old Daughter For Chron's
ShayFL replied to bizzymomof5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
See if you can get an endoscopy (with biopsies) as well as the colonoscopy. They might not since the blood was NEG. Likely they would not test her for Celiac genes either because of this. But you can also use Enterolab. If you can afford it, get the gene testing done as well. -
ARCHIVED How Long Does Dizziness Last If It's Cc?
ShayFL replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I get CC my first reaction is vertigo. I have had vertigo for over 12 years. It has nearly disappeared gluten-free (and grain free). But if I get some, I get the vertigo. For me it only lasts a couple of days followed by a migraine. Thankfully it has only happened twice in the past 5+ months. Before gluten-free I would have migraines 2 times a... -
ARCHIVED The Worst Canker Sore Outbreak Ever
ShayFL replied to bigapplekathleen's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Nutritional deficiencies: Although a number of nutrient deficiencies can lead to canker sores, thiamine deficiency appears to be the most significant. Deficiencies of iron, lysine, vitamin B12, and folic acid also can lead to canker sores. Several studies showed that nutrient deficiencies are common among recurrent canker sore sufferers than in the general... -
ARCHIVED Help 15 Mth Old W/ Symptoms Of Celiac Drs No Help
ShayFL replied to kbalman's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A gluten-free diet can be VERY HEALTHY. Lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts & seeds (and their butters), all veggies and all fruits. Brown rice. Yogurt if he tolerates it. These foods are where REAL NUTRITION is. Kids generally love sweet potatoes which are full of nutrition.
