  1. Plant a small garden this year. Expand next year. Plant those things that are easy to grow or produce alot. You can freeze zucchini and tomatoes, etc. Save seeds to grow for next year. Even if you only have room for cucumbers. A pkg. for a dollar will produce more than the dollar for the seed. You can hardly buy 2 cukes for a dollar. In the winter make zucchini...
  2. Here is a thread on it and you could google more: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=18189
  3. I thought my dd had it 2 yrs ago. The doc said to go off gulten. He gave her complex B vitamins. Pain cleared up soon after. She had heavy blood loss and tremendous cramping. Now things are fairly normal except she doesn't eat many, if any, vegetables nor take vitamins At age 21 she wont listen until she has a problem. She keeps catching a cold so I gave...
  4. This subject is why I took my dd to the doc and found out she is gluten intolerant. He said if its bright red not to worry but monitor and if if its dark or looks like coffee grounds then it could be serious. My dd has blood a couple of times a year and seems to come on when she is highly stressed. Keep track of what you eat or do and the amount and frequency...
  5. Rub it in...they are good too! Sorry
  6. Karina's recipe and its amazing: Open Original Shared Link I followed the recipe exactly except used both potato and cornstarch. It takes about 3 medium oranges. Save some juice for the frosting. Oh and I used the agave nectar and light olive oil. Try them you'll love them!
  7. Same here, I just tried it for the first time and prefer Carol Fensters recipe much better.
  8. Here is a recipe you could try for a bread replacement. I made it once w/o egg and it was a little more dense and didn't rise as much but still good. Quickie Flaxmeal Skillet Bread Open Original Shared Link for comments: Open Original Shared Link or Open Original Shared Link You will need to use an egg replacement and a buttermilk. For that you...
  9. I found a wrap recipe from Karina so its gotta be good! Open Original Shared Link (let us know if you try it...plz)
  10. I just bumped into this new recipe from Karina: Open Original Shared Link I LOVE chocolate and can't wait to try this recipe...but...it will have to wait until I visit my gluten-free/vegan dd p.s. I have read that her buckwheat choc chip cookies are very good but I still haven't tried them. p.s.s. I just discovered her wrap recipe that looks...
  11. Same here! We came home from our monthly shopping last night. Hubby bought a movie and asked if I wanted to watch it. I said save it until the Olympics are over and there is nothing else to watch...he went to bed.
  12. The Today Show just showed a chocolate truffle made without flour...dark choc and nuts(gooey warm middle)...its an Olympic highlite in the food "event". "We" want that recipe! Maybe Elanas pantry has it...hm...
  13. Ditto Karina, here are a few of her recipes that should work for you: Open Original Shared Link She lists lots of ways to sub ingredients for this recipe. I divide dough into 2 8x8" pans sometimes, blending in different add-ins like raisins, craisins, chopped dates, nuts, pumpkin seeds, etc. Use Ener G Egg replacer for the eggs. Buckwheat flour for the...
  14. Ya he is on right now! So fast!
  15. So what is your favorite winter Olympic event? Mine is women's figure skating. So elegant!
  16. Ditto what ryebaby said. I think you should be tested, it runs in families.
  17. I made chocolate cupcakes today. Here is the recipe: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.php?showtopic=55428 It made 12 cupcakes. The middles didn't rise like gluten cupcakes do (hardly noticeable) but a little extra frosting is all you need. Sometimes gluten-free baking is tricky especially if you don't have eggs. I don't know how well it will...
  18. Here is a link with lots of baking tips, scroll to the gums section: Open Original Shared Link
  19. How about making a batch or 2 of muffins. Wrap them individually then freeze. Grab and go for a fast item to add to all those other great ideas everyone posted. You could make a basic muffin but stir in a tablespoon of goodies into each cup to make them different. Chocolate chip, nuts, berries, raisins, etc..... Twelve muffins could last 2 weeks. Be sure...
  20. My dd didn't have all that tummy pain. When she started college she began to have extremely painful periods, lots of blood loss, dizzy, fatigue, etc. Growing up her legs would hurt. I took her to the doc b/c she had blood in her stools occasionally. The doc didn't test her for celiac and it doesn't run in our family. He said no gluten, gave her complex B...
  21. Or crisped rice cereal...I would do a mixture of several kinds. Quinoa and cereal. You could use gluten-free oats but pulse them in a blender a few seconds so they are not so chewy.
  22. LOL "to each his own" as the saying goes. I rinse in hot water to rinse off the slime and put the lid on to keep it hot until I add sauce. For pasta salad I rinse in cold to cool it faster.
  23. I love those kinds of casseroles (except for olives), looks great! I like green onions and chopped tomatoes in place of olives. Thought I might add for the newbies...you could use rice lasagna if you can't have corn. My dh doesn't like "spicy" food so I don't make mexican type things anymore We just have low spice tacos/nachos instead. I am drooling over...
  24. Here is a healthy recipe for wraps. I pressed them out onto inverted cake pans. Golden flax makes them lighter in color. Open Original Shared Link The recipe makes 2 but I made more the same day b/c they were so good. You can do lots of creative subbing with this recipe.
