  1. I think the one you really want to watch is TtG tissue transglutaminase. It's the most specific. I do know IgA is more involved with mucosal tissues, which is what the gut is made of. I would suggest you scrutinize your diet and get the TtG test.
  2. I haven't paid a lot of attention to soy oils. I heard a radio show about peanut allergies and the speaker said that the protein content of peanut oil is so low that most peanut allergic people can consume it with no reaction. I made the leap that soybean oils are similarly processed. I don't *think* it bothers me, but frankly, I feel bad so sporadically...
  3. People answer all over the board on this topic... Some talk about the necessity of replacing "everything". I personally did not replace anything and had/have no problems.
  4. I've eaten quinoa a few times and find it effects me cognitively. It makes me feel sort of "stoned".
  5. I believe this is generally true for IgG mediated allergies, which is what York tests you for. Gluten sensitivity is predominately IgA mediated. There is also the genetics issue. If you try this, your anatomy may well tell you loud and clear how successful you are. If you are asymptomatic, you won't get the message and may cause yourself a lot of trouble...
  6. Regarding yeast... yeast is in the production of any alcoholic product. Only distilled spirits are without yeast as the yeast does not survive the distillation process. All beer, wine, cider, perry and mead contain some amount of yeast. Filtering does not remove all of it and only large commercially brewed beers are generally filtered (e.g. Bud).
  7. Look for a local cider. Some vinyards produce ciders as well. They are much better than the commercial ones, unless you like overly sweet, fizzy drinks. Another option, if you can find it is perry. It's like cider, only made from pears. I've also tried mead, which is made from honey. Very different. The older the better.
  8. I can tolerate a little gluten-free soy sauce like to eat sushi or Chinese. If I drink soy milk it bothers me, but not my gut. It makes me goofy, itchy and causes constipation. Anyone else have this experience?
  9. The success of the biopsy varies with the amount of damage. The more severely damaged, the more likely the biopsy will detect celiac. Symptoms on the other hand do not necessarily vary with damage. Some people show extreme symptoms with little or no detectable damage under biopsy. I say approach from the symptom side - if he stops eating gluten and gets...
  10. Ed, I'll give you the straight poop... It sounds like your stool is becoming more normal. You're making progress. For asymptomatic people, a change in stool color can indicate when you have poisoned yourself.
  11. In public situations I typically don't eat unless something is obviously safe. It's too easy to get poisoned by some well-intentioned caterer server. I try not to leave the house hungry or let my stomach do my thinking for me.
  12. jaycee30, I too did the York test and came out with milk, beef, carrot, potato, lettuce, soy bean, chilli pepper, garlic, vanilla and yeast on my avoid list. On my rotate list I have gliadin, wheat, oat, egg white, egg yolk, asparagus, lime and mustard mix (cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and brocolli). If you aren't aware, York is now recommending...
  13. Finlay, You sound just like me except for the twitching. I suggest you go gluten-free for 1 month and the answer will be obvious. You should see the majority of the bowel problems disapate.
  14. Beware of costs. If your doctor wants to send a biopsy to a lab, be sure to inquire about the cost. My doc sent my biopsy to the Utah and I got a bill for about $600.
  15. I like Bob Evans. I often get the fried mush with eggs, bacon, etc. Closest thing to bread with breakfast I've discovered. I also go to Cracker Barrel. You can get fried potatos (not the potato cassarole), eggs, pork chops and pinto beans.
  16. Recently, I washed dishes at a church function using one of those commercial stainless steel scrubbing pads. The pad was abrasive and quite scratchy on my hands. That night, my palms itched like nothing I have ever experienced. If itchy palms means coming into money, I'd be a billionare. I believe the gluten in the water got into my skin through my scratched...
  17. I've discovered that my carb cravings, which were very intense, are gone since I gave up dairy. York testing revealed I produce antibodies to milk so I gave them up and the cravings went away.
  18. Be careful about adding a lot of exotic foods to your diet. They can cause you discomfort and you could perhaps have food reactions to them, too.
  19. As I understand the concept, it's based upon anthropological evidence. I wonder what happens when different blood types bear offspring. I would suspect the genes get all mixed up - regardless of the resulting blood type. That might explain why some people are allergic to large spectrums of foods.
  20. cdevane, They told me it is unnecessary to consume foods for which they test.
  21. The Bette Hagman's Yellow Cake works perfectly everytime for me. You can add different flavorings: vanilla, orange, almond, etc. to change the flavor. It's a nice moist cake that stays fresh about three days.
  22. The absence of exhaustive studies proving the stool test method does not make the method invalid, just unproven within the criteria of modern medicine. Nor does it prove the method wrong. The test and method seems to work well for many people who report on this board. The lack of negative reports on this board doesn't mean there aren't any. Dr. Fine has...
  23. My experience is that it is too hard to stop everything at once. I've a list of about 12 foods I must drop. I'm getting used to living without one before going to the other.
  24. Some are, some aren't. Coleman's english prepared hot mustard contains wheat. Their powdered mustard does not. You will sometimes see "mustard flour" which is flour made from mustard seed and thus gluten-free. You have to read the labels.
  25. The rice breads taste their best when toasted.
