ARCHIVED Red Lobster Gluten Free Items
cassP replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
i only deep fried at home once- tried to make my own onion rings with rice flour. i didnt pay attention to how the crumbs mess with everything... but thanks for explaining. i dont have gluten reactions to "gluten free" treats- but ive had an allergic reaction to one of Kinninnick's mixes.. and i generally feel FAT if i eat sugar & carbs. i am... -
i DID in fact read somewhere a few years ago- that some Celiacs can lose some of the fatty foot padding under the feet. i totally had this... completely gone now

ARCHIVED Bloating!
cassP replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
skylark: thanks! interesting blog step: my gene test was only 150$ but ya- its not necessary, just interesting... not as important as the blood test or diet. diet may even be MORE evidential- due to common false negative tests. -
ARCHIVED Amaranth?
cassP replied to GirlScout's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
amaranth is gluten free and it is a grain that is beneficial to the colon my problem was finding an amaranth cereal that didnt have a gluten product in it... and also- im not too great with corn but ya- amaranth is a really good thing -
ARCHIVED Red Lobster Gluten Free Items
cassP replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
i do know that it can damage us even if we dont feel a reaction... i was just curious because i see people on here discuss using different collanders & cooking tools because of CC... and i dont know- maybe i have additional reactions to other carbs... but im WONDERING if there's more gluten in "gluten free" flours & treats than in cross contamination... -

ARCHIVED Experiment Or Not
cassP replied to scarlett77's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
ok, so- im not a super sensitive celiac- i do NOT eat McD's fries because i know they contain gluten.. but in the past, i didnt neccesarily have a reaction to them, the way i do from a piece of bread. also- be aware that some individuals with celiac or gluten intolerance dont express ANY gut symptoms. i read only 1 in 6 Celiacs have gut issues. AND... -
ARCHIVED Red Lobster Gluten Free Items
cassP replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
if we're not sensitive to cross contamination- is it ok? or are we still damaging our villi?? AND- ya- it was nice to see when i went to PeiWei that they are educated & serious, and use a brand new fryer for gluten free orders -
ARCHIVED Red Lobster Gluten Free Items
cassP replied to Ahorsesoul's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
ya- buffalo wings could totally be fine- it just depends on how each place makes it- but it can be done. some blue cheese is made with wheat, and some is not. i hope this list is accurate- if so,im a very verry happy girl... and Red Lobster's 1000 island has always been my favorite!!! -
ARCHIVED Not A Gluten Free ? But Maybe Someone Can Help?
cassP replied to glutenfreeinminnesota's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
DITTO- as long as he reacts well to meats- then a Paleo type diet can be really good for him!!! and for you obviously. carbs and sugars can lead to Insulin Resistance in many people- so its def. worth a try for him! -
ARCHIVED Experiment Or Not
cassP replied to scarlett77's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
i dont think its a good idea- 1st you already know he has celiac, giving him any gluten is hurting him. PLUS 2nd- i and maybe many other celiacs could tell you- that our reactions to gluten are not always the same reaction. in the past my reaction to gluten could be "rocks in my stomach" or anxiety, or post nasal drip, or constipation. the last time i had... -
yay for you, but i think you should test out the other nightshades- i dont have a problem with tomatoes, but sometimes peppers bother me... but then again, that could be the fructans... yum, love my tomato sauce

ARCHIVED Could My Symptoms Be Celiac?
cassP replied to vampire-panda's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
DITTO. stay on the gluten & tell your doc u want a complete celiac blood panel. no reason to just be guessing- its just a blood test- your results could give you all the answers you need! -
ARCHIVED Bloating!
cassP replied to CarolinaKip's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
do you know what your DQ genes are??? im starting to wonder if Celiac's degree of sensitivity can be related to what their genes are... OR maybe its only related to amount of damage in the gut.??? it's all so interesting to me. before i went "gluten lite & mostly carb free" a decade ago- i DID get to the point where i was having the "D" every day. but... -
they're sugars that are hard for many to digest. they give me horrible bloating & gas... also all those fake sugars in diabetic foods- like malitol no, they're not gluten i think sorbitol is a corn by product?? idk
-
also... i thought it was cool, that my GI this week told me that there's a wealth of information for me in the online community- and i told him "i know- ive learned a lot"

ARCHIVED New Here... Would Love Some Help Understanding My Bloodwork
cassP replied to Gingi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
i understand, i toyed around with gluten for years because i never got an official dx.... but i had too many symptoms, and some i'd rather not gross you out with. after i got my gene test back- i was like, ok cassie- you'd have to be stupid to just assume that you can eat gluten for the rest of your life. your canker sores also suggest celiac or gluten... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Positive - Blood Tests Negative
cassP replied to Scatabrain's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
sounds like you have a nice doc, and not a dismissive one. i would suggest you ask for a paper copy of your tests. at least all your blood tests. you might even call your doc's office and request copies mailed to you, so you can study it before your visit. i did this- and by the time i saw my Gi this week- i knew everything about my tests- and had... -
ARCHIVED Genetic Testing
cassP replied to missy'smom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
you should do it for sure- it's for your family's puzzle and health. it probably won't affect your insurance. a Celiax DX MIGHT raise your rates??? but again, on a gluten free diet- most of us go back to being regular people with no heightened risks. according to my Gi and most docs-> they dont neccesarily DX you on your genes alone, so i dont think it... -
ARCHIVED The What's What On L-Glutamine
cassP replied to fakename's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
everything above poster said is correct- its an amino acid an helps repair your muscles. but it also helps repair your intestines. an alternative doc told my mom to take it at night (preferably the powder mixed with water & a good portion)- and then it's supposed to coat & heal the intestines at night. i have done this before. doing this OR eating... -
ARCHIVED New Here... Would Love Some Help Understanding My Bloodwork
cassP replied to Gingi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
14 is NOT a negative or a normal for your Ttg. according to my PCP & GI's ranges- anything about 10 is a positive. and a >4- <10 is a weak positive. your Iga Serum should be a number within a range- as long as your Iga is between the range- it just means your immune system is normal and your blood panel can be more accurate. there's other tests...
