ARCHIVED Holiday Work Party..uggghhh!
ShayFL replied to givenupgluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I personally always dreaded company parties. But always felt obligated to go. At my age now, if I had a company party now, I would just skip it. But it sounds like you really want to go. And that is good. What time will they be eating? Can you arrive fashionably late? And then just enjoy the fun (eat before you go). Or I would go with eat... -

Right Jenny! Kikkomans has wheat in it and it tested NEG. Neither you are I are going to eat Kikkomans soy sauce because it clearly states it has wheat regardless of the Elisa test. That is why the NEG list doesnt interest me either. I cannot trust a NEG with the Elisa test because of my results. However, based on my tests, a POS can be trusted because... -

Personally, I could only feel comfortable posting a POS list. No one would get hurt. People would avoid those foods. It would absolutely kill me if I posted a NEG list and people trusted it and even 1 person got sick based on my list. No way could I do that. No way. -
ARCHIVED Need Help Diagnosing Celiac
ShayFL replied to Konaa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you want Celiac blood tests, you MUST keep eating gluten. 2 weeks even can cause a false NEG. So you need to eat plenty of gluten for a few months and then test. It is not unusual for Celiacs to feel worse for a few weeks as the body heals. Think of a broken toe. It will heal, but it will be sore for awhile until it gets to a certain healing point... -

ARCHIVED Dairy Free Cassava Cake?
ShayFL replied to Pyro's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I looked at that recipe and my blood sugar shot up....LOL How are you Pyro? Havnt seen you around in awhile? I would use more of the coconut cream with coconut milk mixed in until "sweetened condensed milk" consistency. You might need more sweetener though. You could add honey to the coconut cream/milk mixture. Make sure the liquids are equal to... -
ARCHIVED New Here - Debating Going Gluten-free - Opinions Anyone?
ShayFL replied to angelschick's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A person can have both Hashi's and Graves disease at the same time. Your symptoms are a little of both. Have they tested you for BOTH thyroid antibodies? How are they treating your Hashi's? Hashi's is different than other types of hypothyroid. The goal is to suppress the TSH to stop the attack and to eliminate symptoms. Sadly many doctors just get... -

ARCHIVED Should I Postpone Kindergarten For My Small celiac disease Child?
ShayFL replied to jesslynn555's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I personally would go ahead and enroll him. I started K at 4 and I was the smallest in the class for many years. I am not a big person now either. My size was never an issue. But I will say that being "the smartest in the class" was actually a negative for me. It was especially hard for me when teachers made a fuss over me being the only one in the class... -
ARCHIVED Excess Stomach Acid
ShayFL replied to raen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sadly, if the doctors have not Dx Celiac, there is no reason that legally she cannot feed him gluten. Sorry you are having to deal with this. Celiac usually causes "low stomach" acid. But could cause the reverse. What most people call acid indigestion is usually a sign of "too little" stomach acid. That is why TUMS just makes it worse over time. -
Basically when he told her all about me and she disapproved he just pretended I didnt exist (to her). I do not know what he was thinking. Like we would get married and never tell her? Weird indeed. This is my point. What is your BF thinking? Sometimes we just dont know.....and it is up to you to confront and find out. You are worth it!!

Mine were slightly elevated prior to gluten-free and have returned to normal.

I have nothing to add other than I tested NEG on bloods, refused biopsy, did Enterolab genetics and discovered I have 2 gluten intolerance genes. Went on the gluten-free diet and have never looked back. I will never eat it again. Gone are the migraines and dizziness. Gone!! You do not need a doctor's permission to go on the diet. -

ShayFL replied to High-Tech Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Their genetic testing is accurate. -
I see RED FLAGS all over your post. I agree. You deserve better. 2 years is a decent commitment to someone. If you continue I would assume that you would might want children at some point. If your baby has Celiac (it is genetic), think how your child will feel that he/she cannot go over to Grandma's. OR picture how you will feel if your child is allowed...

I have nothing against Mike personally. I do not even know him. I personally just dont feel comfortable basing my own decisions on the voice of one person who has focused most of his energy in here on this ELISA test. That is just me and I use my own personal intuition. If you feel comfortable, then by all means, get him to list his NEG list. Use it... -

ShayFL replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
And it is not gender specific either. I have known the converse to be true as well. I personally dated a guy for nearly a year who was in Law School. I fell in love with him. Things went well for that time until I realized I was spending some 50.00 more a week on groceries. That my electric bills had went up. That he always seemed to have not brought... -

Let me say again: useless to me. I would not buy them again. They are too expensive. They are completely impractical. TO ME. WASTE OF MONEY. Please anyone else who can afford it do your own testing. Post your results here if you like. These test strips DID NOT prove valid or useful to me personally. I have a Phd in Nutrition, but I certainly...
