ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In!
ShayFL replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You did not waste your money. The results are valuable to YOU, but what I was saying is that they would likely not be valuable to your doctor. I used Enterolab and it confirmed that I needed to be gluten-free as well. And going gluten-free relieved a lot of my problems. So I trust Enterolab results. -
ARCHIVED Stopping My Vegan Diet Hurt Recovery?
ShayFL replied to wschmucks's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I made a really good friend years ago when I was vegan. She was vegan as well and believed with all her heart and soul that vegan was the healthiest way to eat. And she seemed to do o.k. vegan for a little over a year, then she got pregnant. I can still remember stopping by to drop some homemade almond milk off. I went to put it in the refridgerator and... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In!
ShayFL replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Likely your doctor will not view Enterolab as of any value at all. I was POS with Enterolab. No Celiac genes. But POS response to the diet. A POS response to the gluten-free diet IS the "gold standard" in my opinion. -
ARCHIVED Stopping My Vegan Diet Hurt Recovery?
ShayFL replied to wschmucks's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are people and research on both sides of the camp. I went vegan for health reasons as well....but found myself sicker and sicker. I became anemic. I need a small amount of meat in my diet everyday. I feel better. Healthy is whatever foods make YOU healthy. -
ARCHIVED Can't Even Enjoy Thanksgiving- Staying Home
ShayFL replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Very well said sbj. Jason, I have seen your posts for a long time now, and understandably, I can see you suffer from a form of depression. For whatever reason, you have not sought out professional help. It took me awhile too. In the meantime, I can highly recommend a book by Louise Hay. She is an amazing human being and her personal story is... -
ARCHIVED Stopping My Vegan Diet Hurt Recovery?
ShayFL replied to wschmucks's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was vegan for a few years and when a Chinese doctor told me I needed to eat red meat, I was surprised that it was NO problem at all for my body to digest a steak. None. All you can do is try it and see if it agrees with you. You could take a gluten-free digestive enzyme with it if you feel you might need help. -
ARCHIVED Can't Even Enjoy Thanksgiving- Staying Home
ShayFL replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Im going to a friend's house. There will be about 12 people there. I wont be able to eat ANYTHING there. So I will be taking my own baked chicken and veggies so I can enjoy the company of my good friends who know and love me and couldnt care less if I bring my own food. I did the same for a Halloween party and for Fourth of July. Everytime it has worked... -

Jason....have you found a good counselor yet? The times in my life when I have been in similar shoes, I found help. You dont have to do it alone. There is great comfort in having someone listen to you and offer you alternative ideas. We can only do so much in here and since after all this time and many posts you still have not found what you need in... -
ARCHIVED Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD)
ShayFL replied to AliB's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
During the first month or so of any dramatic dietary change, your poos can look and do some strange things. I wouldnt worry about it at the moment. You are still healing. It may be that you cannot even digest that butter and you see it in the loo. ***I have been making my RAW goat yogurt and loving it! No problems. I have made 2 batches with an organic... -

ARCHIVED Gluten-free And Frustrated
ShayFL replied to caek-is-a-lie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I understand wanting an official Dx. But sadly, for many of us, that never comes. So you have to move on and keep on gluten-free because you know in your heart and body that is the answer. You get sick when you eat gluten. Otherwise, you will need to eat gluten for a good 3 months and lots of it to get a biopsy. And it is true, even then, there are... -
Once I had to wear a peachy/orange drop waist giganic bow bridesmades dress. I looked like a frilly pumpkin. It was hideous. I hated the dress, but enjoyed the wedding. It was for them and not for me. It isnt easy to be selfless, but it can be rewarding. I find that if I can manage to change my perspective on things and be positive, then it isnt so...

ARCHIVED New To This, Have Some Questions
ShayFL replied to chrisd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Unfortunately for a "gold standard" Dx, he will need to be eating gluten, get blood work and then a biopsy of his intestines. And the sad thing is that 1 month might not be long enough to get a positive. Add to that, there are naturally a lot of false negatives for children under the age of 6. It is a hard decision for you to make for sure. I feel for... -
ARCHIVED Help Interpreting Thyroid Numbers
ShayFL replied to glutenfreeinchicago's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My Mom NEVER showed antibodies to her thyroid for years, but when they removed her thyroid due to cancer, they Dx Hashimotos because her thyroid was almost completely eaten away. Why no antibodies for all of those years? Our family doesnt produce much IgA and the thyroid antibody tests are IgA mediated. To confuse matters more antibodies can be IgG and... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Genetic Test Results
ShayFL replied to wahmmy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Nora is right. There are dx'd Celiacs with this genetic makeup. What are your husbands genes? Since he is dx'd Celiac, if he doesnt have the 2 U.S. recognized Celiac genes, then it is a whole new ballgame for your children. -

ARCHIVED My Results
ShayFL replied to Trachellium's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did they test your TOTAL IgA? Without that, the IgA results are meaningless. If you are deficient, then the IgA cant Dx you, but the IgG can. -
ARCHIVED My Gi Says I Am Borderline...
ShayFL replied to teacherwheart's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Most in here will tell you there is no such thing as "borderline". You either do or you dont. It is like you cant be borderline pregnant. If it were me and I had a POS bloodwork and my child has been Dx with Celiac, then I would go gluten-free for life myself. First, it will be so much easier to have a gluten-free home. Both of you eating gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Hla-dq Results Interpretation
ShayFL replied to clr18287's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My NEGATIVE labs were with LabCorp as well. But I had a POSITIVE response to the diet. You wont know if you are "free" unless you try the diet to see if your symptoms improve. -
ARCHIVED Family History Mystery
ShayFL replied to rhiwoman's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, it is a BIG commitment, but you will not know if you can get well unless you go 100% gluten-free. I dont have Celiac genes. I had negative bloodwork. Refused biopsy. But POSITIVE response to the diet. I will never look back. -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed- How To Explain It To People
ShayFL replied to Trachellium's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A lot of peeps dont even know what "gluten" is. So be prepared. I now just say gluten intolerant. It sums it up either way. I cannot eat gluten. -
ARCHIVED Help Interpreting Thyroid Numbers
ShayFL replied to glutenfreeinchicago's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Confused, get thee to a doctor that specializes in thyroid and endocrine disorders ASAP!! Did your ND Dx Hyperthyroid based on your TSH alone? I have never seen A T3 and T4 so far in the toilet. Having extremely low T4 and T3 with a low TSH indicates PITUITARY dysfunction. Your pituitary is unable to release TSH, and therefore, unable to get your... -
ARCHIVED Help Interpreting Thyroid Numbers
ShayFL replied to glutenfreeinchicago's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
www.stopthethyroidmadness.com According to the new TSH ranges anything over 3 is hypothyroid. This isnt due to "many" interpretations. It was decided by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist. You are hypothyroid. I was nearly dead with a TSH of 2.8. Armour saved my life!!
