  1. At first I worried about my family too. But it has actually turned out to be a really great thing for us!! Ive heard things like: After eating some teff/almond butter cookies "Mom these are so good. I hope you are always gluten free." And: "Mom, I know why most kids dont like vegetables. They just never had vegetables cooked by you." ...
  2. I can i.d. with some of what you are saying. I was always chubby through HS and into my mid 20's. Lots of friends (who were also chubby). Then after I had my daughter and lost a ton of weight (little did I know I was hyperthyroid at the time), friends started dropping. I never regained the weight and find now that all my friends are thin like me. It...
  3. That's crap....her slipping the gluten in your food. It would be like me thinking my Mom's thyroid problems were all in her head and replacing some of her meds with sugar pills. Id be pissed too.
  4. I went through this. Just look at my signature. But I am getting used to it and it has become easier. Add that I just did the Lame Advertisement and I cannot eat Strawberries, Broccoli, Pears, Pine Nuts or Cucumbers for at least 3 - 6 months. But our world is abundant and there are lots of food choices. I find that I can always eat. And I eat quite...
  5. Welcome! Here is a great site that can help you a lot. You will want to stick with lower glycemic foods. Eat mostly from the left column. Chana Dal isnt listed, but it an excellent gluten-free food for diabetics. Open Original Shared Link Omitting any that are (wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats) of course.
  6. What were your symptoms before going gluten-free? Neurological? Basic advice is to drink LOTS of water. I mean 8 - 10 glasses a day to "flush" the toxins out. Gluten/Gliadin are toxins to Celiacs. I find that Magnesium can help relax the muscles and ease the pain. I also use ice packs. And B2 200 mg a day has helped me too. But I never had one last...
  7. I am taking Solgar's Gentle Iron. It did help get my levels up from 11 to 22 after a few months of taking only 2 pills a day (50 mg iron). But I stopped taking them. I am now taking them again because my last lab said Ferritin 19....so it dropped. This time I am going to shoot for 100 - 150 mg a day and retest in 2 months. Some people take 180 a day...

  10. And most good airlines will accommodate you. Request a "gluten free" meal. But have your own just in case.
  11. I just flew two months ago with all sorts of food in my back pack. It went through the x-ray and they didnt say a word. They did, however, make me toss my hair gel. The crime: it was 4.5 ounces and the limit is 3 oz. Oh brother!! The dont allow liquid. So you will have to "buy" water once on the other side of security. But this is no big deal. ...
  12. Bravo!! Here's wishing you a successful outcome and all of your fears were for naught.
  13. And you say that you think you "might lose it" with them. This is the absolute worst thing that can happen in this situation. There is nothing more humiliating to someone than to be punished/yelled at/etc. by someone for something they knew nothing about. If you lose it with them, then you send a clear message to your boss and your colleagues. And t isnt...
  14. It seems strange, but you actually react more violently when you clear your system of an irritant (i.e. gluten) when you get even small amounts of it. Symptoms are generally not as bad when you get a steady dose of it. It is weird, but true. Our bodies do unusual things. At least you "know" when it happens and you can rest assured you will not "cheat...
  15. I guess I have just gotten over my fears of "what will they think". Maybe Im just getting older. Maybe I have evolved. But I honestly do not give a rats behind what anyone thinks of me except me. I take my own food. And they can deal. If they want an explanation, I will give it. Jason....many communities offer classes on "assertiveness". They...
  16. I was a sickly child and thin. But plumped up in HS. Had a lot of fatigue. But that went away over time. My trigger was the birth of my daughter 12 years ago. Never the same since. And it is exactly the reason I only have ONE child. I wanted two.
  17. You could also test with HCL tablets. Take 1 with a protein meal and see if you feel better or no response at all. If you feel better, you can take them for while until your body readjusts. If you get no response, next meal take 2. You will know you have taken too much if your stomach burns a bit and you taste acid. Simply drink some baking soda (1 tsp...
  18. From what I have read in these groups, you are lucky they caught it at all. The bad taste could be something unrelated to Celiac. You could have an overly acidic body. The way to remedy this is to eat lots off fresh fruits and veggies (mostly raw) and cut down on too many meats, coffee and definately sugars. You can also supplement with Ph drops in...
  19. Raspberries are one of the most contaminated foods (chemicals of all kinds - fungicides - pesticides). I will ONLY eat organic. They are THAT BAD!! These are a list of the 20 most contaminated: 1. Peaches 2. Apples 3. Sweet Bell Peppers 4. Celery 5. Nectarines 6. Strawberries 7. Cherries 8. Pears 9. Grapes (Imported...
  20. This made me chuckle....."food aggression"....I think of dogs, but people have it to. I know I did for years!! Growing up with 4 siblings, 1 was an older brother and 1 a few years younger. They ate EVERYTHING in the house. You had to fight for yummies. I hid/hoarded food. When I got some money, I bought food!! Which I would then hide. I can still...
  21. I am so happy for you Rachel. We all have a story. I have no way of knowing what symptoms throughout my life were connected to what. Alcoholic father who committed suicide when I was 10. And a product of abuse (mental, physical and sexual), there is no question that trauma also played a roll in my life. But there were certainly other factors as...
  22. Ive had this issue for years....long before gluten free. I have tried so many diets to find relief of symptoms over the years. Vegan, Vegetarian, Raw Foodist, eliminated this that and the other. It is just my normal way to be. I always carry a snack with me everywhere I go. This is also a carry over from hypoglycemia (which I do not have anymore...
  23. My husband was totally smitten with me whilst dating. I had no doubt that if I had showed up at the restaurant with my own little cooler of food, that I would still be married to him. And he confirmed this.
  24. Yes it can be. Your body's immune system may be able to keep it at bay sometimes, but then it comes back. You really need to get it checked ASAP!!! If it goes to the kidneys it can be quite serious. I use a daily dose of D-Mannose and I NEVER get them anymore.
  25. I wonder if they could break down the lactose in milk and then make it into a powder? I dont see why not. I dont do dairy at all. So switch to almond meal would get my vote!!
